The previous Enshrouded update already brought major tweaks to the combat system, but these are being revisited and expanded for the full 1.0 release. A new dev blog finally sheds light on what’s coming. The focus is primarily on the mage, spells, and staves—one of the game’s many combat styles. According to the developers, the mage is getting a major upgrade, which many players will welcome. At the same time, several improvements for archers were announced, along with a few other changes arriving on October 15. We’ve summed up the news for you and what to expect!

Enshrouded 1.0 update: Mage combat and spells reworked

Enshrouded 1.0 update for mages with reworked combat and new spells

The upcoming mage changes are likely the biggest adjustments in the full release. In general, the distribution of all spells is being rebalanced so there are no big gaps between upgrades. Both mana costs and cast times are being adjusted as well. Enemy weaknesses are also being reworked. In total there will be 22 spells that function as endless spells you can cast without ammunition. Like weapons and armor, you’ll be able to upgrade them with new perks.

Playing a mage in Enshrouded is one of many viable options. You can attack directly and also serve as support. That especially shines in multiplayer, where you can support other players in combat. Nine new Enshrouded spells: Elemental, totems, and necromancy

Nine new spells in Enshrouded 1.0: elemental spells, totems, and necromancy

The headline additions are the nine spells joining the game. They cover a wide range of combat techniques, from elemental magic to necromancy. When and how you unlock them isn’t confirmed yet—likely on purpose, as they’re meant to slot smoothly into the existing game.

These nine brand-new spells arrive with the full release of Enshrouded:

  • Mana Drain: Steals a set amount of mana from an enemy.
  • Entangle: Traps enemies in a knot of roots, leaving them briefly unable to act.
  • Flame Pillars: Fire-based AoE attack.
  • Blizzard: Ice-based AoE attack.
  • Ball Lightning: Lightning-based AoE attack.
  • Summon Fire Totem: Summons a totem that attacks with fire.
  • Summon Ice Totem: Summons a totem that attacks with ice.
  • Summon Shock Totem: Summons a totem that attacks with lightning.
  • Summon Skeletons: Summons a number of skeletons to fight by your side.

Both totems and necromancy are getting new skills that increase the number of these summons.

Enshrouded staves and wands: New moves, skills, and target locking

Enshrouded staves in the 1.0 update: new moves, skills, and improved target locking

Small wands are becoming more agile in the full version of Enshrouded. Like melee weapons, they are getting a heavy attack that can pierce multiple enemies. The heavy attack can also interrupt attacks from weaker foes, making it a versatile tool.

Two new skills also improve the movement patterns of your character when using a wand:

  • Wand Aerial Attack: Perform an AoE attack directly from the air.
  • Wand Dodge Attack: Trigger an attack immediately after dodging. Feels smoother and more precise than before.

Overall, target locking with the wand is being improved so you can consistently hit the right foe. After the update, you’ll find new settings to adjust various parameters per weapon type.

Switching between wands and staves will also be faster. A new skill, “Blast and Cast,” increases your staff’s damage by 50 percent for 10 seconds after you land a critical hit with the wand.

Enshrouded 1.0 ranged combat: New arrows and skills for archers

Enshrouded archer in the 1.0 update: new infinite arrows and ranged skills

Archers have also been a bit neglected, so they’ll receive a few new abilities with version 1.0. These fit well into the existing skill tree and should make ranged combat more exciting.

The three new archer skills:

  • Puncture: Increases piercing damage at range.
  • Barrage: Damage dealt with a bow has a chance to repair the bow.
  • Survival Instinct: Defeating Shroud enemies with a bow or daggers restores several seconds to the Shroud timer.

In addition, all infinite arrows will now have upgrade paths, just like armor and weapons—and later spells. There will also be new infinite arrows dealing fire, shock, and bone damage. Until now, only infinite Frost Arrows existed, which was quite limiting.

For all mouse and keyboard players who struggle with aiming, there’s help on the way: aim assist can now be enabled for mouse and keyboard as well, not just controllers.

Enshrouded 1.0 changes: Level cap, movement, and enemy variants

Additional Enshrouded 1.0 changes: higher level cap, improved movement, and new enemy variants

Finally, a few other changes were announced that we don’t want to skip. They’ll expand the full game and add more variety to the gameplay.

  • Skill tree adjustments: Thanks to community feedback, several skills in the tree are being tweaked, moved, buffed, or made more cost-efficient.
  • New max level: The level cap is raised to 50 for players and 55 for some gear, primarily due to the new biome.
  • Player movement improvements: New animations, bug fixes, and more realistic character movement.
  • Variants for all enemy types: Every enemy faction is getting a set of new variants.
  • Skill tree reset: Due to the changes, you’ll need to reassign your points—hopefully for the last time, according to the developers.

Conclusion on the Enshrouded 1.0 release: Mage upgrade and ranged additions

These upcoming changes sound very promising. The Forging the Path update already fine-tuned combat, skills, and weapons, but most of that focused on melee weapons. With the full release, the mage in particular is getting a substantial and impressive upgrade. New spells, new movement options, and several new skills should come together as a strong package. Archers are also receiving a few sensible improvements. We’ll likely learn more by October 15, when Enshrouded’s full version finally launches.
