Hytale Alchemist's & Arcanist's Workbench Guide: Potions, Portals, Magic

Hytale Alchemist's & Arcanist's Workbench Guide: Potions, Portals, Magic

Hytale’s world is infused with magic—and you can harness it yourself by unlocking both the Alchemist’s and Arcanist’s Workbench. These provide the first building blocks for using magical elements in Hytale, with more likely to come in future updates. Even now, both workbenches are exciting to explore, hiding several late‑game items, including the all‑important portals. There’s more to discover, too—let’s take a closer look.

Hytale Alchemist’s Workbench: Brew potions and upgrades

Hytale Alchemist's Workbench crafting materials and costs

You can craft the Alchemist’s Workbench in the standard workbench, but it’s one of the last systems you can currently unlock. You’ll mainly need gold, which isn’t easy to find.

You need:

  • 20x Stone
  • 5x Gold Bars
  • 10x Poison Sacs
  • 10x Bone Fragments

Most features of this bench are available from the start, but you can unlock additional options with an upgrade to Tier 2.

Upgrade to Tier 2:

  • 20x Silver Bars
  • 10x Gold Bars
  • 10x Boom Powder
  • 50x Bone Fragments

The Alchemist’s Workbench has three categories. They’re still a bit basic, but already offer some exciting features. Primarily, you’ll find potions, but there are also bombs that could be decisive in combat. Let’s break them down.

Hytale brewing potions healing stamina antidote

Brewing healing potions and buffs in Hytale

If you don’t want to rely solely on food for energy, potions are a great alternative. There are small potions of healing, attack energy, and stamina. To craft them, smelt sand in a furnace into empty glass bottles. You’ll also need special plants from the Blood, Azure, and Storm categories. There’s also an antidote to quickly cure you.

At Tier 2, you can brew larger variants of each potion. They’re more expensive, as you must first craft the small versions. You can obtain seeds for these magical plants, but they are extremely rare.

Transformation potions: Turn into animals without benefits

The second tab is all about fun potions that transform you into an animal of your choice: dog, pigeon, frog, or mouse. To unlock this, you first need to restore 50 Memories in the Forgotten Temple. Learn more in our guide: Hytale Erinnerungen finden: Fundorte, Tipps und Belohnungen. The transformation lasts one minute and doesn’t provide notable advantages.

Crafting bombs: Cherry bombs in combat

Finally, you can craft cherry bombs at the Alchemist’s Workbench. These are small, throwable explosives that let you attack enemies from a distance. They aren’t particularly strong, but they can deal damage and keep foes at bay. They’re made from wild berries, fibers, and Boom Powder.

Arcanist’s Workbench: Portals, Ancient Gateway, and magic

Hytale Arcanist's Workbench crafting portals and magic

The Arcanist’s Workbench is likely the most expensive bench to craft right now. It’s definitely aimed at advanced players, as it hides some powerful tools for your Hytale world.

You need:

  • 10x Thorium Bars
  • 30x Linen
  • 20x Essence of the Void

There’s currently no upgrade, but some features only unlock with Memories. Either way, you’ll want to travel, as many functions of the Arcanist’s Workbench truly shine on the road. More items will surely be added, but even now it’s well worth crafting what’s available.

Hytale Ancient Gateway fragments and new worlds

Craft portals for fast travel

The most important items are likely the portals you can craft at the Arcanist’s Workbench. They let you travel around your world. Gather azure logs and kelp to craft them. Initially, you can use up to 5 portals, and with more Memories you can increase that to up to 10.

Place at least two portals in your world to link them. You can interact with a portal and choose where it should teleport to. For example, place one at your base and others in the desert and the tundra. Then select your destination. Portals are extremely handy for fast travel from A to B.

Ancient Gateway: Use fragments to visit other worlds

There’s another portal at this bench: the Ancient Gateway. Combined with a fragment, it lets you travel to other worlds. These are examples of Hytale’s upcoming world generation and can be entered for a limited time. You can only unlock this with 100 Memories.

Currently, there are three fragments:

  • Orbis – The Dread Wade
  • Orbis – Dragonspire Weald
  • Orbis – Windrider Valley

These temporary worlds are perfect for gathering additional resources without long journeys. They may also contain secrets and rare items. Each new world is freshly generated, though you’ll only explore a small slice of it.

Note: The ancient portals are a bit buggy, so they may not always work as expected. You can still try them out.

Craft magical wands and totems

The second section of the Arcanist’s Workbench is great for combat‑focused players. Here you can craft two wands and two totems to support you in battle.

The wands are aligned with ice and fire, and they consume the corresponding essence as a form of ammo. That can be costly, but it’s very powerful. Like melee weapons, they feature multiple attack patterns. For example, the Flame Crystal Staff can spew fire. You must have the essences in your inventory to attack.

You can also craft totems—one for healing and one for slowness. Once crafted, you can use them infinitely, but they have a cooldown. You throw them onto the ground, where they apply their effects. The names make their functions clear. They can be a big help in combat, though they aren’t exactly cheap to make.

Conclusion: Master magic, portals, and potions in Hytale

Hytale offers many systems you’ll unlock over time. Both the Alchemist’s and Arcanist’s Workbench are features for advanced players, as they often require rare items. The search pays off, though: both benches are perfect for survival—whether through portals for fast travel, alternative healing, or new weapon types.

You can use these workbenches too by renting one of our Hytale servers. Team up with friends and be ready whenever a new update drops.
