With Palworld’s full release, many aspects of working Pals have been improved. Not only do you now have twice as many work levels, but you can also deploy Pals more effectively in your base. And of course, there are 70+ new Pals that open up fresh combinations. All of this means you should reassess the Pals in your base to get even more out of them. Progression has been adjusted as well to be simpler and more straightforward. We’ll look at every change to Pal work and share tips on the best new Pals for your base.
Palworld 1.0: Changes to Pal Work in the Base

The biggest change is the jump from 5 to 10 tiers of Pal work suitability. This adds flexibility and reduces overlap across tasks, helping you discover stronger Pals faster and use and train the ones you have more effectively. Naturally, all existing Pals were adjusted to fit this system. In the wild you can now find Pals up to work tier 8; the last two tiers must be obtained differently.
One option is to condense Pals at the revamped Pal Condenser. It now requires far fewer Pals than before, making it much more accessible. Instead of 116 Pals, you now need only 48 Pals (4>8>12>24). This raises not just stats but also work skills. The first three levels grant +1 to a random work skill each. Tier 4, however, grants +1 to all work skills. Use the new condensation on your servers, too. If you don’t have one yet, you can rent an affordable Palworld game server and breed the best base Pals there. The reduced costs are a blessing for everyone.

Additional changes make Pals even more efficient:
- Research tiers for the Pal Work Institute have been adjusted and expanded.
- There are two new watchtowers: an optimized tower at level 28 and an ancient one at level 71. Both reduce SAN loss and help your Pals work happier.
- Work Skill Manuals are now easier to find, so you can raise skill tiers all the way to 10.
- For every work suitability there is now a Pal with a partner skill that raises the base tier by +1. The effect does not stack, but it’s perfect for specialized bases. The relevant Pals are:
- Clovee → Gathering
- Eikthyrdeer Terra → Lumbering
- Ribbuny → Handiwork
- Amione → Watering
- Cinnamoth → Farming
- Puffolt → Electricity Generation
- Katress Ignis → Kindling
- Petallia → Planting
- Wumpo → Transporting
- Tetroise → Mining
- Smokie Cryst → Cooling
- Mycora → Medicine Production
Best Working Pals and All‑Rounders in Palworld 1.0

A wave of new Pals means we need to place them properly. With the new level‑up options, nearly any Pal can shine, but some start with better fundamentals. The best choices are still those with a broad set of work skills who can switch tasks as needed. It also depends on your base layout and what you plan to produce.
Some tasks remain prioritized, but you can fine‑tune priorities via watchtower. Below are some of the best all‑rounders that can handle diverse jobs. We’ve left out Pals found only at the World Tree. You can find an earlier list in our previous guide: (Palworld All‑Rounder Pals: The Best Helpers for Your Base) .
Elgrove guide: Best early‑game base Pal in Palworld
Work skills:
- Planting Lvl. 3
- Gathering Lvl. 2
- Lumbering Lvl. 3
- Mining Lvl. 2
- Transporting Lvl. 3
Elgrove is likely the best Pal you can catch early on. Find the big green brute in the Bamboo Thicket at level 24 or in the first wildlife sanctuary. It can do five different jobs in your base, making it ready for just about anything. It’s also a larger Pal and thus a bit more efficient. Later, you can catch Elgrove Cryst, which stands out with Cooling Lvl. 5.
Skutlass Ignis guide: Kindling and Watering for your base
Work skills:
- Kindling Lvl. 3
- Watering Lvl. 2
- Gathering Lvl. 2
- Lumbering Lvl. 2
Skutlass Ignis is a curious Pal that’s both fish and sword. There’s a standard water variant and a fire variant. The latter is much better for your base thanks to four work skills out of the box. And Kindling is always useful. You’ll find it around level 40 on Fire Vein Isle, just north of the Thirst Dunes.
Majex guide: Handiwork and Kindling in Palworld
Work skills:
- Kindling Lvl. 4
- Handiwork Lvl. 5
- Medicine Production Lvl. 3
- Transporting Lvl. 2
You can catch Majex around level 35 in the second wildlife sanctuary and put it straight to work. Its standout is Handiwork at tier 5, which is extremely useful and needed at many crafting stations in your base. It can also cover other roles, especially starting fires. As a Dark‑type it’s nocturnal, but very hungry.
Lapiron guide: Mining and Gathering via breeding in Palworld
Work skills:
- Handiwork Lvl. 3
- Gathering Lvl. 4
- Mining Lvl. 2
- Transporting Lvl. 1
Although you can only catch Lapiron around level 65 on the new Sky Islands south of Feybreak, it can still be quite handy in your base. Its skill spread is broad and especially useful for mining. The combination of Gathering and Handiwork also makes it practical for item production. We recommend breeding and hatching one earlier from several possible pairs. Sweepa and Quivern are a solid combo, for example.
Conclusion: Palworld 1.0 makes base work more efficient
Your Pals’ work in a base is crucial for keeping production running, and every Pal can handle multiple tasks. Version 1.0 raises work tiers to 10, giving you more flexibility and breathing room. You can now train, condense, and upgrade your Pals more deliberately. And with 70+ new Pals, there are fantastic new all‑rounders to find across Palpagos Island. Alongside stalwarts like Penking, Sootseer, or Beegarde, you can now catch base standouts such as Skutlass Ignis, Elgrove, and Majex.
