The Ashlands are currently the last biome you can visit in Valheim. There you’ll face hellfire, the toughest enemies in the game, and plenty of new upgrades for your gear. You should only head there when you’re truly ready. Don’t take this challenge lightly! Battle nasty monsters and gather new resources to craft improved weapons. Or search for new building materials to spruce up your home. The Ashlands pull out all the stops, and until the deep North arrives with version 1.0, you can really cut loose here.
Valheim Ashlands biome: overview, preparation, and tips
If you want to travel to the Ashlands, you’ll need to meet a few conditions. First, we recommend you finish all major tasks in the Mistlands, craft new weapons and armor, and upgrade them as far as you can. You’ll also need to build the Drakkar, currently the largest and best ship in the game. Only with this ship can you sail south through the scalding waters to reach the Ashlands. For that, you must defeat the Queen in the Mistlands.
The Ashlands are a truly difficult biome and will pose major challenges. You’ll be best prepared if you don’t go alone. Rent a Valheim server and explore the Ashlands together. But you might also find a companion or two for your travels within the Ashlands.
Valheim Ashlands resources: Ash wood, Flametal, Grausten, and gemstones
The Ashlands certainly don’t lack resources—there are far more new recipes and things to discover than in other biomes. Many are needed for new gear, stronger weapons, and trinkets, while others are great for building and decoration. There’s something here for every kind of player!
- Ash wood: New wood for building and required for many of the new gear pieces.
- Flametal: A new, powerful ore used for almost all weapons and armor.
- Grausten: Perfect for all Valheim builders, a handsome stone for new structures.
- Iolite: A gemstone that imbues your weapons with lightning properties.
- Jade: Another gemstone that applies poison in combat.
- Bloodstone: The third gemstone, where your HP translate into more power.
- Sky Feather: Dropped by Valkyries, important for magic weapons.
- Molten Core: Lets you build portals out of stone.
Valheim Ashlands enemies: Taming Asksvin, skeletons, Bonemaw, and more
In the Ashlands you’ll encounter a whole host of new enemies you’ve never seen before. You should learn their attack and behavior patterns to hold your ground. However, not all of them may be hostile.
- Fallen Valkyrie: Flying bone foes that attack from the air with spit and claws.
- Charred Skeletons: Typical skeleton warriors in various forms.
- Morgen: Strange bone creatures that run on all fours. They bite, roll, and body slam you.
- Bonemaw: Sea creatures that live in the Ashlands’ hot waters. They attack with spit.
- Asksvin: Toad-like salamanders you can tame and use as mounts in addition to fighting them.
- Volture: Birds of prey that don’t deal much damage but are hard to hit.
- Lava Blob: A new kind of slime, this time formed from lava. Can burn you.
Valheim Ashlands food: Vineberries, Fiddleheads, and Smoke Puffs recipes
Despite the harsh conditions, a few edible resources survive in the Ashlands. You’ll find mushrooms like the Smoke Puff and ferns like the Fiddlehead. There’s also a new crop, the Vineberries. As always, you can cook tasty dishes to boost your HP, stamina, or Eitr.

- Spicy Jam: A great snack for your adventure, grants 90 stamina.
- Fiery Mix: A slightly better dish with 95 stamina.
- Baked Crust Pie: For anyone who needs lots of stamina. Grants 105 stamina and 34 HP.
Food for more health:
- Volture Meat: Simple grilled meat for 70 HP and 24 stamina.
- Asksvin Tail: Alternative meat, also restores 70 HP and 24 stamina.
- Bonemaw Meat: A bit more nourishing, with 90 HP and 30 stamina.
- Fiery Svinstew: A stew for a full 95 HP.
- Meat Mash: Mix all meat types to get a 100 HP boost.
- Spicy Pie: The best food, with a full 105 HP and 35 stamina.

- Sparkling Berry Bouillon: Entry-level food for magic users, with 85 Eitr.
- Zesty Mushroom Shake: A milkshake for 90 Eitr.
- Marinated Leafy Greens: The best food for all magic users, with 95 Eitr.
Valheim Ashlands POIs: Ruins, fortresses, burial grounds, and Dyrnwyn
The Ashlands offer a whole range of exciting points of interest. While exploring you’ll find abandoned and crumbling ruins, as well as full fortresses and burial grounds. You’ll also find rare loot there, but most chests are guarded by strong enemies.
The most intriguing are the mysterious sites, of which there are three. There you can collect three parts of an ancient sword and combine them into the ultimate weapon, Dyrnwyn. The third location is particularly notable, as the miniboss Lord Reto awaits a fight there. Valheim Ashlands boss Fader: summoning, tactics, and rewards
The boss of the Ashlands is Fader, a kind of dragon made of bones and a green glow. You can summon him by placing three bells around the Colosseum to lure him in. As befits the current final boss, he’s extremely strong and uses every trick in the book. He can attack in both melee and at range, making the fight strategically demanding.
Our best tip is simply to use every trick in your arsenal. It’s no coincidence that you can upgrade and tweak almost every weapon again in the Ashlands. You should also equip the best armor for your playstyle (Valheim armor: All sets, biomes, and set bonuses at a glance) . Good dodging and lots of HP are a solid strategy for the fight. But we especially recommend magic, which prepares you very well for this battle.
After victory you’ll receive, as always, the trophy for the Forsaken Power, plus a relic. This will likely gain a use with version 1.0, but it’s currently still useless.

In Valheim’s current final biome you can once again get everything out of the game. There are loads of new and experimental weapons; with the gemstones in particular, you can tailor your combat style even more to yourself.
