In Hytale, you’re not just chasing your own goals — the game gives you extra motivation through optional systems. One of the best is collecting Memories for the Forgotten Temple, which earns you great rewards. Along the way you’ll encounter every creature in the game at least once and be pushed to explore every corner of the map. It’s also a perfect way to check whether you’ve missed anything, because Hytale is full of surprises! Today we’ll look closely at Memories: how to unlock them, fill them in, and which rewards you can expect.

Unlocking Hytale Memories in the Forgotten Temple

Hytale Forgotten Temple and portal to the Heart of Orbis

When you create a new world in Hytale, you can’t collect Memories right away. First, you need to reach the Forgotten Temple and step through the portal to arrive at the “Heart of Orbis.” You can defeat the Golem or simply ignore it and pass through the portal. The Heart is the statue in the center of the world — make sure to interact with it. After that, you can collect Memories in the overworld.

You collect Memories by being near a creature. That includes animals like sheep or rabbits, as well as monsters such as skeletons or the golem guarding the portal. In short, anything that lives can be recorded. You’ll see a small notification each time you obtain a new Memory. They’re stored in your inventory, in the second tab below the crafting recipes and above the backpack. You can carry up to 48 Memories; after that, you must return to the statue to submit them.

In total there are 241 Memories to collect (as of Update 3). However, not all are currently available in the game — right now you can collect 219 Memories. These cover a wide range of animals, monsters, and other creatures. So why hunt them down?

Hytale Memories: Tips for every species

Discover Hytale creatures and species to complete all Memories

Collecting all 219 currently available Memories is no small feat. The first few hours are easy enough, but later entries can be much harder to find. For example, you can already obtain 10 Memories in the Forgotten Temple world by tracking down its local creatures. That’s an easy way to claim your first reward.

As you explore further, you’ll naturally uncover more Memories — though some creatures are well hidden or extremely rare. Here are tips for all 18 species to help you complete the list:

  • Abyssal: Aquatic creatures like eels lurking in the ocean depths.
  • Avian: Birds across all biomes; often hard to reach. Climb high peaks or wait for them to land.
  • Critter: Small creatures such as mice, snakes, and frogs. Generally easy to find.
  • Elemental: Includes golems from forgotten temples and some smaller elemental mobs. A few are not yet available.
  • Feran: Fox-like beings you can encounter in the desert.
  • Freshwater: Dive underwater to find fish. Check coastal areas in every biome for aquatic life, including jellyfish.
  • Goblin: Frequently spawn in caves, often behind you. Also found in Goblin Lairs in Zone 1.
  • Kweebec: The adorable residents of Orbis, found in their villages in Zone 1.
  • Livestock: One of the largest groups, mainly farm animals and other common mobs. Remember that baby animals count too.
  • Mythic: Very rare monsters — currently Yeti and Ice Dragon in Zone 3, and Emberwulf and Wraith in Zone 4.
  • Outlander: Easy to encounter if you attack Outlander camps in Zone 3.
  • Predator: Natural predators that attack you, including bears and wolves.
  • Reptile: A mix of reptiles — some from deserts, others from jungle caves in Zone 4. Also includes nasty toads with long tongues.
  • Scarak: Nasty insects from Zone 2; some are currently bugged.
  • Trork: Large trolls found in their camps in Zone 1.
  • Undead: The largest monster group, mainly skeletons of all kinds. Each zone has several variants (Burnt, Sandswept, Incandescent, Frost), which is why there are so many Memories here.
  • Voidspawn: Night-spawning monsters that drop Essence of Void.
  • Voidtaken: Currently only one mob, not yet available in Exploration Mode.

Conclusion: Collect Hytale Memories and unlock features

Memories in Hytale are a great incentive to explore every nook and cranny of Orbis. With 219 available creatures right now, you’ll travel far to find them all. Remember you can carry only 48 Memories at a time. Visit the Forgotten Temple regularly to submit them at the statue and unlock new rewards.
