Set up and join a Palworld server | 4Netplayers

This guide starts with an already created Palworld server at 4Netplayers. You’ll set up access, start the server, and check with your group that everyone can join. A manual installation via SteamCMD is not required.

If you want to bring an existing save, read the transfer guide before importing. For a quick functionality test, let the new server create its own files first. However, that does not replace backing up your current save.

1. Open the server configuration

Sign in to the server management and open your Palworld configuration under Gameserver. Make sure you’ve selected the correct server, especially if you run multiple instances. Note the configuration ID; it uniquely identifies your server in case of questions.

For getting started, the fields offered in Basic Mode are sufficient. Directly editing PalWorldSettings.ini in Advanced Mode is only necessary if you want to change settings that aren’t available as form fields. The procedure is described in Change server settings.

2. Set name and access

Choose a server name your fellow players will recognize. For a private group, avoid a very generic name like “Palworld Server,” as it makes searching the list unnecessarily difficult.

Keep the two passwords clearly separated:

  • Server password: for people who are allowed to play.
  • Admin password: only for people who should manage the server.

Use different passwords. The admin password should never appear in a public invite or a screenshot of the configuration. For setup and sign-in, see Become an admin.

If your group plays on multiple platforms, check the crossplay setup now. Xbox and PS5 require access via a Community Server; a working IP connection on PC alone is not a sufficient test.

3. Start the server

Save your settings and start the server via the server management. Wait until it is shown as running and the startup has completed. Do not press Start or Restart repeatedly during this time.

Take the IP address and game port from your specific instance’s display. Don’t blindly use a port from an example on the internet. Login details for FTP or a management interface are not the game address.

4. Connect in-game

Direct connection

If your game version offers a field for direct connection, open the multiplayer server list and enter the displayed address in the IP:PORT format. Confirm the connection and enter the server password when prompted.

Community server list

In Palworld, open the server list, choose Community Servers, and search for your server name. Select the correct entry and sign in with the server password. This is the primary access method for Xbox and PS5.

Pocketpair describes both methods in the official joining guide. The difference between direct connection and community registration is explained in the server overview.

5. Test with your group

First, have one person from each platform you use join. Check that you are on the same server and that access is protected as intended. This helps you catch a missing platform allowance before you plan a longer session.

After the first successful start, you should download and back up a save. Keep rule changes together with that save. A short note like “before breeding time change” is more helpful during later restoration than several unlabeled folders.

If the first join attempt fails

First compare server status, IP, port, and password. If the server is missing only on one console, check the community registration. If it’s unreachable on any platform, note the exact message and time instead of immediately creating a new save. The Connection failed guide walks you through the next steps based on the error.
