With the Deep North, several new weapons have been added to the game. But you can’t just craft them outright—every step of the process needs to be planned and made individually. Weapons now require molds from which you create their components. On top of that, the new metal, Bloodgold, isn’t easy to find. You’ll need to explore parts of the Deep North to gather all the materials. But once you do, you can forge the best weapons in the game. Later, you can upgrade them with two different infusions, depending on your playstyle. Today we’ll walk through the entire process and show you where to find each resource.
Valheim Deep North crafting stations: Build the Icy Kiln and Frost Foundry
You can’t craft your new Deep North weapons just like that—you’ll first need two new workstations. On the one hand is the Icy Kiln, which lets you turn Ice into Liquid Frost. You can then pour that Liquid Frost in the Frost Foundry using the appropriate mold to make a weapon or a piece of armor. But you’ll already need to find several new materials just to build these stations.
Ice: You can find ice anywhere there’s water. Use your pickaxe and break it near lakes or rivers. You can also shatter frozen enemies. You’ll need ice not only to build the Icy Kiln but also to refine it into Liquid Frost.
Frost Cores: These snowflake-like cores can only be found in the Winding Tunnels beneath the large houses in the Deep North. You can simply pick them up. They’re required for both stations—gather at least 20 of them.
This new crafting is even more fun with friends. Since there’s a new mold for every weapon, you can trade among yourselves and gather materials together. Valheim weapon molds: find and craft them in the Deep North
Once you have both stations, you can focus on the weapon molds. In the Deep North you have to cast weapons yourself—you can’t just craft them outright. The same applies to some quest items like a key, as well as to armor and shields. Take the Nord Sword, for example. First, you’ll need to find the appropriate mold for it, then create a cast. You’ll then process that cast with Liquid Frost at the Frost Foundry to finally obtain your weapon.
First, you need to find the molds for the weapons, which can be done in several ways:
- Destroy trash piles in the Winding Tunnels under the villages
- In chests near Memorials
- Destroy weapon racks on the lower level of the Mörkhalla dungeon
- In barrels in abandoned villages (not all molds)
Once you’ve found the mold for your weapon, you can make a cast. Use the Black Forge, or the Galdr Table for magical weapons. You’ll need to upgrade both first—the forge with Smith’s Aprons and the Galdr Table with a Standing Loom. Here you’ll encounter more new materials.
- Timber: The common wood type in the Deep North.
- Elk Hide: Obtained by hunting elk.
- Norna Silk: Only dropped by witches in Mörkhalla.
Valheim Bloodgold: where to find it and how to smelt it in the Deep North
Bloodgold is the final key ingredient needed for the following steps. To obtain it, you must make preparations in the Ashlands. Defeat the boss Fader there and craft the Eternal Pyre from his relic. It works similarly to the Wisp Fountain and occasionally drops Embers. You can then combine these Embers with Seal Hides in the Deep North to create Ember Charges. These are very powerful bombs that you’ll absolutely need.
To smelt Bloodgold, you need Petrified Tissue. This is only dropped by the massive Rotten Trolls—by blowing them up with Ember Charges after they die. The trolls are scattered about and are easier to fight if you attack their feet. Once defeated, they remain as petrified statues. Throw a few Ember Charges to blast them and make them yield Tissue. You can then smelt this into Bloodgold.
Make molds and refine weapons with Liquid Frost in Valheim
By now you should have all the essentials. Upgrade your Black Forge and Galdr Table to work on the molds. Sticking with our Nord Sword example—the process is generally the same for all weapons. At the Black Forge, combine the found mold with Bloodgold and Timber to create a cast. Meanwhile, refine Ice into Liquid Frost in the Icy Kiln. Five Ice produce one Liquid Frost.
Finally, combine both the Liquid Frost and the cast at the Frost Foundry. Each cast requires 5 Liquid Frost, and the process can take a bit of time. In the end, your weapon will be dispensed from the pedestal and ready to use.
Valheim weapon upgrades in the Deep North: Thunderblood and Frostfire effects
Each of the new Deep North weapons can be enhanced once more, similar to the gemstones in the Ashlands. You have two options: Thunderblood or Frostfire. The process is the same for both but requires some prep work.
To craft them, you’ll need the respective Essences, which only drop from Fallen Warriors at Memorials. To summon them, you first need a piece of Memorial Coal and to find a Memorial. With three pieces of Coal, you can summon a warrior who can drop either Thunderblood or Frostfire Essence at random.
- Frostfire: Weapons with this effect deal slightly less normal damage but add both Frost and Fire damage.
- Thunderblood: Weapons with this effect are slightly stronger and add Lightning damage. They can also trigger chain lightning, similar to Iolite. You also get the Bloodstone effect, increasing your damage by 0.2 percent per missing HP.
Now combine your weapon with Bloodgold and one of the two Essences to apply the desired effect. You can then upgrade it as normal to increase its power.
Conclusion: crafting Deep North weapons and armor in Valheim
The Deep North holds the strongest weapons—but you won’t obtain them easily. You’ll first need to learn a new crafting system, find molds, and then produce casts from them. The process is more involved, but also very rewarding. The key is gathering all the necessary materials and ingredients so you can run through the whole sequence smoothly.
