Resin was added to Minecraft with “The Garden Awakens” in version 1.21.4 and is a building block many players underestimate—partly because it’s quite rare and only found in a specific biome. Despite that, resin has a vivid, punchy orange hue that’s fantastic for building, making it worth automating. Resin can be made renewable in a unique way that takes a bit more setup. We’ll walk through the mechanics and show you how to build a farm.

Minecraft resin: where to find it, the Creaking, and drop sources

Finding Minecraft resin in the Pale Oak Forest with a Creaking

Like in real life, resin can be found on trees. But not every tree type in Minecraft yields resin, which makes things trickier. You need to locate a Pale Oak Forest, because that’s the only place you’ll find orange resin. These eerie, spooky woods are a sub-biome of the Dark Oak Forest and are filled with grayish pale oaks you can hardly miss. The sky also turns gray-white when you’re there. Depending on the seed, they can be tiny or cover a large portion of a Dark Oak Forest. You can obtain resin in several ways, which come with some fun mechanics:

  • Break a Creaking Heart to get 1 to 3 resin clumps. With Silk Touch, you can harvest the Creaking Heart itself.
  • Resin clumps can be found in Woodland Mansion chests, usually 2 to 4.
  • Resin is automatically produced on pale oak logs when you hit a Creaking.

As you can see, resin is hard to get in bulk without an automatic farm. Depending on the biome size, there’s only a limited number of Creaking Hearts available in trees. This is especially problematic in Peaceful mode, where you can’t spawn the Creaking. If you want to produce resin, you’ll have to face the Creaking.

Resin uses and crafting resin bricks in Minecraft

So why farm resin at all? As mentioned, it’s an excellent building block. Its rich, saturated orange color stands out in almost any build.

And it’s surprisingly versatile:

  • Craft a resin block from 9 clumps.
  • Use a resin block to craft Creaking Hearts (more on that later).
  • Smelt resin in a furnace to get resin bricks.
  • Turn resin bricks into resin brick blocks, and then into slabs, stairs, and walls. You can also use the stonecutter.
  • Get a chiseled resin brick with the Creaking’s face by combining two slabs.
  • Use individual bricks to trim your armor with orange accents.

Automatic resin farm in Minecraft: materials, Redstone, and build guide

Resin and its many uses are perfect for players who love bold colors and want an orange building block. A farm is absolutely worth it. As explained above, resin is only renewable via the Creaking, which means playing with hostile mobs. The good news is you can summon it yourself and put it to work.

There are different ways to build a resin farm, but the core mechanic is the same. You summon a Creaking with a Creaking Heart, then hit it so it produces resin. With pistons you move the logs, which shake off the resin, and then you collect it. Our design is expandable, making it practical to scale up your farm.

Materials:

  • Chest and hopper
  • Several stacks of building blocks
  • 64 slabs
  • 16 fences
  • 2 observers
  • 1 sticky piston
  • 1 Redstone repeater
  • 2 redstone dust
  • 4 buttons
  • 4 buckets of water
  • 2 pale oak logs
  • 1 Creaking Heart

Step 1: Collection basin and item transport

To collect the resin, start by building a collection basin. We recommend building the farm in the air to better control the Creaking’s spawn behavior. About 30 blocks above ground is enough.

Place the chest with a hopper on top, where the resin will end up. At the hopper’s height, build five blocks out in every direction, then raise the outer ring by one block. Fill the corners with water so items flow to the center.

Step 2: Summon the Creaking with a Creaking Heart and start resin production

Leave two blocks of air above the hopper, then place the Creaking Heart between two pale oak logs. These are the conditions under which the Creaking can spawn at night. The farm therefore only works at night. Keep that in mind.

Tip: Build the farm during the day or in Peaceful mode so the Creaking won’t immediately attack you.

The Redstone is straightforward. Place the piston behind the lower log. Put the two observers to the left and right to detect resin forming. To power the piston, place two solid blocks behind the observers and a Redstone repeater behind the piston. Put redstone dust behind each solid block, and place another solid block between them and the repeater. This briefly moves the log, shakes off the resin, and washes it into the collection basin.

Step 3: Creaking safety, spawn platform, and anti-spawn measures

Spawn platform safety with slabs and fences in the resin farm

To make sure the Creaking spawns correctly and you can collect the resin, set up a few final precautions:

  • Place four buttons on the upper log so resin only forms on the lower log, where the observers can see it.
  • Line the outer wall of the water basin with slabs so the Creaking can’t spawn there.
  • Build a small platform with fences on one side where the Creaking will appear.

Once it’s night, the Creaking should spawn on the platform (except in Peaceful mode). As long as you look at it, it won’t attack or move. Punch it every five seconds with your fist to produce resin. The observers and piston will trigger automatically and knock the resin off. You can’t kill the Creaking; it despawns at daylight or when you break its Creaking Heart.

Expandable automatic resin farm in Minecraft at night

That’s your automatic farm done. You can expand it by repeating the core layout from Step 2 and adjusting the water basin accordingly. The more Creakings you run, the harder they become to keep an eye on. Also remember they only spawn at night.

Conclusion: Farm resin and use resin bricks in your builds

Resin is an underrated building block that isn’t easy to find. You’ll need to visit one of the new biomes and deal with the intimidating Creaking. But an automatic farm is simpler than you’d think, because resin forms when you hit the Creaking. Let a piston knock the resin off automatically, and you can farm it with little effort.

Rent one of our Minecraft servers and start your automatic resin farm right away. You’ll unlock unique blocks for your builds and give them a rich orange accent.
