The map of DayZ can be particularly overwhelming for new players, as there is something exciting to find at every corner. And you’ll certainly want to equip yourself with some of the best armor and weapons as soon as possible, so it’s not a bad idea to get a closer look at some locations on the map. However, expect other players to be there as well, looking for good loot. If you want to orientate yourself better, we recommend a map like iZurvive. But you’ll also find tourist maps in the game itself that should help you with your navigation. We have already discussed more about navigation in general in an older article (DayZ Navigation Guide: Mastering the Map) .
The Best Camping Bungalows for Outdoor Loot in DayZ

The map of DayZ would be a wonderful paradise for those who love outdoor activities. With zombies, it becomes a bit more complicated, but there are still many great locations you can visit and loot. Overall, there are eleven different summer camps with tents, bungalows, and other unique features. They’re not only nice to look at but also have very good loot that you should take with you. Particularly interesting are camping and hunting equipment like rifles, useful tools, or camouflage clothing.
These camps are particularly worthwhile:
Arsenyevo (also has military buildings and medical station)
Metallurgist (a nice view of the large dam)
Pobeda (large and with good loot)
Svyato-Romanovsky Ski Resort (the only ski region with a great environment and many huts)
Visit Historical Castles and Fortresses for Unique DayZ Loot

You can also find castles in Chernarus. They are often just ruins, but they make DayZ and its setting unique. In what other survival title can you build your base in a medieval castle?
Currently, there are nine castles on the map, and you’ll probably see them from afar. They were built on high mountains to have a good view over the valley. There’s not necessarily one castle superior to another. Besides regular weapons, you’ll also find some ancient items like chainmail or even knight swords.
Loot in DayZ: Locations of Exciting Crash Sites

Not everything is still in great order in DayZ, and sometimes you’ll stumble upon places during your journey through Chernarus where an accident has occurred. In most cases, these are helicopters that have crashed and hold good loot for you. But you can also find complete airplanes, military vehicle accidents, train wrecks, or police operations. During Christmas time, you can also find Santa’s sled and unique clothing items.
Military Bases: The Best Weapons and Armor in DayZ

The various military bases you can find in the world of DayZ are significantly more exciting and filled with extremely good loot. Here you can find not only the best weapons but also the best armor! However, this makes these locations very popular with players, so you need to be really careful. Sooner or later, you should visit them to have a chance at good loot. In total, there are seven larger camps to be found, scattered across the map. Primarily, you’ll find them in the west or north.
Explore DayZ: Big Cities for Maximum Loot

As long as you stay on the main roads, you’ll come across a settlement. Chernarus is dotted with countless small villages and towns, but much more interesting are, of course, the big cities, which contain many residential buildings and are often a meeting point for players. They are a big risk but also give you the best loot. Here you’ll find not only lots of houses but also special buildings like hospitals, fire stations, or police stations. And these give you some of the best things you need for your adventure in DayZ.
We recommend going both to the southern coast to Chernogorsk and to the north to Novodmitrovsk. The two big cities are not only full of loot but also great to explore. If you’re still relatively new, Chernogorsk is probably a good first stop for you to improve your gear. But watch out for other players as well, because cities are very dangerous. You never know where a sniper might be sitting and could take you out without your knowledge. But the risk is definitely worth it!
Storozh Prison Island: A DayZ Adventure on an Isolated Island

A very specific place we want to give you is the Storozh Prison Island in the south of the country. In fact, this building was once one of the castles but was then converted into a prison due to its isolated location. The way to the island is not exactly easy either, as you have to swim and make yourself vulnerable to attacks. But since Storozh is the only prison, it’s definitely something you must see in DayZ.
Airfields: Exciting DayZ Action and Top-Notch Loot

The most coveted places in all of DayZ are airfields. There are only three of them, and they are an important venue for player encounters. The airfields are so popular because there is very good loot here, and the military has set up its camps. While Balota in the south and Krasnostav in the north are not so difficult, you should prepare for intense gameplay at Vybor!
If you’ve mastered Vybor, you’re probably prepared for all further encounters in DayZ! We definitely recommend not going in blindly or running wildly across the runway, becoming an easy target for snipers. The area around the airfield is huge, so you should take your time to explore everything thoroughly.
Contaminated Zones: High Risk and Rewarding Loot in DayZ

Finally, you can also venture into the contaminated zones. Permanently, these include the aforementioned Pavlovo military base and the Rify shipwreck in the north. Both are surrounded by a suffocating gas cloud, which you should only explore with the appropriate equipment. So, wear a complete NBC suit beforehand.
Additionally, contaminated zones can dynamically appear on the map but disappear after some time. Almost all of the places mentioned here are part of it. They occur approximately every 15 minutes and often dissolve after just a few minutes. But they can come unexpectedly, and you should quickly leave the zone.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for good loot or just want to visit the coolest places on the map, we hope our list helps you. There are really many interesting places to see in Chernarus, and you should feel free to visit some of these locations. Rent one of our DayZ servers and explore the vastness of Chernarus with your friends. The more dangerous the place, the better the loot you’ll find!
