Valheim’s Deep North once again lets every player choose between classic weapons and magic. In Valheim’s final biome, several options for a magic build have been added, including some very powerful weapons to fight with. In total, you can choose between four staves and equip the matching armor to regenerate enough Eitr. As with regular weapons, you rely on the new mold system here, which can stretch out the crafting process a bit. In the end, though, you will have an extremely powerful loadout and, hopefully, be ready to face the final boss.
Caller set armor in Valheim: Eitr regeneration and frost resistance in the Deep North

First, let’s look at the armor you can use as a mage in the Deep North. Just like in the Mistlands and Ashlands, it focuses on regenerating your Eitr. At the same time, it keeps you warm as you roam this frigid biome.
To craft the armor, you first need to find the corresponding molds. This is likely the most time-consuming aspect in the Deep North and can take a while. We have already covered exactly how this manufacturing works for regular weapons (Valheim 1.0: Weapon crafting in the Deep North with Bloodgold & upgrades) . The principle is exactly the same for magical items.
The molds for the Caller armor only drop from witches, which spawn in the Mörkhalla dungeon and during Jotun invasions. The latter are great spots where you can farm them indefinitely. Just don’t destroy the crystal and keep killing witches until you have all three molds. You can then prepare the molds at the Galdr Table together with other materials. After that, harden them with liquid ice.
- Helmet: A helm with an imposing elk rack. In addition to the mold, it needs an elk trophy, elk sinews, and Norna threads. Grants +40% Eitr regeneration.
- Torso: Craft it with the mold, bloodgold, elk hide, and Norna threads. Grants +60% Eitr regeneration, frost resistance, but makes you slightly slower.
- Leggings: Also requires bloodgold, elk hide, and Norna threads. Adds another +60% Eitr regeneration.
- Cape: No mold needed. Craft it from seal pelt, Norna threads, bloodgold, and refined Eitr. Grants frost resistance, +20% Eitr regeneration, and -10% dodge stamina cost.

Valheim staves in the Deep North: Lightning Strike, Echo Spike, Spirit Caller, Northern Vengeance
As a mage in the Deep North, you can also choose between four new staves. Two are elemental, and two are focused on blood magic. Together with the armor, they form the foundation for the perfect mage build for Valheim’s final major challenge. As with all gear, you first need to find the right molds, which is a bit easier than for the armor. Then process the molds at the Galdr Table with additional materials.
You can find the molds for all four staves:
- In trash piles in the winding tunnels beneath the large houses
- In chests buried at memorials
- On weapon racks in Mörkhalla, which you should destroy
Lightning Strike staff in Valheim: Direct lightning damage

This first weapon is easy to grasp and primarily good for direct offense. With Lightning Strike, you call down bolts of lightning onto your enemies. They deal 300 lightning damage, which is hefty. Each cast consumes 40 Eitr, so make sure you are wearing the Caller armor. Lightning Strike is simple but always effective. To craft it, you need bloodgold and Norna threads, plus Thunderblood essence from fallen warriors.
Echo Spike staff in Valheim: Ricochets with frost and fire

Using Frostfire essence, you can craft the Echo Spike staff. Its use is a bit trickier, as the staff doesn’t deal direct impact damage. It fires a projectile that can ricochet off the ground. On impact with a wall or the floor, it deals 60 frost damage and 60 fire damage. It can bounce once more and hit enemies in the process. This staff is best suited to tight spaces, where you can place the projectile precisely.
Spirit Caller staff in Valheim: Summon spectral companions

The first blood magic staff packs a punch. You sacrifice a portion of your HP and Eitr to summon spectral creatures. It can be one of four animals: bear, wolf, elk, or boar. Depending on the staff’s level, you can have 1 to 3 animals fighting at once. They are stronger than their living counterparts and offer great support in combat. The animal is chosen at random; you cannot directly control which appears.
Northern Vengeance staff in Valheim: Barrier and reflect damage

The last staff focuses on defense but can also be offensive. By spending 100 Eitr and 40% of your health, you create a barrier around you and your allies. It lasts 60 seconds per level and reflects incoming damage. Each hit can return 75 to 91 frost damage to the attacker. Damage is not fully absorbed, like with the Staff of Protection, but is partially reflected back.
Best food for Eitr regeneration in Valheim’s Deep North

To keep enough Eitr on hand, you should carry the right dishes. These fill not only your stomach but also your Eitr bar. In the Deep North, you can choose from several truly powerful foods that give you the strength you need in battle.
- Oat porridge: A tasty dish that gives +85 Eitr.
- Smoked fish: Delicious fish for +95 Eitr.
- Baked Poteitr: A baked potato for mages in Valheim, granting +100 Eitr.
- Meatballs and Poteitr: Hearty fare for +105 Eitr.
- Oven Pancakes: More pancakes in Valheim, also +105 Eitr.
- Fish soup: Just as nourishing with +105 Eitr, but with different ingredients.
Conclusion: Valheim mage build for the Deep North endgame
Magic is a highly varied combat style you can lean into toward the end of Valheim. In the Deep North, you can take this path further and become the ultimate mage. Invest in the Caller armor and slay witches for the required molds. Choose between four new staves depending on your preferred playstyle. And always carry the right foods, so you are never hungry or short on Eitr.
