Building your own base is one of the most important mechanics in Palworld. There you can not only interact with your Pals, but also put them to work. This makes it easier to gather resources and push your progress. With the new Home Sweet Home update, several of these points have been reworked so your base now looks nicer while also running more efficiently. We take a look at the basics of Palworld’s building system: how to set up a base, expand it, and use it for your own purposes. We’ll also give you a list of the best Pals to get you started.
Building a Palworld base: location, Palbox and technology

You can set up a base as soon as you can craft a Palbox. This is unlocked at Technology level 2. There you can not only store and stash your Pals, but also begin your first base. The box is always the centre of your base, and from there a dome shows the range of your base. Everything inside the circle does not lose durability. The box also acts as a fast travel point.
As you progress, you’ll unlock the ability to establish additional bases. You should also complete the tasks that appear with base building. This will unlock more options and let you expand your base’s capacity.
But where should you build? That depends on your preferences. First consider the purpose of your base. Do you only want to gather resources temporarily, or will it be a permanent base for all your Pals? Your bases should be designed accordingly.
In general, look for:
- Flat ground that’s suitable for building
- Plenty of resources nearby
- Safety from Pals and potential raids
- Natural shielding from cliffs and mountains
While you can only build in wood at the start, new structure sets arrive later. Wood isn’t particularly safe, so try to reach level 18 to unlock the stone set.
Make use of the entire area provided by the Palbox so your Pals have enough room to move. This helps you plan your base better and ensures all workstations are reachable. You should also consider defending against raids by building a wall around your base.
You can decorate your base with furniture and lighting. The new build menu from Update 0.7 is much clearer and lets you choose what to build from a list. It works much better than the previous radial menu.
Palworld technologies for base building: key levels and structure sets

By levelling up and earning Technology Points you can unlock new options for your base. In the first few hours, focus on levelling up quickly to unlock these features.
We recommend pushing to around level 16 to unlock all the essential basics. With that, you can build a wooden base, set up your first fields, give your Pals a comfy sleeping area, and create some basic farms to collect stone and wood. You’ll also unlock some great furniture sets to give your base a nicer look.
You unlock new structure sets at:
- Lvl. 18: Stone
- Lvl. 30: Metal
- Lvl. 39: Glass
- Lvl. 50: Japanese
- Lvl. 61: Futuristic
Palworld base features: storage, processing, agriculture and breeding

Bases fulfil many roles in Palworld, so it’s important to secure a safe haven early. As you unlock more technologies, you’ll gain more features to integrate into your existing base.
- Storage for everything you collect (with various storage systems)
- Processing of materials with machines
- Agriculture to provide food for you and your Pals
- Ranching your Pals
- Farming key resources
- Rest area for your Pals so they can relax after work
- Breeding your Pals to obtain new and better Pals
- Trading with rotating merchants
- Pal Expeditions for gathering items
Managing Pals in your base: assigning work, sanity and the Monitoring Station

Pals are your friends and helpers when it comes to maintaining your base. They can take on twelve different tasks, each with different values and capabilities. It’s important to assign Pals properly so everything keeps running smoothly.
For even more control over your Pals, we recommend the Monitoring Station. You unlock it at level 14, and it helps you assign Pals to specific jobs in your base more effectively. You can also set how hard your Pals should work. In addition, you can exclude Pals from certain tasks to make things more efficient.
Finally, you need to look after your Pals’ sanity so they don’t refuse to work. There are several ways to do this. Build enough beds for all Pals, keep plenty of food available, and give them a break in hot springs so they can recover. Your Pals are always happy to help, but you must take good care of them.
Best Pals for base building: all‑rounders for work and farming

Which Pals are best for your base depends on its primary function. You’ll need to check yourself which tasks are currently needed and which Pals you can deploy. The best choices are Pals that can take on several roles at once. While some Pals focus on a single skill, others are true all‑rounders. As you play, you’ll discover different and better Pals.
We recommend these Pals that can take on multiple tasks:
- Tanzee
- Penking
- Daedream
- Flopie
- Bristla
- Incineram
- Dumud
- Robinquill
- Elizabee
- Anubis
- Tombat
- Bushi
- Verdash
- Petallia
- Quivern
- Grizzbolt
