Sons of the Forest Artifact: All 7 Parts, Locations & Functions

Sons of the Forest Artifact: All 7 Parts, Locations & Functions

Just like its predecessor The Forest, Sons of the Forest hides several secrets that reward long-term players and permanent island residents with cool gadgets. One of them is the rare artifact, which you first have to assemble from seven small parts. It’s designed for players who have not only explored the entire map but also finished the story and decided to remain on the island. It’s worth the effort: the functions are genuinely useful if you plan to keep playing. With our guide you’ll not only find and assemble all seven parts, but also master the artifact itself!

Artifact parts in Sons of the Forest: All locations on the map

To craft the artifact, you must first collect the matching parts. You may have spotted some of them during your cave runs, but a few are much harder to find than others. You need to have finished the story for the last piece—more on that in the next section.

Location 1: Northern beach cave – Stun Gun and artifact part

This artifact part is fairly easy to find and you may already have it. If not, head back to the cave on the northern beach where you also find the rebreather. Keep to the right and follow the cave deeper in. You’ll find not only the Stun Gun but also the artifact part. You’ll recognize it immediately: it rests on a golden altar, and your character picks it up with a special animation.

Location 2: Zipline cave – Rope Gun section

Next, return to the cave where you found the Rope Gun (Zipline Gun). If you’ve fully explored this cave before, the artifact part is hard to miss. Follow the ropes further down and keep to the right-hand side to find the artifact shortly after. Once you see hanging skeletons and golden decorations on the wall, you’re on the right track!

Location 3: Ancient Armor cave – Western entrance (Part 1)

You’ll find the next two artifact parts in the same cave where you can get Ancient Armor. This cave runs across the center of the map beneath the large mountain. There are several entrances and it’s the longest, largest cave in the entire game.

For the first part, use the entrance on the west side of the mountain, near the lake made of two circular pools. The cave is quite linear, so you can’t go too wrong. Dive through several sections and slide down deeper until you see the familiar golden markings. Once you reach a large chamber full of gold, follow the faint light. Eventually you’ll arrive at a crashed spaceship. The part is in the pilot’s hand, just like the Ancient Armor.

Location 4: Ancient Armor cave – Further section (Part 2)

After finding the first part in this cave, climb the spiral staircase up from the spaceship and continue through the cave, climbing several ropes. Again, the path is linear and will lead you straight to the artifact part. Golden decorations mark the way. Look for a narrow stone path. The artifact is set into the floor inside a square of gold.

Location 5: Pickaxe cave – Solafite and artifact part

The cave with the pickaxe and Solafite is located below the golf course, at the lower of the two small ponds connected by a stream. A rope lets you descend into the cave. Follow the waterfall on the right and swim through a few sections. From time to time you’ll need to break through wooden planks, then you should spot the characteristic golden bars again. The artifact is once more embedded in the floor, framed by gold.

Location 6: Northeastern beach – Hidden fisher’s hut

Walk along the beach east of the golf course until you see a fisher’s hut with two armchairs. Inside, you’ll find a hidden entrance to the cave with the last artifact part you can get before finishing the story. Follow the cellar passage blocked by wooden boards. Eventually, you’ll come across golden crosses and skeletons pointing the way. The artifact is just one rope descent away, on an altar surrounded by gilded skeletons.

Location 7: Final artifact after the ending – Stay on the island

Beams of light show the way to the last artifact in Sons of the Forest after the finale

After the final boss fight, you can choose to stay on the island or leave. Pick up your backpack and stay. You’ll then see beams of light in the sky pointing you to the last artifact. The entrance to this cave is on the east side, not far from the pickaxe cave. It simply spirals downward like a staircase. Break a few planks and at the bottom you’ll find the final artifact part.

Using the artifact in Sons of the Forest: Functions, modes and Solafite charge

Assemble the artifact and charge it with Solafite in Sons of the Forest

After you’ve found all seven parts, you can assemble them in your inventory. The artifact is now ready to use! You’ll need to charge it with Solafite ore to operate it. You can tell how full it is by the red bars that appear when you hold it. When you look at the ground with the artifact equipped, you can switch modes and unlock different uses.

Artifact modes: Teleport, Gilding, Attract Shrine and Repel Shrine in Sons of the Forest

Basically, you can use the artifact for 4 functions:

  • Gild structures: When the artifact “opens its wings” and a blue beam appears, you can gild structures and furniture. They don’t just look great—they also withstand significantly more damage.
  • Teleport: First activate a teleporter with the blue beam, then switch the artifact to sphere mode and teleport back to that teleporter. This works anywhere on the map, even in caves and bunkers. Each use costs one Solafite.
  • Attract Shrine: Use the artifact to activate this structure and lure cannibals and mutants to you. While active, it generates Solafite. It’s risky, but the rewards are substantial.
  • Repel Shrine: Build this shrine to actively repel enemies. In addition to the artifact, you need 6× Solafite ore to activate it. It consumes one piece every 3:20 minutes, giving you 20 minutes of protection.

Practical tips for efficient artifact use

  • Save Solafite for Teleport jumps and critical moments in caves.
  • Mark bases and key locations with teleport points before delving deep underground.
  • Use Gilding strategically on load-bearing walls, doors and defensive structures to toughen your base.
  • Activate the Repel Shrine ahead of major assaults; combine it with traps for maximum safety.

Conclusion

Sons of the Forest is especially rewarding after you finish the story, because that’s when you gain access to powerful tools like the artifact. This golden orb lets you teleport across the map, lure or repel enemies, and even produce Solafite. And if you want to upgrade your base, take advantage of its ability to gild furniture and walls.
