Buckets are an essential tool in Minecraft that many players don’t immediately think about. You probably use them to scoop up water or to load lava into a furnace as fuel. But buckets have a surprising number of functions that many players never discover. With new updates, this functionality keeps expanding. They’re a versatile tool for your world and can even be used to transport certain mobs. Even a simple water bucket can do more than you might expect. Most players will know the bucket recipe. Place three iron ingots in a V-shape to craft a bucket. It’s always worth keeping a few on hand. When they are empty, you can stack up to 16 in one inventory slot. Filled buckets, however, each take their own slot, which can quickly eat up space.

In general, a water bucket is always great to have. You can use it to scale steep cliffs and ride the current like an elevator. Or you can turn lava in caves into obsidian. Don’t forget you can also transport powder snow in a bucket. Head to your world’s mountain regions and right-click a powder snow block with an empty bucket. Alternatively, set up a cauldron in snowy weather to collect powder snow.
Powder snow is a deceptively dangerous block. Without leather boots you sink into it and can barely move. You’ll also start freezing and taking damage. This works on hostile mobs too, making powder snow a great trap.

You’ll only find axolotls in lush caves, swimming in the water. The only way to take them with you is to use a water bucket to pick them up. Fish in a bucket: cod, salmon, pufferfish, and tropical fish
You can catch cod and salmon with a water bucket and then release them elsewhere. Fish caught once won’t despawn, making them great decor. For three emeralds, you can get a bucket of cod from a fisherman villager.
You can also bucket pufferfish and tropical fish and place them so they don’t despawn. You can heal dolphins with raw cod or salmon. Tropical fish in a bucket are used to breed axolotls. Tropical fish also come in many colors and patterns.
Tadpoles in a bucket: breeding frogs and farming froglights
A water bucket is also the transport method for tadpoles, which is a key mechanic of this mob. Depending on which biome they grow up in, their color changes. There are temperate brown frogs, cold green frogs, and warm yellow frogs. Sulfur cube in a bucket: traits and uses
The newest mob you can carry in a bucket is the sulfur cube. You’ll find it in sulfur caves, and it’s passive. Collect some sulfur cubes in buckets and bring them back to your base. These yellow slimes can absorb blocks and take on their properties. With ice, for example, they become slippery; with wood, they turn into a real bouncy ball.
