Download and back up your Palworld save
You want to back up your Palworld save before changing settings or switching to another server? Download the full savegame folder and store it together with your configuration.
This guide covers downloading. If you want to roll back to an earlier state, use Restore backups.
1. Stop the server
Inform your fellow players and stop the server via the server management. Wait until Server is not running is displayed. Do not download the save while a session is running, as files may change during copying.
If you are still connected as an admin, you can run /Save before stopping. This does not replace the subsequent file backup.
2. Connect via FTP
- FileZilla: https://filezilla-project.org/
Important: In FileZilla, set the transfer mode to Binary. Click Transfer → Transfer type → Binary. - WinSCP: https://winscp.net/eng/index.php
Connect to the gameserver FTP. You can find the credentials for your server under FTP. Use the details for the correct configuration if you run multiple servers.
3. Download the complete save
Open the following directory and download the entire 0 folder to your computer:
/Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/
Keep all subfolders and files. This backs up not only the world but also the included player data. If multiple world folders exist, keep them together at first instead of picking one based on its name.
4. Back up the configuration as well
Additionally download these two files from /Pal/Saved/Config/LinuxServer/:
GameUserSettings.iniPalWorldSettings.ini
This lets you later verify the save mapping and the server rules in effect at the time. The files may contain passwords. Store them securely and do not share them publicly.
5. Verify the download
Check in the FTP client that the queue is empty and no transfers failed. Store the backup in a dated folder and note whether it was created before an update, a rule change, or a migration.
Then restart the server unless further maintenance is planned. Keep important backups in a second location as well. For moving to another server, see the next steps under Upload Palworld save.
