Enshrouded’s skill tree is a complex web of many different options, which is exactly what makes the survival game so extensive and diverse. You can choose from twelve directions, combine them however you like and create a completely unique build. But some skills are far more important than others! We recommend them to pretty much every player who dares to venture into Embervale and wants to explore the region. They are still optional, but you should save the points for them. Some of these abilities can be unlocked right away, while others only become available as you progress. You can find an overview of all branches in our skill tree guide (Enshrouded Skill Tree Guide: All Skills, Builds, and Tips) .

1. Double Jump: The Most Important Skill for Exploring

Enshrouded Double Jump skill in the skill tree for 2 skill points

Probably the only skill you should never skip. Your first two points are meant for exactly this ability, which makes exploring the map much easier. Many segments of the game are designed with the assumption that you have the Double Jump. Without it you will hardly get anywhere, especially in the later parts of Enshrouded. The Double Jump does cost you a little stamina, but in return you can reach areas that are practically inaccessible with a normal jump.

2. Updraft: More Height with Your Glider

Enshrouded Updraft skill for the glider with charge and a cost of 100 mana

Updraft is another ability that pretty much everyone should have. You will find it between the Assassin and the Trickster, so you can use either branch. The skill itself costs four points. Updraft lets you press your jump key once during a flight with the glider to get a small boost in height. You can also increase the charge. Updraft uses 100 mana.

Gliders are generally an important part of Enshrouded, and the further you progress, the better versions you will find. They let you reach distant places and see the world from above. If Enshrouded and Embervale appeal to you too, why not rent your own Enshrouded server right away? There you can play solo or conquer the skies together with your friends.

Enshrouded Blink skill replaces the dodge roll with a short-range teleport

You will find the Blink skill at the bottom of the tree, between the branch for the Battlemage and the Healer. But this ability is not only good for mages, it can be useful for all players. It replaces your dodge roll with a short teleport for 4 points, but still consumes stamina. Some players may prefer the roll, but Blink has additional abilities that let you move once even while stunned.

4. Dessert Stomach: A Fourth Food Slot

Enshrouded Dessert Stomach skill in the Survivor branch for an additional food slot

Almost at the end of the Survivor branch in the skill tree you will find the ability “Dessert Stomach”. In Enshrouded you don’t eat to satisfy your hunger, but to gain additional buffs and abilities. And this is exactly where this skill comes into play. At the beginning you only have three slots for three different foods that make your character stronger. Later on this can be a bit limiting, which is why Dessert Stomach lets you unlock a fourth slot. We recommend using this ability sooner or later so you can eat a little more! You can find out which dishes are worth it in our cooking guide (Enshrouded Guide: Cooking, Recipes, and Food Buffs Explained) .

5. Runner: Run Faster with Less Stamina

Enshrouded Runner skill at level 3 with 15% more sprint speed

On the way to “Dessert Stomach” you also have to invest in the “Runner” skill. You can find it quite early in the Survivor tree, and you should use it. It is a simple ability, but it can make your life much easier. Per level you use 5% less sprint stamina and run 5% faster at the same time. So at maximum you get 15%. A small boost, but a very useful one!

6. Sneak Attack: Take Out Enemies with One Strike

Enshrouded Sneak Attack skill in the Assassin branch with 900% increased damage

In the Assassin section there are two more skills that are worth it for every player, regardless of the actual build. First, you can unlock Sneak Attack there. It can only be performed with melee weapons (wands, staves and bows are excluded), but it allows you to take out enemies quickly and easily. Attacks of this kind deal 900% damage and kill most enemies instantly. Super handy if you want to get rid of some of them first and then deal with tougher enemies.

7. Backstab Mastery: More Damage from Behind

Enshrouded Backstab Mastery skill with 60% more damage to the backs of enemies

Building on Sneak Attack, you should also invest directly in the Backstab Mastery ability. Per level it increases your damage to the backs of enemies by 20%, for a maximum of 60% more damage from behind. This always applies in combat and is independent of your weapon. We recommend relying less on lock-on and dancing around enemies so the damage bonus actually kicks in. An underrated skill that offers advantages for pretty much every build.

8. Airborne Architect: Build Freely in Fly Mode

Enshrouded 1.0 Airborne Architect skill for fly mode while building in your base

A new ability in version 1.0 that you will find right in the center of the tree. It lets you fly around in build mode independently of your body and build freely. If you don’t like building, this skill is of course less relevant. But for all master builders it is practically indispensable and makes constructing a beautiful base much easier.

9. Water Aura: Healing for You and Your Teammates

Enshrouded Water Aura skill heals you and injured teammates nearby

Let’s take another look at the Healer in the skill tree, because there is another exciting ability hidden here that can be useful for any character. You can unlock “Water Aura” here, a small spell that can heal you in combat. You are surrounded by an aura that heals your HP based on your Intelligence. In singleplayer just one point is enough, but in multiplayer you can increase the range to heal your teammates.

10. Weapon Special Attacks: Build Focus and Strike

Enshrouded bow, two-handed and wand specializations in the skill tree

Finally, we want to cover a few skills that are also fairly new. One of the recent updates added special attacks to Enshrouded that deal a lot of damage. However, you first have to unlock them with abilities, and they depend on your weapon.

We advise you to specialize in a few weapon types sooner or later and then unlock the corresponding skills. Through your actions you build up Focus (yellow bar at the bottom of the screen) and can then use it for a powerful special attack. Whether one-handed weapon, dagger, wand or bow, there is a matching skill for every type.

Conclusion: The Best Skills in Enshrouded for Every Build

With 212 skill points you naturally have a lot of choice in Enshrouded and can try out many different abilities during your adventure. However, we think these ten skills are good for pretty much every player and should always be used. Things like Double Jump, Dessert Stomach and Updraft are absolutely essential in our view. Other abilities such as Sneak Attack, Blink or Water Aura are more optional, but still extremely strong! If you are not happy with your choices, you can reset your skills for runes at the Flame Altar. You can find out exactly how that works in our Flame Altar guide (Enshrouded Flame Altar Guide: Strengthen the Flame, Upgrades, Shroud) .
