In Palworld, you can hunt down over 150 different monsters and use them for combat, work, or breeding. But right at the beginning you can only find and deploy certain Pals, and you’ll also want to decide which ones to focus on. Having the right monsters at your side can simplify early tasks and support you with extra abilities. In the end, weigh your playstyle and pick the Pals that fit you best. Do you prefer fighting? Building a base? Or exploring? The right partners are essential!

Best starter Pals in Palworld

Cattiva: Top transport and gathering Pal for the start

Cattiva is arguably Palworld’s indirect mascot and one of the first monsters you’ll encounter. You’ll find this pink, catlike creature in the starting area in abundance, so catch several and put them to work. It can handle Gathering, Mining, and general Handiwork. Its biggest perk is Transporting, as its Partner Skill gives you +50 carry weight. It’s not great in combat, but it’s an excellent worker.

Foxparks: Fire Pal for early combat and crafting

Catch Foxparks, the flame-lit red fox, for different reasons. As a worker it provides Kindling, an essential ability to power some of your first workstations with fire. Use Foxparks to fuel campfires or furnaces. It also shines in your early fights, as with the right gear it turns into a living flamethrower. Plus, it can keep you warm when you’re cold.

Lifmunk: Gardening, healing potions, and strong base support

For your first gardening efforts, grab this little green monster. Lifmunk appears all over the starting area, so it’s easy to find. Thanks to its versatile work skills, it’s perfect for your first base, primarily for planting and harvesting fields. Lifmunk specializes in Medicine Production for healing potions, making breeding worthwhile as well. In combat, it can summon a pistol and perch on your head.

Daedream: Nocturnal fighter with powerful turret support

Daedream is a nocturnal Pal you should definitely catch. Stay up until nightfall and comb the starting area to find it. Daedream is a particularly strong early-game fighter, with solid stats and attacks. Even without direct fighting, it can run beside you and provide cover with turrets. Its attacks also focus on close range, making your first battles even easier.

Chillet: Early mount with Ice and Dragon damage

Chillet is a blue ferret adapted to the water. With its Ice and Dragon typing, it’s quite unique and a fantastic Pal for your starter team. It’s very handy in combat, especially when you ride it. It’s one of the earliest Pals you can use for overland travel. Unlock its saddle at Technology level 13 and ride it across Palpagos Island. While mounted, your attacks gain extra Dragon damage.

Dinossom: AoE damage and plant power for your team

If you want even more punch in battle, Dinossom is one of your best partners. It’s fairly easy to find early on and fits perfectly into your team. Its attacks deal high damage and hit enemies in an area. Later, you can ride Dinossom too, but you only unlock the saddle at Technology level 19. Mounted attacks boost the Grass-type damage. As a worker it can Plant and Lumber, both at Level 2.

Vixy: Spheres, gold, and arrows for your ranch

You’ll also find Vixy in the starting area, but only during the day and a bit rarer than other Pals. Grab one early and put it in a gathering ranch, as it can find Pal Spheres for you. It can also dig up gold and arrows, making it a well-rounded helper on your ranch. It’s not great in combat, but it excels at finding spheres. And those are important, because we recommend catching as many Pals as possible. 12 of each Pal grants you an XP bonus.

Tanzee: Versatile all-rounder for gathering and combat

Like Cattiva, Tanzee is one of the best all-rounders early in Palworld. The green monkey is common both day and night and supports you with a broad set of skills. It can Gather, Lumber, do Handiwork, Plant, and Transport. That covers nearly all crucial tasks for your first base. And in combat, Tanzee isn’t bad either, as it can summon a machine gun.

Tombat: Dark night worker focused on ore and transport

Tombat is a nocturnal bat of the Dark type and a great upgrade for your team. It’s slightly stronger than most other Pals in its region, making it excellent for combat. It’s also valuable at your base, with Level 2 Gathering, Mining, and Transporting. That lets you, for example, find rarer ores and handle tougher jobs. Tombat works at night as well. Thanks to its ultrasonic ability, it can scan for nearby Pals on command.

Eikthyrdeer: Fast mount with double jump and Lumbering Lv. 2

The majestic Eikthyrdeer is not the easiest to find and catch, but it’s worth keeping an eye out for the purple deer. From Technology level 12 you can unlock its saddle and ride it across the island. It’s one of the best mounts, capable of a double jump. With its ram attack and Lumbering Lv. 2, you can turn forests into scrap wood in seconds. In combat, this is also useful for weakening Pals to capture them.

Conclusion: The best Pals for your perfect start in Palworld

In Palworld, you should catch many different Pals and use them as diversely as possible. Cattiva, Lifmunk, or Tanzee help you build your base, craft items, and work your fields. Meanwhile, Pals like Daedream, Foxparks, or Tombat are excellent fighters. For overland travel, we recommend Eikthyrdeer or Chillet.
