Once you’ve built a base in the first zone, mined for Thorium and Cobalt in Zones 2 and 3, and upgraded your gear, you’re ready to face Hytale’s final major hurdle for now. You’ve probably already noticed the massive black islands off the coasts of other biomes, their sheer cliffs keeping visitors at bay. That’s where Zone 4 waits: the Devastated Lands. A lava-scarred region with tough enemies—but also the best ore you can currently find. You’ll have to go there sooner or later, or you won’t get any Adamantite. Here’s what else awaits you!

Hytale Zone 4 Devastated Lands: Biomes, Biodiversity, and Wildlife

Hytale Zone 4 Devastated Lands with basalt cliffs and lava

Zone 4 may look monotonous and lifeless at first glance, but it’s surprisingly diverse! Much of it is the Basalt Peninsula—the rim regions of sheer cliffs, carved from basalt and shot through with lava. Watch every step to avoid burning your feet. The Charred Woodlands are just as dangerous: scorched forests of still-burning trees that are anything but welcoming. You’ll also find wide fields of ash where nothing grows. More welcoming are the Cinder Wastes—wooded areas that even retain patches of green grass and healthy trees. Some trees even resemble mushrooms. It occasionally rains there, which doesn’t happen elsewhere in Zone 4.

Undead animals and skeletal warriors in the Devastated Lands of Hytale Zone 4

It’s not just scattered forests—plenty of creatures have made Zone 4 their home. Most will attack on sight, so even those that look peaceful are best avoided. You’ll encounter undead versions of cows, pigs, and chickens, though they can’t be tamed. There are also skeletal horses you can ride.

Most other mobs in Zone 4 are far nastier. Expect ubiquitous skeletal warriors, as well as lava golems and a few Emberwulfs. Beware the large skeletons—their hits are brutal. You’ll also run into eerie creatures like wraiths wielding scythes. Reptiles live here too; as always, the toads are especially treacherous, flinging you through the air with their tongues.

Hytale Zone 4 Caves: Adamantite, Ores, and Monsters

Adamantite deposits on the surface and in the caves of Hytale Zone 4

Adamantite is Zone 4’s deep-red ore, but you don’t have to delve into caves to find it—you’ll spot plenty on the surface as well. Your map helps here: red patches often indicate an ore deposit. Still, the caves are worth exploring if you find an entrance.

Shallow caves are much like those in other zones, arranged in narrow corridors. Their walls are made of volcanic rock, slate, basalt, or scorched earth. Rats can still spawn behind you, but instead of goblins you’ll face zombies that claw their way out of the ground.

Underground jungle in Hytale Zone 4 with crystals and dinosaurs

The deeper you go, the more exciting the Devastated Lands’ caves become. Eventually you’ll come across green grass, perhaps some abandoned ruins or mine shafts—signs of a bygone presence. Keep exploring to find many chests and loot throughout the caves.

Far below the lava and surface destruction, it becomes increasingly lush and green. Beneath Zone 4 lies a full-fledged underground jungle. Rare trees grow densely, with mushrooms and other plants everywhere. There are also many crystals you can take for crafting. Most intriguing are the inhabitants: various dinosaurs that live underground. You’ll encounter pterosaurs, small rexes and raptors, and even Trillodons. They will attack if you get too close.

Hytale Zone 4 Structures: Volcanoes, Ruins, and Villages of the Devastated Lands

Ruins, mage towers, and volcanoes in Hytale’s Devastated Lands

As in the other zones, the Devastated Lands feature several structures to explore. On the surface they often look ruined and are guarded only by skeletons, which aren’t much of an obstacle. You’ll find villages overrun by magma, mage towers, and ancient ruined cities. They vary in size and layout but are worth the detour. Watch for grates in the ground to access a sewer. You can also find the Forgotten Temple again—this time with a fiery golem standing guard.

Then turn your attention to the volcanoes scattered throughout the zone. They aren’t exactly structures, but they lead to other discoveries. You can descend into the crater to reach the underground jungle, and some volcanoes also hide treasure. Beyond ruins and mine shafts in the caves, certain volcanoes have a true treasure trove at their base, with rare chests and gold blocks. You can even spot these on the map if you look closely.

You’ll also find a few structures in the jungle, among the dense trees. These include ruins, but especially villages built from bamboo. These villages currently have no inhabitants, but are slated to be home to the so‑called Slothians. They’re the counterparts to the Kweebecks, Ferans, and Outlanders in other zones and will likely play an important role in Hytale’s future story. For now, you’ll only find loot chests there.

Conclusion on Hytale Zone 4: Adamantite and the Underground Jungle in the Devastated Lands

Zone 4 is essential for your progression, as it’s the only place you can mine Adamantite and craft the game’s current best gear. Make sure you’re well equipped before heading in—the many monsters here are no joke. Roam the desolate landscape in search of green pockets. You’re most likely to find them underground, where a sprawling underground jungle with rare trees and dinosaurs awaits.
