Enshrouded Server: Fix connection problems
If you or your fellow players can’t join your Enshrouded server, it’s usually one of these issues. Go through them in order.
1. Is the server running?
Check your server status in the Customer Panel. After a start or restart, it takes a moment for the server to fully boot and appear in the game. Wait a few minutes before connecting.
2. Does the server no longer start after a change?
If you edited the enshrouded_server.json file, a syntax error can prevent startup. Typical causes include a missing comma, an extra comma before a closing bracket, or a missing quotation mark. Validate the file with a JSON validator, then start the server again.
3. Can’t find the server in the server browser?
Add your server to Steam as a favorite. The important part is the query port, not the game port - Steam can only find the server via the query port. For instructions, see Connect directly to the server.
4. Is the password being rejected?
On an Enshrouded server, each role has its own password. Check that the password your teammate enters exactly matches the password of a role in enshrouded_server.json. Pay attention to case sensitivity. How roles and passwords work is explained here: Set roles and passwords.
5. Do the game and server have the same version?
After a game update, the game and server must be on the same version. We roll out the update for your server automatically - then restart your server in the Customer Panel and make sure your game is updated in Steam as well.
6. Is the server full?
If all slots are in use, no one else can join. For roles with reservedSlots, slots remain available even when the server is otherwise full.
