Is an Enshrouded dedicated server worth it instead of co-op through a host?
Yes, as soon as several of you play regularly. In regular co-op, the world lives on the host’s PC, and everyone else can only play while the host is online. An Enshrouded dedicated server keeps the world online permanently: anyone in your group can keep building, gathering resources or completing quests at any time.
A dedicated server is especially worth it if:
- your group plays at different times
- you are building a large base together
- you want to play with many players at once, up to 16 are possible on PC
- the host PC should not have to run all the time
What does the Enshrouded server save and what stays with the player?
The Enshrouded server saves the world, and every player keeps their character. Bases, Flame Altars, chests, dug-up terrain, rescued survivors and quest progress live on the server and apply to everyone. Level, skill points and inventory belong to the character and travel with each player to other worlds.
- On the server: bases, Flame Altars, chests, terrain, NPCs in your base, quests
- With the player: level, skill tree, inventory and equipment
If a friend completes a quest while you are offline, it is completed for you too. Experience and skill points, on the other hand, everyone earns for themselves.
How do I transfer my co-op world from PC to the Enshrouded server?
You upload your existing world to the Enshrouded server via FTP. Before that, you rename the world files from your save folder so the server recognizes them as its own world. Your character stays on your PC and automatically shows up on the server again when you connect from the same PC with the same Steam account.
Here is how:
- Copy your save from the
Saved Games\enshroudedfolder - Rename the world files as described in the guide
- Stop the server, upload the files to the
savegamefolder and start the server
You can also download the world at any time, as an extra backup or to keep playing locally.
How do I set permissions and difficulty on my Enshrouded server?
You assign permissions through roles and difficulty through presets. Each role, such as Admin, Friend or Guest, has its own password and its own permissions. The password a player joins with decides what they are allowed to do. For difficulty, you pick one of the presets Default, Relaxed, Hard or Survival.
For each role you decide, among other things, whether players may:
- build and demolish in bases
- open chests and storage
- extend bases
- kick and ban other players
With the Custom preset, you set individual values yourself, such as player health or how much experience combat gives.
Which platform does my Enshrouded server run on?
Choose your group’s platform on your server: PC (Steam) or PlayStation 5. Everyone in your group then plays together on the same platform, and the PC version includes the Steam Deck.
Your friends find the server in the game’s server browser. On PC, you can also add it via your Steam favorites. If it does not appear in the server browser, connect directly on PC via your Steam favorites using the query port.
What changes with Enshrouded 1.0 for my server?
Enshrouded 1.0 was released on October 15, 2026, and your Enshrouded server at 4Netplayers already runs the full version. We install updates automatically, you just restart the server afterwards. Simply keep playing your Early Access world: bases, chests and quest progress stay intact. With 1.0, the game resets the skill tree once, so everyone reassigns their skills.
New in the full release:
- a new region with lava, ruins and floating islands
- level cap 50 and a new gear tier
- nine new spells, including summons
- Sparkworks: wire up levers, pressure plates, doors and traps in your bases
- many new enemies, quests and a final boss fight
