Enshrouded Farming Guide: Grow Plants, Soil & Update 7

In Enshrouded you don’t just explore a large handcrafted world—you can also bring your finds home and cultivate them. A safe, good‑looking base is the hub of the game: it’s where you rest, house your NPCs, and grow your own plants. All across the map you’ll find familiar and new seeds that you should take back to your base. There you can plant and breed them as you like. Why it’s worth it and how to set up your own little farm—that’s exactly what this guide covers!

Start farming in Enshrouded: Grow crops and find the Farmer

Enshrouded farming: find the Farmer and start growing

To start growing crops, you first need to find the Farmer. She’s one of the many survivors hiding in Enshrouded’s world who need your help. You’ll find her in an Ancient Vault and can bring her back to your base. There she’ll offer you additional quests around farming and animal husbandry, but you can also dive right into tending your own fields.

With the Farmer unlocked, craft a Seedbed first so you can turn found plants into seeds. You’ll need Farm Soil, which you can make from regular dirt and Bone Dust. While you can simply gather dirt, Bone Dust is crafted at the Grindstone from bones. You get bones from dead animals, and you can craft the Grindstone yourself after mining stone.

1. Make seeds at the Seedbed: resources and requirements

Enshrouded Seedbed: craft seeds and gather resources

While exploring Embervale, you’ll come across all sorts of plants. You should always pick them up so you can grow them later. At the Seedbed, you can convert plants into seeds. Depending on the plant, different requirements apply.

You’ll always need the plant itself and often some extra ingredients:

  • Water: Draw it from a well you can build yourself after unlocking the Carpenter. Alternatively, use a watering can or portable pumps.
  • Sand: Can be mined in the desert region (Kindlewastes).
  • Nitrate: Crafted in the Laboratory from Sand, Shroud Sand, Wood Acid, and Salt. You must first find the Alchemist. For Wood Acid, use the Charcoal Kiln.
  • Fossilized Bone Dust: Made from Fossilized Bones found in the desert and processed at the Grindstone.
  • Farm Soil: Crafted from dirt and Bone Dust. You can also harvest it from other beds.
  • Fertilized Farm Soil: Upgrade Farm Soil with fertilizer such as Nitrate and water to optimize growth conditions.

Some plants and seeds are only available later due to their requirements. The easiest starters are plants that need few materials or can even be turned into seeds using only the plant itself. For the beginning we recommend nettles, chamomile, corn, or beets. Regular bushes are also important for materials. Depending on the plant type, you’ll get 5 to 20 seeds or saplings.

2. Sow seeds: soil types and building fields

Enshrouded create fields: sow seeds and choose the right soil

Once you’ve crafted seeds at the Seedbed, you can sow them. You can use different ground types: Sand, Dirt, Potting Soil, Farm Soil, or Fertilized Farm Soil. Soil can also vary by region. Farm Soil and Fertilized Farm Soil are generally recommended, as most plants grow better there.

Open the build menu and scroll to Terrain. There you can choose and place the desired ground. We’ve already explained more about the building system in another article: (Enshrouded: Build a Starter House with Workbench and Flame Altar) . Expand your fields as you like and decorate them with other materials—your creativity has no limits here.

You can sow seeds manually and fine‑tune spacing, or use the snapping tool, which you can toggle on and off in the bottom right. This lets you plant much faster and have a field ready in no time.

3. Harvest and multiply seeds: growth and drops

Once the growth time has passed, you can harvest your mature plants. You’ll always receive the final produce and a good number of new seeds. Replant them to multiply alongside the Seedbed. This makes crop farming a form of self‑sufficiency, ensuring a steady supply.

Enshrouded Update 7 Wake of the Water: soils and watering can

Enshrouded Update 7: watering can, soils, and new farming mechanics

The new “Wake of the Water” update adds several changes that overhaul plant cultivation and make your plots more efficient, alongside many new plant species:

  • With the watering can equipped, you can now view details about a plant, including growth stage, preferred soil, and water supply.
  • Pause plant growth at a chosen stage with the watering can to use plants decoratively.
  • New and improved growth animations.
  • Underwater seeds for crops like rice, which must be submerged to grow.

Plant types in Enshrouded: uses and recipes

Plant types in Enshrouded: fruit, vegetables, herbs, grains, and more

Finally, let’s look at which plants you can grow. Thanks to its biomes, Enshrouded’s world is very diverse. You’ll discover many different plant types to cultivate later. They also have different uses that matter for other aspects of the game.

  • Fruit: Plants like strawberries, wild berries, the yucca palm, or pumpkins. These are mainly used for cooking and to gain buffs.
  • Vegetables: Cook all kinds of tasty dishes using tomatoes, peppers, or ginger.
  • Mushrooms: Important for cooking and a great snack especially for mages.
  • Grains: Often base ingredients for food—for example, use wheat to make flour. There’s also corn and rice for more recipes.
  • Herbs: A herb garden is essential for healing foods. Whether chamomile, rooibos, saffron, sage, or nettles, there are plenty of great plants to choose from.
  • Trees: Set up a tree farm to gather wood, leaves, and resin.
  • Wild plants: This includes the remaining saplings. For example, grow flax, aloe vera, hazelnuts, or coconuts for various recipes.

Conclusion: farming tips and Update 7 highlights

Once you’ve built a safe base in Enshrouded, you should set up your own field as well. Many resources are needed for food and healing items, and you can also mass‑produce other materials like wood or sticks this way. Update 7 brings exciting additions, including new watering can features that are especially useful for decorations.
