Enshrouded Update 7 Wake of the Water: complete guide to water mechanics, Veilwater Basin, and the greatsword

The Enshrouded devs already surprised players this year with two major updates, but Wake of the Water raises the bar once more. Update 7 brings lots of exciting additions you can spend hours with. The focus is water and everything that comes with it. From a new biome and water mechanics to fishing, it’s all here. There are also extensive adjustments to the combat system, including the greatsword and a general rebalance. There’s more in the patch notes, so we’re taking a closer look at the update for you.

Right at the start, the new water takes center stage, which also gives the update its name. It unlocks several new possibilities that make Enshrouded noticeably deeper. Water isn’t just realistically simulated, it can also be used for swimming and diving. You can even control it yourself and use it in your base.

The ability to swim is available to every player right from the beginning. That lets you discover many new places in both old and new regions, so it’s worth revisiting. While underwater you can’t fight, but you can move nimbly or dive for treasure. There’s even a new item, the sieve, which lets you search the ground for rare resources. From pearls to gold, you’ll find real riches.

The building system has also been expanded with water. You can control it with a water pump or a spring, and build your own rivers, aqueducts, or even pools. Mechanics like dams and water wheels are also implemented and functional. Underwater bases are possible too thanks to the new barriers.

Fishing in Enshrouded Update 7 tips and rewards

Lakes, rivers, and ponds also mean more fauna has moved into the regions of Embervale. Not just in the new biome, but everywhere you’ll find new bodies of water that invite diving and fishing.

Craft your first fishing rod and pick a suitable spot. The minigame is easy to grasp and a fun pastime. With bait you can increase your chances of a catch. A new survivor can help improve your fishing skills and unlock new fishing gear. Your catches are especially useful for the new recipes that have been added.

Veilwater Basin new biome in Enshrouded Update 7

The biggest part of the update is the new region that stretches across large portions of the map. The Veilwater Basin is a high-level area you’ll likely only enter toward the end of the current game. Most enemies are above level 35, but once you’re ready, appropriate missions will lead you to this new section of the map.

Veilwater Basin features a more tropical theme. There’s dense vegetation and lots of water everywhere. There’s something new around every corner, and it’ll take you several hours to explore all the new places. The dense jungle is perfect for expeditions and hidden treasures. Many of the new features primarily focus on this biome.

Temples ruins dungeons and Drak enemies in Veilwater Basin

Particularly exciting are the new temples, ruins, and dungeons waiting behind trees or in the shallows of the seas. In true Indiana Jones fashion, you’ll encounter puzzles, traps, and above all, enemies. A new enemy type has been added, the Drak. These reptiles can attack you both on land and in the water. Beware, because you yourself cannot attack while in water.

A new area also brings new materials, and Veilwater Basin is perfect for that. You can collect many new things to beautify your base. There are also numerous furniture pieces and decorations as well as many new plants to make your base more attractive. You’ll also find new animals, including adorable capybaras.

Greatsword and combat system changes in Update 7

As promised, the combat system has been revised. The highlight is the new weapon: the greatsword. It’s a powerful two-handed weapon that’s slow but deals very high damage. Even new players can find greatswords as loot early in the game.

Together with the new region and the new weapon, the level cap has been raised to 45 for your character and to 50 for weapons. That offers more flexibility, new skills, and better ways to optimize your playstyle. There are also stronger weapons and gear, which are easier to find thanks to the new loot distribution in chests and on enemies. In addition, all weapons have been revised so their descriptions match their attributes.

There are new skills for almost every situation, but mages benefit in particular. Healing is now significantly better, especially in multiplayer. On top of that come abilities for underwater movement, new resistances, and whirlwind attacks.

Quality of life improvements and patch notes highlights

Finally, there were many adjustments to existing systems to make things easier for players. Enshrouded is still in Early Access, but preparations for a full release are underway. Many of these quality of life improvements were highly requested by players.

  • You can label signs and even edit them.
  • The watering can is now a very practical tool for gardening. It shows soil composition and can limit the growth of plants.
  • The entire stamina system has been adjusted, with new values for food and buffs.
  • The durability of all weapons has been increased.
  • Loot from late-game chests has been completely reworked to yield better weapons.
  • You can now set your key bindings individually.
  • Visual improvements, especially to water mechanics and lighting.

Conclusion on Enshrouded Wake of the Water

Developed in Germany, Enshrouded has earned a firm place in the survival scene and impresses with major updates like Wake of the Water. It shows that the devs listen to the community and not only deliver new content but also address weak points in a targeted way. The new biome, the water mechanics, and the revised combat and loot systems define Update 7. There’s a lot to discover.
