Hytale Update 3: Flamethrower, Sickle, and Animal Taming | All new features and tips

Hytale Update 3: Flamethrower, Sickle, and Animal Taming | All new features and tips

After just under a month, Hytale has already received its third major update. It’s clear the developers are hard at work, refining existing features and getting the most out of them. They’re also listening to community feedback, with many changes players have asked for since release. From grass spreading to animal taming, Update 3 packs plenty of surprises. We’ll take a closer look at the biggest additions and how to find them in-game.

Hytale animal taming and capturing: guide

Hytale taming animals and luring them with favorite food

Animal husbandry in Hytale could certainly use more updates, but this is a solid first step toward keeping livestock. You can now lure many different creatures with their favorite food and befriend them. When you try to tame them, they’ll show you which food they want with a speech bubble above their head. Breeding animals isn’t possible yet, but that will likely follow soon.

Benefits of tamed animals:

  • can be lured with their favorite food
  • are easier to pen in and won’t run away
  • can be petted
  • will greet you now and then as you walk by
  • produce resources like eggs, milk, or wool (even when untamed, but it’s easier when they are)

Hytale map: set and share your own markers

The in-game map also received an update. Not only were several icons reworked, you can now add your own symbols, give them names, and assign a fitting color. Mark interesting locations directly and tell them apart more easily. You can also share points with other players on a server or delete them later.

Hytale sickle: harvest fields faster

Hytale sickle for quickly harvesting large fields

To speed up your harvest, Hytale now includes the right tool. The Farmer’s Workbench offers a recipe for the sickle, which you can swing in a wide arc. This lets you harvest multiple crops at once. That’s handy and saves a lot of time on large fields, since pulling each veggie one by one takes ages. For now there’s only a basic sickle, but upgrades with greater durability will likely follow.

Hytale flamethrower in Creative mode: fire mechanics tested

In Creative mode, you’ll now find a flamethrower—an impressive weapon that can also deal devastating damage. Flames spread extremely quickly, and once a forest catches fire, it’s hard to stop. No surprise the flamethrower is currently limited to Creative.

A neat detail: fire turns normal logs into charred logs. Later on, you won’t need to head to Zone 4 to get them. The blackened wood is great for building. We’ll see when the flamethrower makes it into Survival.

Hytale grass spread: dirt gets overgrown again

Hytale grass growth automatically overgrows dirt

Another frequent request: dirt becoming overgrown with grass. Previously you could craft grass blocks from dirt and fibers, but that was pretty tedious. From now on, dirt will grow over again—just like in Minecraft. It’s much quicker and prevents unsightly dirt patches that you had to manually cover or replace. The system doesn’t seem to work with every grass type yet, but those bugs will likely be fixed.

Hytale ropes: better climbing and movement

Rope climbing has been overhauled and greatly expanded. It could now be a real alternative to stairs or ladders, freeing up space in your base. You can stop mid-rope, jump off, climb faster, and even rotate 360 degrees. That gives you far more freedom of movement and makes ropes a great tool in your arsenal—for example, in caves to cross steep chasms more easily.

Hytale character customization and saving presets

The main menu also brings a few changes. As in the previous update, there are new customization options for your character, including new hairstyles, shoes, faces, and beards. You can now save five presets and recall them later. If you usually play solo, you can easily switch to a different skin for multiplayer. The number of slots may expand to 10 or more.

Hytale Update 3 highlights and quality of life

Those are just the biggest changes—there are plenty of smaller tweaks you’ll notice while playing. You can read the full patch notes on the official site. To wrap up, here are a few improvements we think are especially relevant and will make many players happy.

  • Bows and crossbows can now use arrows from your backpack. That frees up a slot in your main inventory.
  • Summoning undead has been improved: they no longer damage you, and there are rangers as well.
  • Better inventory management with keybinds for stashing and sorting.
  • Several workbench tweaks. For example, the chicken coop tier was reduced from 5 to 3. Crafting times were adjusted too.
  • Dough is easier to craft without wasting too much water. Craft cups that don’t deplete water sources.
  • A few new stone blocks (limestone) and updated ore textures, especially cobalt.
  • Adjustments to enemy spawns across various zones and locations.
  • New oven model for both tiers.
  • General performance and systems improvements.
