While Hytale is primarily a survival game, players who love building will also have a great time. That’s thanks to its extensive, sophisticated Creative Mode, which you can already try out. It makes Minecraft’s native Creative Mode look basic by comparison, offering far more features and a more intuitive experience with prompts, hints, and tips that make building and creating easier. Getting started can still feel overwhelming, so we’ll take a closer look and show you which tools are available.

Hytale Creative Mode explained: How to get started

Hytale Creative Mode overview: Creative-mode start and Crossroads hub

As in Minecraft, Creative Mode is primarily designed for building and creating your own world without limitations. You have access to all blocks, you’re invincible, and you can even fly. In that sense, it will feel familiar to many players.

You can create a world in Creative Mode by selecting it in the start menu. Just like with regular worlds, you can also adjust more settings via the gear icon and add mods. However, everything we’re showing you today works completely without mods!

When you open the world, you’ll start in the “Crossroads” hub. There you can choose between three worlds:

  • a superflat world
  • a standard map with the currently known zones
  • a world with a tundra biome using world generation V2

You can go through any portal, and you can return to the hub later by opening the chat with Enter and typing /hub. This lets you, for example, assemble builds in the flat world first and then transfer them to a normal world.

Hytale Creative Mode tools: An overview

Once you’ve picked a world, you basically have everything at your disposal. A look at your inventory shows there’s a lot to explore. Hytale offers an exceptional number of handy tools for creative players, and it’s worth getting familiar with them. We’ll go through them step by step, though we also encourage you to try things out and discover features yourself.

Hytale blocks, decorations, and gear in Creative Mode

Hytale inventory: blocks, decorations, and equipment in Creative Mode

Let’s start with the regular inventory, which already has plenty to see. You can choose between four different tabs, divided into categories: Blocks, Decorations, Equipment, and Tools.

We’ll focus first on the initial three sections. You’ll recognize this menu from Minecraft: it’s where you can find every block currently in the game. This also includes many items you can’t obtain yet in regular survival. Each of the three menus includes its own subcategories on the bar below, where you can find virtually any item. You can also use the search on the right to look for specific things.

Simply drag the desired item into your hotbar and you can build to your heart’s content. It’s intuitive—and probably the easiest thing to do in Hytale’s Creative Mode.

Hytale terrain tools and brushes: Precisely shape your world

Things get interesting and complex when you open the fourth tab. Here you’ll find various tools that let you manipulate the world around you. We’ll mainly focus on the first three subcategories, as some of the later sections aren’t fully functional yet.

You can adjust every tool in the panel on the right. This includes size and width, the selected blocks, and many other settings. That enables extremely complex tools and custom setups. Each tool also displays a hint panel on the left, where you can learn all the keybinds.

The first category includes some of your most important tools:

  • Entity Tool: Arguably the most powerful tool in the game! Spawn virtually all animals, items, blocks, and prefabs from Hytale, rotate and modify them as you wish, and place them freely in the world.
  • Paint Brush Tool: Paint your world with a block of your choice.
  • Paste Tool: Choose from Hytale’s large catalog of entities and place them in your world.
  • Selection Tool: Select specific parts of your world, then move, copy, or delete them.

The second category focuses on general terrain manipulation, letting you refine the landscape with tools like Extrude, Noise, and Smooth. It’s well worth trying everything out to see how each option affects your world.

That goes hand in hand with the third category, where you can manipulate terrain further and select from a range of prefabricated assets. As mentioned, you can customize these, use different blocks, or build your own brushes. This lets you create mountains, carve rivers, or lay paths in no time.

Hytale commands, spawns, and quick settings

Finally, let’s cover a few more Creative Mode details. In the inventory, you can also configure Quick Settings on the right when you’re not holding a tool. There you can set your flight speed, enable No Clip, or adjust your reach. You can also teleport by selecting any location on the map.

Press B to open another menu for creative tools, which are a bit more advanced. Via the top bar, you can edit assets (separate program) or select and spawn all kinds of prefabs, entities, particles, or sounds. Hytale gives you tremendous freedom, since everything is built right into the game.

Under Help, you’ll also find all available commands, which you can enter in chat with Enter. These can give your world the final polish when you’re after a specific function.

Conclusion on Hytale’s Creative Mode: A builder’s dream

Even without mods, Hytale’s Creative Mode offers endless possibilities to craft your dream world. You can pick any block in the game and manipulate it exactly how you want—without having to place a grid in the world—so you can dive straight into fine details. Landscape creation is straightforward thanks to the terrain tools, and you also have access to all of Hytale’s prefabricated assets, which you can place wherever you like.

Of course, you can also use Creative Mode in multiplayer—pick your own Hytale server with us and get started! There’s an incredible amount to discover, and together with friends you can create a beautiful world.
