Wood and hardwood are among the most important resources in Palworld, because you’ll need them from your very first steps in the game all the way to level 80. Of course you can swing the axe yourself, but that takes a lot of time. Your Pals can take over this job too, and you don’t have to get your hands dirty. Whether you’re chopping trees on the map or setting up a Logging Site in your base, you should always have wood in stock. Today we’re looking at the Pals that love chopping wood and can lend you a hand. Some of them are also worthwhile if you actively go looking for trees and chop them together.
Lumbering in Palworld: Always Keep Wood and Hardwood in Stock

Wood is the material you can basically always use. It goes into a wide range of crafting recipes, and you also build your base out of it. For that you’ll obviously need quite a lot of wood! Later on you’ll also have to collect hardwood to make further recipes. Whether it’s spheres, weapons, other work stations or building parts for your base, wood is extremely important in Palworld.
You can hand over wood gathering to your Pals very early on. Some even have special partner skills that you can use actively. Or you collect wood and hardwood together with friends on your own server, you can rent a Palworld server directly from us. None of this is particularly complex, since there are only two types of wood. But you can then process them into all kinds of things.
Work stations for Pals with Lumbering:
- Logging Site (level 7) for wood
- Logging Site 2 (level 43) for hardwood
- Ancient Synthesizer (level 78) for both types of wood
Pals can also chop trees on Palpagos Island, so you can collect wood while you’re out and about. Some Pals only show their true strength when you’re actively out with them chopping trees in no time! Trees grow back after a while (usually one in-game day) and are therefore a renewable resource. For a controlled environment, use the Logging Sites instead. How best to staff your base with Pals overall is shown in our guide (Palworld Guide: Best Pals for Base, Gathering, Crafting, and Electricity) .
The Best Pals for Lumbering in Palworld: From Level 1 to 80
With more than 60 Pals you have a pretty good selection of lumberjacks for all your needs. You don’t necessarily have to prioritize this work, since you can also end up with too much wood. Pals with several work suitabilities are a good choice, but the higher their Lumbering level, the faster the wood is chopped. That’s why we’re looking at Pals that can reach the highest possible level thanks to their potential or that have matching partner skills to help you with lumbering. As always, you can use manuals to raise the level of work suitabilities.
Lumbering Pals in the Early Game (Level 1-30)

- Gumoss: Gumoss can’t chop wood itself, but its partner skill reduces the weight of all types of wood in your inventory by 40-60%. At the same time, it increases the efficiency of other Pals at lumbering by 30-50%. That makes Gumoss the best Pal when you’re actively chopping wood. Catch it from level 2 right at the start!
- Eikthyrdeer: Catch this Pal at level 9 and unlock its saddle at level 12. While being ridden, Eikthyrdeer chops trees up to 500% more efficiently. At its maximum it also reaches level 6 in Lumbering.
- Elphidran: Focuses solely on lumbering and reaches level 7 at most. That’s really strong for the early game! You can catch it from level 20 in the first Wildlife Sanctuary or at level 25 near the spawn.
- Eikthyrdeer Terra: Can be caught from level 20 in the first Wildlife Sanctuary. Unlike the regular Eikthyrdeer, it gives other Pals in the base +1 in Lumbering and reaches level 6 itself as well.
- Mammorest: Catchable at level 26 and rideable with a saddle from level 28. That way it actively chops trees, just like Eikthyrdeer, up to 500% more efficiently!
Lumbering Pals in the Mid Game (Level 31-50)

- Dinossom Lux: Offers a good combo of level 5 Generating Electricity and level 7 Lumbering. It can be caught from level 34 in the desert region and splits its time well between both jobs.
- Mammorest Cryst: One level better at lumbering than its regular variant. The partner skill is the same, but you only unlock the saddle at level 41. You can catch Mammorest Cryst itself from level 37 at the foot of the iceberg. It’s perfect for actively chopping trees!
- Wumpo: A versatile Pal that, besides level 7 Lumbering, also masters Handiwork, Cooling and above all Transporting. It also gives all other Pals in the base +1 in Transporting! Catch it at level 46 in the icy mountain regions. Which other Pals are good at handiwork is covered in our guide (Palworld Handiwork: All Stations and the 15 Best Handiwork Pals) .
- Fenglope: Like Elphidran, it focuses solely on lumbering and reaches level 7. It can be caught at level 45 in the third Wildlife Sanctuary. You’ll find all Wildlife Sanctuaries in our overview (Palworld Wildlife Sanctuaries: Locations, Levels, and Rare Pals) .
- Bushi Noct: If you’re looking for a multitasker, Bushi Noct is the best choice! It also reaches level 7 in Lumbering, but masters Kindling, Handiwork, Gathering and Transporting as well. That makes it extremely flexible, although it can’t always focus on lumbering. It spawns at level 47 on Sakurajima.
Lumbering Pals in the Late Game (Level 51-80)

- Celesdir: One of the three Pals that naturally reach level 10 in Lumbering. Make sure to catch it as early as level 54 on Feybreak, it’s fairly easy to find. It also collects the harvest from fields. More on that in our guide (Palworld Gathering: The best Pals for harvesting your fields) .
- Cryolinx Terra: Only reaches level 8 in Lumbering, but also handles Mining, Handiwork and Transporting at the same time. You’ll find it at level 62 on the western coast of Feybreak.
- Bastigor: Only catchable in the World Tree at level 75. Besides lumbering, it also masters Mining and above all Cooling at level 10. That can be a handy combo for your base!
- Celesdir Noct: Basically just as effective as the regular Celesdir, but also nocturnal. Whether it’s worth the effort is up to you. Because you’ll only find Celesdir Noct once, as an Alpha boss at level 79 in the World Tree.
- Silvegis: The only late-game Pal that focuses solely on lumbering. It also reaches level 10 and is therefore perfectly suited for the job! You’ll find an Alpha Silvegis at level 62 on Feybreak, and after that only again at level 80 in the World Tree.
Conclusion: Always Enough Resources for Crafting with Lumbering Pals
Since wood is an important resource in Palworld, you should always have Pals topping up your supplies. They help you actively chop trees and collect wood that way. But they can also work automatically at the Logging Sites in your base and gradually fill up your chests. Either way, Pals with Lumbering are constant companions in the game, since you can basically always use wood. Use Pals with good partner skills to get even more out of them! Some are better as team members or mounts, while others prefer to work in the base.
