Passive abilities are a great way to customize Pals and tailor them to their special strengths. Each Pal can have up to four different skills, shown at the bottom left of the status menu. When you catch a Pal, some of these abilities are already present, some good and some bad. You can improve them by, for example, catching new Pals with Yakumo, breeding them, or fitting them at an operating table with single-use implants. Improvements from passive skills range from higher attack to abilities that even transfer to you as the player. With version 1.0, a whole range of new passives has been added, and you can now use single-use implants for powerful skills to apply them specifically to your Pals.
Palworld passive skills from catching: drop chances and Yakumo

Some of the new passives can be obtained simply by catching Pals in the wild. The odds naturally vary depending on how strong the effect is. As mentioned in the intro, you can use Yakumo to get better passives via his partner ability. In multiplayer, everyone can get the Pal they want. And if you are still looking for a suitable server, you can rent a Palworld server as your own dedicated server! There you can find and use the right passives.
- Featherweight: Gives your mount +1 jump, a weaker version of a mutation passive you will find later in the list.
- Heavyweight: Can only be applied to particularly heavy Pals. Grants +20% defense and makes the Pal immune to knockback.
- Generous: An exciting skill that makes the Pal drop more items. Perfect for Pals you want to butcher anyway. Breeds well to maximize loot.
- Selfless: The better variant of Generous. The Pal drops 100% more items, i.e., double the loot.
- Stablehand: Increases the Pal’s Farming work level by +1. Only good for beginners, irrelevant later.
- Stablemaster: Improved version of the previous passive. Gives the Pal +2 levels in Farming. Much better for Pals that produce items for you at the Ranch.
- Prime Catch: You can only get this skill while fishing. It boosts Ice attacks, Water attacks, and the Pal’s defense by 5%, a kind of weaker version of Pond Lord for Neptilius. Very handy in the early game.
- Stamina Pro: Reduces the player’s stamina consumption by 5%.
- Healing Coach: Your natural HP regeneration increases by 5%.
- Reload Master: Increases the player’s reload speed for firearms by 4%.
Palworld breeding and mutations: new passives and single-use implants

These passives can only be obtained through breeding. Thanks to the new cakes, you now have more control over what types of Pals you actually want to breed (Palworld 1.0 breeding guide: mutations, new cakes, and the Ancient Breeding Facility explained) . With an exquisite vegetable cake, you can also increase the chance of mutations, which can create rare rainbow passives. In addition, you can obtain these five skills as single-use implants and thus teach them to a desired Pal. As the item name suggests, you can only use these special implants once. However, you can pass them on to offspring through breeding.
- Babysitter: Reduces both egg production time and incubation time by 30% while the Pal is at base. Use this skill if you have, for example, a breeding base.
- Bulwark: With this skill, the Pal is immune to explosion damage. Not always practical, but helpful in some situations. Still not as good as other mutations.
- Anomaly: A comprehensive skill. Gives Pals and the player +50% HP regeneration, plus +25% defense. Also makes you immune to poison and burn damage. A strong skill for combat Pals.
- Immortal: Very good for combat. Grants the Pal 5% lifesteal, stealing HP from the enemy. Also gives +100% HP regeneration to the Pal only and +15% attack damage.
- Skyrunner: Only suitable for mounts and gives the Pal +2 jumps in midair. Useful if you travel a lot. The better version of Featherweight.
World Tree in Palworld: powerful passives with drawbacks

The last category of passive abilities can only be obtained at the World Tree, the final area in Palworld. Look for Pals with a blue glow around them, as only these can have the corresponding World Tree passives. Given when you encounter them in the game, these are very powerful abilities. But all of them also have a negative effect to balance that power. So you must weigh whether the drawbacks limit you or whether the positive effect is worth more to you.
You can breed all these skills onto other Pals as usual or pass them on via single-use implants to Pals you cannot find in the World Tree. Each of the seven abilities also ensures you can harvest the valuable resources in the World Tree so they do not disappear in front of you.
- Devil’s Hands: Great for base workers with +90% work speed. However, sanity drains 15% faster, which you can manage.
- Dimensional Rift: Increases movement speed by 50%, but fullness decreases 15% faster. Good for mounts.
- Avatar of Destruction: Improves the Pal with +40% attack and +20% defense but halves its HP. Extremely risky.
- Enlightened: The opposite of Devil’s Hands, with 50% less SAN drain, but 20% slower work speed. Really not good.
- Sacred Body: Increases the Pal’s attack by 50% but also reduces attack by 30% at the same time. Use it for Pals that do not attack, for example mounts.
- Consecrated Blade: +50% attack, but −30% defense. Good for a glass-cannon build, but risky.
- Worldseed: Lowers the Pal’s HP by 20%, but fullness decreases 50% slower.
Conclusion: Choose the best combination of passive abilities in Palworld
Choosing the right passives can be decisive, especially late in Palworld. With them, you can make strong Pals even stronger and tailor their attack patterns precisely to their strengths. Some passives are also useful for other tasks, whether base work, breeding new Pals, or more freedom of movement for the player. With Yakumo’s ability, the new single-use implants, and other methods, you can transfer passives deliberately and assemble the best Pals.
