There’s already a lot to discover in Hytale, even in Early Access! And to get all the important resources, you’ll need to travel across all the different zones of Orbis. From green meadows and chilly regions to deserts and volcanic islands, Hytale already offers a varied world. Over the course of release, more zones and a more sophisticated version of world generation are planned, so this list isn’t final. Nevertheless, we’ll take a closer look at the first four zones—what you can find there and where to locate specific resources.

Hytale Zone 1 Emerald Wilds: Biomes, ores, and mobs

Hytale Zone 1 Emerald Wilds with meadows, forests, and early-game resources

The emerald wilderness is where you spawn first. You’ll find wide, green meadows and dense forests where you can get familiar with the basics of Hytale. Resources are easy to find and there are few threats. You should build a small starter base here, as this zone sits at the center of all the others and is the best launch point for adventures.

  • Biomes: You’ll find wide, treeless plains as well as mixed forests with various tree species. There are also colorful autumn forests that are truly beautiful. Scattered throughout are marble plateaus and steep mountains where you can find ores. Deep in the forests, there are also swamps. A special highlight is the Azure region, with its blue trees.

  • Wood types: You can find Oak, Beech, Birch, Maple, Ash, Azure, and Aspen, making this the zone with the greatest variety of trees.

  • Animals: You’ll encounter most friendly animals here—from pigs, chickens, and sheep to wild boar, foxes, turkeys, and rabbits. You can also find horses to ride. The Emerald Wilds are full of wildlife, and you can even capture some animals.

  • Enemies: Not all creatures are friendly, though. Watch out for spiders, bears, snakes, and wolves. Among monsters, you’ll fight skeletons, swamp monsters, and orcs.

  • Ores: You’ll mostly find copper here, and occasionally iron. Very rarely, you can come across veins of thorium.

Hytale Zone 2 Howling Sands: Desert, biomes, ores, and enemies

Hytale Zone 2 Howling Sands with sand dunes, oases, and dangerous insects

Head south from the green forests and you’ll reach a vast desert, also divided into several subregions. Vegetation is sparse and monsters are much more aggressive, so be careful. The insects here, in particular, are not easy to deal with.

  • Biomes: In addition to wide sand deserts and dunes, you’ll find mesa canyons. Scattered throughout are savannas with trees and oases. Particularly treacherous are the insect nests, which leave large craters.

  • Wood types: You can actually find a few trees in the desert that you should harvest, including Palm, Gumboab, Dry, Bottletree, and Palo. The trees are sparse but appear across most sub-biomes.

  • Animals: Some animals have made the desert their home, and you can watch them—or hunt them for meat and leather. There are camels, armadillos, and lizards, as well as meerkats and antelopes.

  • Enemies: The desert is also home to nasty insects and other threats. Watch out for snakes, scorpions, and flying insects. The caves are overrun with creepy-crawlies. Other land animals are hostile too, including hyenas and saber-toothed tigers.

  • Ores: You’ll find all the common ores here, such as iron, but most importantly there’s an abundance of thorium underground.

Hytale Zone 3 Whisperfrost Frontiers: Ice biomes, ores, and creatures

Hytale Zone 3 Whisperfrost Frontiers with taiga, tundra, and frozen lakes

If you’re drawn to the cold, the frosty lands of the Whisperfrost Frontiers in the north are the right choice. Here, taiga and tundra blend into deep, snow-covered forests. There are also frozen waters, which are easier to traverse. Along the high mountains, you can find plenty of ores if you’re inclined.

  • Biomes: Hytale’s winter regions are diverse and quite broad. You’ll find vast, barren tundra as well as densely wooded taiga forests. Towering mountains rise up between them, perfect for any mountaineer. There are also huge ice fields and caves. Particularly interesting are the ice seas, with their floes and slick surfaces.

  • Wood types: Currently, there are three wood types here: Redwood, Fir, and Cedar.

  • Animals: The cold landscape doesn’t stop bison, moose, and mountain goats from settling here. Along the waters you’ll also find polar bears and penguins.

  • Enemies: In addition to bears and polar bears, you should definitely watch out for the Yeti in the mountains. You’ll also encounter Outlanders in camps who have taken advantage of the cold.

  • Ores: Both in the mountains and underground, there’s plenty of gold, silver, and especially blue cobalt.

Hytale Zone 4 Devastated Lands: Lava biomes, rare ores, and enemies

Hytale Zone 4 Devastated Lands with lava flows, ash fields, and hidden jungle

Venture to the edge of the main island and you’ll see huge lavafalls. That’s where the Devastated Lands lie—a region full of destruction without a single green patch, at least on the surface. The land is scarred by lava flows and black soil, with hardly any real life in sight. But if you descend into the depths, you might encounter a jungle.

  • Biomes: Most biomes in this zone blend into each other, yet there’s still plenty of variety—from ash fields and basalt deltas to lava-laced landscapes. Sometimes you can even discover forests. Underground, you’ll find a lush jungle.

  • Wood types: Surprisingly, this lava zone offers quite a few wood types. You can find Burned, Ash, Fire, Petrified, Poison, Bamboo, Tropical, and Sallow. Some are only accessible by delving into deep caves, where a surprisingly lush green paradise awaits.

  • Animals: Not many animals call this zone home, but you’ll still find a few, including undead pigs and cows, as well as magma snails.

  • Enemies: There’s an abundance of monsters and other creatures here, making this zone especially dangerous. Beware of powerful skeletons, wolves, and skeletal horses. The nasty toads from the depths can also be found here on the surface. In the jungle, dinosaurs await you.

  • Ores: In these devastated landscapes, you’ll find Adamantite, which is better than cobalt and thorium.

Hytale zones summary: Finding resources and traveling safely

Even if you build a cozy base in the first zone, standing still isn’t an option in Hytale. Many resources—especially rare ores—are tied to other zones. Sooner or later you’ll have to go on an expedition and face the other biomes. We recommend progressing through these zones in order so you’re properly equipped.
