Change game settings for Enshrouded

Enshrouded offers the game settings Default, Relaxed, Hard, and Survival as built-in presets. If you want to define individual values yourself, you need the Custom preset.

Important: Values in the gameSettings section of the enshrouded_server.json file only take effect if gameSettingsPreset is set to Custom. With Default, Relaxed, Hard, or Survival, the server ignores those individual values. If a change to health, experience, or other gameplay values does not show up in-game, check the preset first.

Choose a preset

1. Stop your Enshrouded server in the customer panel.
2. In Advanced Mode, open the file enshrouded_server.json.
3. Find gameSettingsPreset and enter the desired preset, for example "gameSettingsPreset": "Hard",.
4. Save the file and restart the server.

Valid presets are Default, Relaxed, Hard, Survival, and Custom. Pay close attention to exact capitalization.

Use custom game settings

Stop the server and set gameSettingsPreset in enshrouded_server.json to Custom. Then adjust the desired values in the gameSettings section. For example, playerHealthFactor controls the players maximum health points, and experienceCombatFactor the experience gained from combat. Save the file and restart the server.

Before starting, also review the other values under gameSettings: as soon as you switch to Custom, not only your recently changed values apply, but all settings listed there.

Each value has an allowed range. experienceCombatFactor ranges from 0.25 to 2, playerHealthFactor from 0.25 to 4. Values outside the range are limited by the server to the respective minimum or maximum. You can find all settings and ranges in the official overview by Keen Games.

Check JSON syntax

A syntax error in enshrouded_server.json can prevent the server from starting. After editing, pay special attention to quotation marks, commas, and braces. You can use a JSON validator for this.
