Hytale is all about exploration, but a base for storage, crops, and a reliable respawn point is just as important. The world of Orbis gives you plenty of room to build a cozy home. Some places are far better than others, though—and your choice determines which resources you’ll have on hand. Keep an eye on base safety too; you don’t want to be ambushed by monsters. We’ve picked seven locations that make fantastic home bases!
Turn the Hytale spawn temple into a starter base

One of the easiest locations is the spot where you first enter Hytale’s world. You spawn in a rather dilapidated temple that serves as your gateway to adventure. But why not live right here? The spawn makes an excellent temporary—or even long-term—base, since you don’t have to travel far to find a suitable place. It’s safe, even if a few blocks are missing. That gives you the freedom to furnish the cave to your taste. Perfect for getting started immediately and sprucing up the old temple.
Best base locations: Wide plains of the Emerald Wilds (Zone 1)

Building is easiest when you have space. The broad green fields of Zone 1 are made for it. You’ll find few trees, no real hills, and plenty of livestock. A farm is a natural fit here, and there’s ample room for crop fields. If you want to learn how you can already tame animals, check out our post: (Hytale animal taming: livestock, feed, and products) . Of course, you can get creative and use the space however you like. We also recommend building near the Forgotten Temple so you can turn in Memories quickly.
Hybrid base in the marble cliffs: Gorge Plains in Zone 1

Also in Zone 1, you can find regions with steep marble coastlines. This area is called the Gorge Plains and is perfect for a hybrid base: part inside the mountain and part outside. Use the marble terraces as stepped platforms for fields, for example. Carve your living quarters into the mountain, hide them well, and integrate them directly into the rock. The marble and limestone you find here are great for expanding your build—both look stylish and can be processed at the Builder’s Workbench.
River base in the birch forest: Farming and fishing in Zone 1

The forests of Zone 1 are also a lovely place to build a small house. Build right on a river or pond so you can set up fields and place fish traps. If fishing is added later, this location becomes unbeatable. With a forest at your back, you’ll always have enough wood for your projects. You may also find nearby cave entrances that grant access to copper, stone, and maybe even iron.
Underground base in the Hidey Hole: Move in with the Klops

If you want a roommate, look for a “Hidey Hole” in one of Zone 1’s caves. A Klops lives here—a peaceful fellow who’s made himself comfortable underground. His home is fully furnished and even has a few chests with loot. You’ll find lots of bookshelves, tables, and chairs, and even a kind of hot spring. Feel free to tear down and redesign this cave base however you like. The Klops won’t mind.
Desert camp in the Howling Sands: Teleporter outpost

The best base locations aren’t limited to Zone 1—you can branch out to other regions. If you prefer desert sand at your doorstep, build your home in a savanna. A tent camp works best here; some even appear as preset structures scattered across the desert. These camps are perfect as a mid-journey stopover or as a place for a teleporter linked to your main base. Later on, you can build full houses to bring more life to the desert.
Alpine hut in the Whisperfrost Frontiers: Mountain base in Zone 3

Some players are drawn to colder regions. Head north to find frosty mountain ranges waiting for you. They’re perfect for a cozy alpine hut and a great launch point for further expeditions in Zone 3. As with the camp in Zone 2, you can place another teleporter here to save yourself long treks. Just make sure you don’t end up with Yetis for neighbors. Otherwise, the mountains are well-protected and even have cobalt, gold, and silver ready for you.
Hytale areas to avoid for bases: These spots are risky
Alongside all these nice places, there are locations you should avoid. You want a calm and safe place to live—and these structures and biomes don’t really offer that.
- Forgotten Temple: Yes, you can set up here temporarily, but you’ll be sharing the cave below with a Golem that keeps respawning.
- “The Fens” swamp: The swamp in Zone 1 isn’t great—nasty monsters like snakes, spiders, and toads spawn here.
- Structures with monster respawns: Some prefab structures make great homes, others don’t. Avoid those where monsters can respawn.
- Zone 4: The fiery hellscape of Zone 4 is definitely not a good place for a base.
Conclusion: The best places for your Hytale base
Hytale offers plenty of great spots to build a beautiful base and always have a safe retreat. Zone 1 is especially suitable, as it has the fewest dangers. You can also claim existing structures and restore them—as long as monsters don’t respawn there. Zone 2 and Zone 3 are conditionally suitable for a base, but they’re excellent as teleporter locations.
