Even in Early Access, there is already a lot to discover in Hytale! And to gather all the important resources, you’ll need to travel through Orbis’s different zones. From green meadows and cold regions to deserts and volcanic islands, Hytale already offers a varied world. Over the course of release, more zones and a more advanced world generation system are planned, so this list isn’t final. For now, we’re taking a closer look at the first four zones—what you can find there and where to source key materials.

Hytale Zone 1 Emerald Wilds: biomes, ores and mobs

Hytale Zone 1 Emerald Wilds with meadows, forests and early resources

The emerald-hued wilds are your initial spawn location. You’ll find sweeping green meadows and dense forests where you can learn the basics of Hytale. Resources are easy to come by and there are few threats. Build a small first base here—this zone sits centrally between the others and makes an ideal staging point for your adventures.

  • Biomes: You’ll find broad treeless plains as well as mixed forests featuring various tree species. There are also colourful autumn forests that are lovely to behold. Scattered among them are marble plateaux and steep mountains rich in ores. Deep in the woods you’ll also encounter swamps. The Azure region, with its blue trees, is a particular highlight.

  • Wood types: You can find Oak, Beech, Birch, Maple, Ash, Azure and Aspen here, making this the zone with the greatest variety of trees.

  • Animals: Most friendly wildlife lives here. You’ll encounter pigs, chickens and sheep, as well as boars, foxes, turkeys and rabbits. You can also find horses to ride. The Emerald Wilds teem with life, and some animals can even be captured.

  • Enemies: Not all creatures are friendly. Watch out for spiders, bears, snakes and wolves. In terms of monsters, expect to fight skeletons, swamp creatures and orcs.

  • Ores: You’ll mostly find copper, with some iron in places. Very rarely, you can also discover veins of thorium.

Hytale Zone 2 Howling Sands: desert, biomes, ores and enemies

Hytale Zone 2 Howling Sands with sand dunes, oases and dangerous insects

Head south from the green forests and you’ll reach a vast desert, itself divided into several sub-regions. Vegetation is sparse, while monsters are notably more aggressive, so take care. The local insects are particularly troublesome.

  • Biomes: In addition to sweeping sand deserts and dunes, you’ll find mesa canyons. There are savannas with trees, plus oases dotted in between. The insect nests are especially treacherous, often leaving huge craters.

  • Wood types: You can still find a few trees in the desert—worth harvesting when you see them. These include Palm, Gumboab, Dry, Bottletree and Palo. The trees are sparse but spread across most sub-biomes.

  • Animals: Several species make the desert their home, which you can observe or hunt for meat and leather. Expect camels, armadillos and lizards, as well as meerkats and antelopes.

  • Enemies: The desert teems with nasty insects and other foes. Beware of snakes, scorpions and flying insects. Caves are overrun with creepy-crawlies. Other land predators are unfriendly too, including hyenas and sabre-toothed tigers.

  • Ores: You’ll find the more common ores such as iron here as well, but the main draw is the abundance of thorium underground.

Hytale Zone 3 Whisperfrost Frontiers: ice biomes, ores and creatures

Hytale Zone 3 Whisperfrost Frontiers with taiga, tundra and frozen lakes

If you’re drawn to the cold, the frosty Whisperfrost Frontiers in the north are for you. Here, taiga gives way to tundra and deep snow-covered forests. The frozen waters are easier to cross, and along the towering mountains you can mine plenty of ores if you’re so inclined.

  • Biomes: Hytale’s winter zones are diverse and expansive. You’ll find broad, barren tundra alongside densely populated taiga forests. Massive mountains rise between them—perfect for any climber. There are also vast ice fields and caves. The ice seas, with their floes and slick surfaces, are particularly striking.

  • Wood types: Currently there are three types available here: Redwood, Fir and Cedar.

  • Animals: The cold doesn’t deter bison, moose and mountain goats. Along the shores you’ll also see polar bears and penguins.

  • Enemies: Beyond bears and polar bears, be especially wary of the Yeti in the mountains. You’ll also come across Outlanders in camps, making use of the harsh environment.

  • Ores: In the mountains and underground you’ll find plenty of gold, silver and, most notably, the blue cobalt.

Hytale Zone 4 Devastated Lands: lava biomes, rare ores and enemies

Hytale Zone 4 Devastated Lands with lavafalls, ash fields and a hidden jungle

Venture to the edge of the main island and you’ll see colossal lavafalls. This is the Devastated Lands, an area of ruin with not a hint of green—at least on the surface. The land is scarred by rivers of lava and blackened soil, with little true life visible. But if you descend into the depths, you may discover a jungle.

  • Biomes: Most biomes here blend into one another, yet there’s still plenty of variety. From ash fields and basalt deltas to lava-slashed landscapes. Occasionally you might even spot forests. Underground, however, lies a lush jungle.

  • Wood types: Surprisingly, this lava zone offers a fair number of wood types. You can find Burned, Ash, Fire, Petrified, Poison, Bamboo, Tropical and Sallow. Some are only available in the deep caves, where a surprisingly lush green paradise awaits.

  • Animals: Few animals call this zone home, but you’ll still encounter a handful, including undead pigs and cows and magma snails.

  • Enemies: Monsters and hostile creatures are abundant here, making this zone especially punishing. Beware tough skeletons, wolves and skeleton horses. The nasty toads from below can be found right on the surface, and dinosaurs await you in the jungle.

  • Ores: In these devastated landscapes you’ll find adamantite, superior to cobalt and thorium.

Conclusion on Hytale zones: finding resources and travelling safely

Even if you set up a cosy base in the first zone, Hytale doesn’t reward staying put. Many resources—especially rare ores—are tied to other zones. Sooner or later you’ll need to mount an expedition and brave the other biomes. We recommend tackling the zones in the order listed so you’re well-equipped.
