The time has finally come: the German survival-adventure Enshrouded is leaving Early Access! With a major 1.0 update, a new region has been added, many systems have been improved, and Embervale’s story is concluded. Whether you’re a veteran or a newcomer, Enshrouded brings exciting surprises that might make it well worth starting fresh. Today we’ll look at the biggest changes; in follow-up articles, we’ll dive deeper and examine what these changes mean in detail. This update is worthy of a full release and contains far more than you might expect at first glance.

Enshrouded 1.0: Combat improvements and magic update

Enshrouded 1.0 magic update and improved combat system in battle against enemies

In a game like Enshrouded, combat is crucial. Most classes already received a major facelift with Update 8, but mages had been left without real improvements. That has now changed.

We’ve already discussed most of these changes in detail. If you want to catch up: (Enshrouded 1.0: Mage & Ranged Combat Update with New Spells) .

Fundamentally, nine new spells have been added, giving you more freedom. You can use them in their unlimited version and even upgrade them. The latter also applies to arrows, giving archers much more choice. Upgrades work like they do for armor and melee weapons and unlock powerful bonuses. Ask the right survivor for help.

The moveset for small wands has also received a major overhaul. Thanks to new skills, you can now be much more mobile with them. You can jump while attacking and also use heavy attacks. Targeting has been significantly improved as well, letting you aim more precisely.

For everyone, the max level has been raised to 50, and your gear can even go up to level 55. Combined with the new region, that opens up even more possibilities. If you want to experience Enshrouded from start to finish, you can now rent an Enshrouded server and explore Embervale together with friends.

There are further combat tweaks, too. For example, all animations have been reworked; they feel noticeably faster, and your character appears less stiff. To keep combat fresh, 14 new enemy types and a whole range of new sub-factions have been added. That applies to both new and existing monsters.

Enshrouded map expansion: Cinder’s Cradle, floating islands, and lava fields

Before the full release, Enshrouded’s map was incomplete; now you can explore Embervale from top to bottom. In the northwest awaits Cinder’s Cradle, a volcanic region full of pitfalls and traps. Amidst it, you’ll find clues to a forgotten civilization that was far more advanced. Here you’ll primarily fight robots and mechanical foes, a surprising twist compared to classic fantasy elements. Many new building pieces fall under Art Deco and Steampunk, with stylish blocks and decorations.

You really should visit Cinder’s Cradle only at the very end, as you’ll need your full gear here. Bring your grappling hook and practice your jumps—the area can be demanding. We won’t spoil everything so you still have plenty to discover.

Keep an eye out for a new survivor, as she advances the story. Her questline lets you revisit all six previous regions and find large dungeons there. Once that’s done, the sky opens up to you with floating islands.

The old regions are worth revisiting, too. They’ve been expanded with new sections, especially along the edge of the map, which now extends further. New secrets await there—especially useful for new saves. There are also two new Hollow Halls, finally covering Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin.

Enshrouded story finale: fully voiced dialogues and documents

The full release of Enshrouded brings a conclusion to the story that accompanies your adventure. You no longer have to read everything yourself, as the documents and your survivors’ dialogues are fully voiced. You can listen to the voices in German, English, or Mandarin.

All documents are bundled into a playlist that can keep playing in the background. It pauses during combat and automatically starts the next document if you want to listen to several in a row. It’s a strong system we’d love to see in other games as well.

Enshrouded Sparkwork system: automation and logic for building and adventures

Finally, it’s worth looking at the Sparkwork system, which is especially exciting for Enshrouded’s longevity. The system lets you build mechanisms using logic, similar to Redstone in Minecraft. It’s meant to be even more complex and to enable the creation of entire dungeons or challenge maps.

The developers mention everything from simple light switches to puzzles, a combat arena, or escape rooms. The system works in single-player and multiplayer and is also designed for Adventure Sharing. This allows Enshrouded maps to be shared and played, much like adventure maps in Minecraft.

Conclusion on Enshrouded 1.0: Every change at launch

Enshrouded is one of the most popular survival games, with a large, handcrafted world full of secrets. Version 1.0 delivers a substantial update with the new volcanic region and floating islands, and the map’s edge has been extended. You can now have the lore read to you by first-rate voice actors, a wonderful feature for adventurers. Combat is smoother, mages have been brought in line with other classes, and performance should be noticeably better. The Sparkwork system could have a lasting impact on sharing worlds through Adventure Sharing.
