After the steep, icy mountain ranges and the vast Plains, you can slowly step into Valheim’s late game. That means heading into the Mistlands, a region where you normally can’t see a single meter ahead. Use the Wisp light, which you can obtain after defeating Yagluth, to light your way. The Mistlands are one of Valheim’s toughest biomes: both the enemies and the terrain will test you. Still, there are plenty of valuable resources to gather and new gear to craft. It’s also the first biome where you’ll come into contact with magic and Eitr, introducing a third combat style alongside melee and ranged.
Valheim Mistlands biome: overview, tips, and preparation

The Mistlands lie far out on the edge of the map, roughly 5,900 to the maximum 10,000 meters from spawn. The terrain is very hilly and hard to traverse, making any excursion into the Mistlands a challenge. And of course there’s the fog, which is ever-present and lingers even when you use aids like the Wisp light. Enemies are no pushovers either and can ambush you.
That’s why preparation is everything! Farm the most important materials on the Plains first for top-tier armor. Bring a strong weapon, ideally Blackmetal. Or rent a Valheim server as your own game server with us and brave the shrouded region together.
Valheim Mistlands resources: Yggdrasil wood, Magecaps, and Eitr
The Mistlands are a mystical realm that feels like a fantasy setting and therefore holds rare and valuable resources—some of them magical. There isn’t a new metal here, though.
- Yggdrasil wood: Another wood type for new crafting recipes and builds. Can only be chopped with a Blackmetal axe.
- Sap: Extracted from ancient roots with an extractor and used to produce refined Eitr.
- Black marble: Primarily a building material—and a stylish one.
- Jotun Puffs: Yellow mushrooms you can cultivate for cooking.
- Magecaps: Long blue mushrooms you can also farm, especially important for Eitr.
- Black core: Found in mines and required for new crafting stations.
- Royal jelly: A nutritious ingredient from the mines.
- Soft tissue: Alongside sap, the second ingredient for refined Eitr.
- Refined Eitr: A key ingredient for many new recipes, including armor and magical items.
Valheim Mistlands enemies: Seeker, Hares, and Dvergr

The Mistlands are home to nasty insects that are far larger than they have any right to be. You’ll also encounter passive Hares and Dvergr, the dwarves of Valheim. You’ll need to hunt most creatures here to collect resources for new armor.
- Seeker: Flying insects that attack with claws and body slams. They come in bigger variants like Seeker Brood and Seeker Soldiers. They drop key armor materials such as Carapace, Mandible, and Seeker meat.
- Ticks: Gigantic versions of real-world ticks that drop Blood clots. Use these for the Staff of protection or a healing mead.
- Gjall: Tentacled flying insects that attack by spitting. Use their Bile bag to craft bombs.
- Dvergr mages: The dwarves of Valheim, found only in their Mistlands settlements. They attack only if threatened, but drop important materials like Soft tissue, Black marble, and Coins.
- Hares: Passive Mistlands animals—bigger than ours but still clearly hares. They drop Hare meat and Hare pelts for crafting.
Valheim Mistlands food and recipes: meat, mushrooms, and Eitr

Many Mistlands foods are meat-based, whether Seeker or Hare meat. Mushrooms matter again too, and you can now cook dishes that regenerate your Eitr. If you focus on magic, these foods are essential.
Food for more stamina:
- Salad: A mix of Jotun Puffs, onions, and cloudberries for 80 stamina.
- Mushroom omelette: A tasty omelette worth a full 86 stamina.
- Fish ’n’ Bread: The best stamina food at 90, but you’ll need to fish. Learn more in our guide (Valheim Fishing Guide: Best bait, all fish & locations) .
Food for more health:
- Seeker meat: Cooked meat that restores 60 HP.
- Hare meat: Exactly the same stats as Seeker meat, just from hares.
- Meat platter: Restores 80 HP, made from Hare, Seeker, and Lox meat. Requires a stone oven.
- Honey-glazed chicken breast: Tasty, nutritious chicken for another 80 HP.
- Misthare Supreme: The Mistlands’ best and priciest dish at 86 HP.
Food for more Eitr:
- Stuffed mushrooms: The first dish that restores 75 Eitr—perfect for magical attacks.
- Yggdrasil porridge: A bit heartier at 80 Eitr than the mushrooms.
- Seeker aspic: If you burn through Eitr, use this dish for +85 Eitr on your adventure.
Valheim Mistlands locations: Dvergr settlements and Infested Mines

While exploring you’ll find several interesting locations in the Mistlands worth a closer look. Dvergr settlements are fairly common, but you’ll also come across mines as well as abandoned weapons and armor scattered about.
- Dvergr structures: Appear in various forms, such as lighthouses, docks, viaducts, or excavation sites. They’re a good source of Black marble.
- Infested Mines: The Mistlands’ dungeon—rich in valuables, but filled with Seekers and Ticks.
- Ancient armor and swords: The Mistlands are littered with giant weapons and armor pieces, hinting at a great conflict. They’re a solid source of Iron and Copper.
Valheim Mistlands boss: defeating the Queen

Once you’ve explored the Mistlands enough and geared up, you can face the boss. Seek out an Infested Citadel and collect nine Sealbreaker fragments to combine into a Sealbreaker. Inside the dungeon, the Queen awaits—the Mistlands boss.
This grotesque insect is very powerful and likely the toughest boss you’ve met so far. Her attacks have long reach and hit from far away. The new magic staves can be a good strategy; otherwise we recommend the Demolisher as a melee weapon. Since the Queen is resistant to pierce damage, ranged weapons like bows are of limited use. Another strategy is using Bile bombs, though you’ll need to farm for them.
All in all, the fight is lengthy and will consume much of your gear and preparation. Bring plenty of food to refill health, stamina, and Eitr. Dodge smartly and use openings to recover. After your victory, you’ll receive the trophy for the Forsaken Power and five majestic carapaces to craft the crafting press. This lets you build the Drakkar and sail to the Ashlands.
Conclusion on the Valheim Mistlands biome: big challenges and big rewards
Compared to the Mistlands, the previous biomes feel like a stroll. Not only are there many strong and annoying monsters, the terrain is hilly and hard to traverse. The constant fog doesn’t help either, even with Wisp lights. The boss is no slouch, demanding a long, difficult fight. But once you’ve mastered the Mistlands, you’ll be well prepared for the game’s final hurdle.
