Enshrouded is one of the popular survival titles hitting its full release in 2026 as well. On October 15, it is finally time: the German developers are launching the game for the first time as version 1.0. That means not only lots of improvements to existing systems, but also a wealth of new content. Some of these aspects are already known, others remain a surprise. In this article, we take a look at everything we know so far. From hints about a new area to reworks of the building system, there are already a few details out in the open.
Enshrouded Update 8: Combat, armor, and skill tree improved

In April, Enshrouded received a fairly extensive update that, with “Forging The Path”, quite literally paved the way for the upcoming full release. Pretty much every system was touched again and fundamentally refreshed. Since not everyone may have played since then, let’s quickly revisit these changes.
For example, the entire skill tree was overhauled. Abilities are now easier and faster to unlock, which adds more variety. Some skills now also have multiple tiers, allowing for later specialization. Other skills have been moved, including the beloved double jump.
Weapons were reworked as well. You can now build up a “Focus” and unleash a powerful special attack. This system also applies to tools, such as axes and pickaxes. All melee weapons also received a secondary, stronger attack, diversifying the moveset. Two-handed weapons were improved as well, enhancing their handling.
On top of that, armor also received a complete overhaul. Much like weapons, you can now upgrade armor in different ways. The same applies to shields and rings to make them even stronger. Depending on the type of gear, you will need to ask a specific NPC for help to perform the upgrades. As always, runes are required for upgrades.
You can try all these changes right now, ideally together with other players. We offer the right servers for that: Rent Enshrouded server, so you can roam Embervale with friends. You can even carry your save over later, so it can definitely pay off to get a head start.
Enshrouded 1.0 release: Further combat changes and balancing

Update 8 is meant to be the foundation for further changes coming with the 1.0 release. The exact details are not fully known yet. However, the roadmap hints at several improvements players can look forward to, building on “Forging The Path.”
These include:
- More tactical depth in combat
- Smarter enemies
- A greater variety of enemies overall
- A general balancing pass
Enshrouded performance and stability: Engine optimizations for release

Enshrouded runs on the team’s in-house engine, which has occasionally led to performance issues. Since the world of Enshrouded is so modular — you can dismantle and reuse almost everything — the game’s technical backbone is extremely important. In a recent tech video, the devs explained exactly what is changing and how for the release. Players on lower-end PCs, as well as those with high-end rigs, will welcome these adjustments.
Improvements include:
- Increased LOD range, meaning distant parts of the world are more detailed and sharper.
- Shadows that work better and cause fewer stutters.
- Changed world rendering to make everything more performant.
- Improved vegetation with better performance.
- Expanded support for ray tracing, hopefully with more FPS and more stable gameplay.
Enshrouded new areas: Floating islands, enemies, and secrets

With every major update, Enshrouded has added a new area, and the release will be no different. The huge open world will be expanded with floating islands, bringing the action into the vertical dimension. Use tools like the grappling hook, the glider, or your climbing skills to explore this new region down to the smallest detail. Naturally, the area also brings many new enemies, upgrades, and secrets. All existing biomes will also get another upgrade, with new locations, navigation improvements, and various tweaks.
Enshrouded 1.0 features: Quality of life, basebuilding, and more

Beyond that, many smaller things were mentioned here and there that long-term players will be happy to hear about. These often concern quality-of-life upgrades to make some otherwise annoying parts of the game much more pleasant. There are also a few entirely new mechanics.
- Basebuilding will be expanded with a logic system, working similarly to Redstone in Minecraft.
- Items on the ground are now auto-picked up, saving you lots of clicks.
- You can upgrade chests in your base directly without having to empty them first.
- Expanded and improved combat against the dragon.
- You can now choose which type of updraft you want to use for the glider.
- Customizable character models with larger body types.
- NPCs in your base now have better pathfinding.
- An overhaul of the fishing system with less frustration.
Conclusion on Enshrouded 1.0: Release, features, and outlook
The details known so far about Enshrouded 1.0 are promising. Better performance is always important to players and will hopefully deliver smoother gameplay with improved visual detail. That is especially crucial when you want to explore the new area. The upcoming floating islands are tailor-made to admire Embervale from above. Add to that many QoL features that touch and improve existing systems. The release will not be the very last update either, that much we already know. The developers want to make the game even better and support it longer. But first, of course, version 1.0 with all its new features arrives on October 15.
