Set colors for foundations and walls in Satisfactory

Most foundations and concrete walls start out grey, but you don’t have to leave them that way. In the shop you can buy color palettes or create your own by picking custom colors in the build menu. You can not only paint after the fact, but also predefine which building piece should use which color.
When working with color, stick to one to three primary colors. A bit of basic color theory helps to see which tones complement each other. Ultimately it’s up to you, but colorful factories often look especially stylish.
Add depth in Satisfactory: structure and accent your walls

One of the biggest issues when expanding factories is thinking only in a single plane. A wall doesn’t have to be flat. If you look at real buildings, you’ll quickly notice how much depth makes them stand out.
Avoid building only flat walls—break them up with pillars, protruding foundations, or inset windows. This gives your factory more structure and a more refined look. Also play with different colors to create accents.
Plan interiors and exterior walls separately in Satisfactory
Stop using your interior walls as your exterior walls. You can work much more flexibly so your rooms look great both inside and out. It’s best to start with the interior: plan your machines and conveyor layout first, then surround them with interior walls. If you want a different exterior design, build a second wall and decorate it from the outside. This ensures your building looks polished from both sides.
Textures and materials in Satisfactory: concrete, steel, and more
Browsing the AWESOME Shop, you’ll find different material variants for your building pieces. So you can play not just with color, but also with the surface and feel of the walls themselves.
Currently you can choose between FICSIT walls, concrete, and steel. Within these categories there’s further variety—different foundations, windows, doors, and surface finishes. The same applies to other pieces such as pillars, roofs, and railings. Mix materials and colors to create contrast and highlights.
Use Nudge in Satisfactory: precise placement and clipping

One of the best building tools is the Nudge feature, which lets you move pieces in smaller increments. They’re no longer snapped strictly to the world grid and can be positioned more freely. This is incredibly helpful for cleanly adding detail. Enable Nudge by pressing H.
Many players use this to hide pieces inside others or combine them—known as clipping. It’s technically unintended, but it can unlock very cool effects and possibilities. The tool can be a bit finicky, but you’ll achieve far more than with the standard build mode.
Satisfactory lighting: daylight, lamps, and signs

Lighting is one of the final key elements—you don’t want to work in the dark. You have three ways to light your factory: natural daylight, dedicated lamps, or signs.
Daylight is perfect for open factories lined with windows. There’s plenty of choice and you can place them however you like. Different window shapes give your factory a unique look. Pay attention to where the sun rises and how the light falls into the room.
You can also buy lights and lamps in the AWESOME Shop. There are four types:
- Ceiling lights
- Wall lights
- Street lamps
- Floodlights
If you also pick up a Light Control Panel, you can group and control them centrally. Even without it, you can set each light’s color and intensity individually or enable a night mode. Keep in mind that lights draw power and can slightly impact performance.
Your third option is signs, which you can also buy in the shop. They come in various sizes and shapes and are normally used for labeling. But you can remove text and background and enable emission so they cast light. This gives you more color options than regular lamps and lets you work more creatively. Signs also move more easily with Nudge and can be hidden behind walls. Think of them as a kind of neon light.
Conclusion: Building an aesthetic Satisfactory factory
To give your factory that final polish and avoid the boring box look, keep a few design tips in mind. Small details go a long way. Work with depth so your factory stands out. Colored pieces make great accents, and lighting makes a huge difference—glowing signs are a great pro tip. In Satisfactory you don’t always have to be purely practical; you can build the factory of your dreams.
