On September 22, 2026, Dune: Awakening launches for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A lot has changed on Arrakis since the PC release: PvP is optional, the Deep Desert can be explored as a PvE area, and a full single-player mode is being added. This makes it easier to get started if you want to head out without a big group. A private server is now worthwhile for solo players, not just clans: you can start alone and invite friends later.
Dune: Awakening console release – single-player and PvE/PvP changes
The console version includes the expansions and improvements added since the PC launch in June 2025. The major update for the console release has been available on PC since September 17. It brings, among other things, full single-player and the conclusion of Book One of the story. Console early access for Deluxe and Ultimate Edition owners also began on the same day.If you have not played since the first weeks, you will notice changes especially in progression. New missions, areas, and dynamic encounters give you more to do; specializations and augmentations expand character development. Bases and vehicles have been revised, as have controls, menus, and the onboarding. Combat, difficulty, and rewards have also been reworked.
For many returning players, the key change is that PvP is now optional. In the Deep Desert, separate PvE and PvP instances are available. Dune: Awakening character management and choosing where to play
The new user flow starts in the main menu with your character. Here you create and manage your characters and then choose the appropriate environment to continue playing. This puts your progression front and center at the start, rather than the server list.
Character transfers existed before the console release. What is new is the organization in the main menu, not the basic ability to transfer. The existing rules for moving between server types and game modes still apply.
Private server for solo players: start alone, continue together
With full single-player, you can experience Dune: Awakening on your own. A **private server** serves a different purpose: it gives you a place to progress independently while still being able to play with friends. You first build your own base. When someone joins later, you can set out together from there.Not everyone has to be online all the time. Maybe you have time during the week, while your friends only play on weekends. You can gather materials or keep building the base in the meantime. Your shared session picks up where you want to continue, without everyone’s progress waiting for the next evening when the whole group is free.
A rented server runs independently of your PC or console. Friends can use it even when you are offline. That is especially handy for small groups with different play times. Playing solo on a private server is still online play, though: you need a connection to the server. It is not the same as an offline single-player mode.
Server settings and customization on private Dune servers
If you mainly want to build after work, your needs differ from a group seeking the toughest fights. Expanded customization options help tailor the environment to those preferences. They are intended for private servers as well; which options you can actually use depends on the hosting provider’s implementation.
The key tools are the server settings available in your server management. Not every general game feature automatically appears at every host. Regardless, on a private server you organize your own player group and decide which shared projects to pursue. You do not need a large guild for that.
Private Dune: Awakening server – Hagga Basin and world structure
If you are coming from ARK or Conan Exiles, you should know Dune: Awakening’s server structure. A rented private server always includes its own **Hagga Basin**. Certain social areas and the **Deep Desert**, however, belong to a higher-level world structure and can be connected with other private servers.So you are not automatically renting all of Arrakis for exclusive use. In your own Hagga Basin you have a controlled area; in shared regions you can also meet players from other private servers. Your Hagga Basin settings also do not automatically apply there.
Filmic Archive DLC: 73 building pieces and outfits
The **Filmic Archive DLC** also launches on September 22. It includes cosmetic outfits from Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two, including the Caladan Stormcoat and the Aegis of the Unwalked Path armor.For builders, the 73-piece Sardaukar building set is the more interesting part of the package. It lets you bring the feared troops’ style to your own base. If your group spends a lot of time building on your server, this DLC gives you more variety than just new clothes for your characters.
Dune: Awakening cross-play – status and plans
PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players cannot play together across platforms at the console release. Cross-play will follow later; there is no specific date yet. A private server does not bypass this limitation. When planning your group, make sure you are on compatible platforms.
Polar Cap expansion: new region and content
The upcoming free Polar Cap expansion opens up an icy region on Arrakis. It adds further survival mechanics, stories, and building options. The expansion is planned for a later date and is not part of the console launch.
