As in many other survival games, food is important in Palworld. You won’t just be feeding yourself, though — you’ll also need to look after your Pals. Thankfully, Palworld offers a wide range of different foods and recipes to choose from. Some of them sound and look so delicious you might start to crave them in real life. The key is striking a balance between crafting effort and how much they fill you up — that’s what makes a recipe truly great. Here are all the cooking basics you need to know in Palworld for 2026, plus the best recipes and why they’re so useful.

Palworld food: managing hunger, satiety and sanity

Palworld food guide: manage hunger and Pal morale

Food plays a vital role in Palworld because eating enough serves several functions at once. The cooking system exists for good reason. Both you and your Pals need regular meals to fight off hunger and keep up your sanity.

You can see your own hunger bar in the bottom left, underneath your health. It’s the yellow bar marked with a loaf of bread. The hungrier you are, the slower you move. Your attacks also become weaker, so you should never head into battle on an empty stomach. With an empty stomach you’ll also lose HP down to 1.

Pals work similarly, except each Pal has a hunger rating. Smaller, lighter Pals naturally need less food than larger, stronger ones. You can check how hungry a Pal is in the Paldex or their stats. It’s marked by the number of bread icons (from 1 to 10). Your captured Pals also have their own bar in their menu that drops while they work. All negative effects of hunger apply to Pals as well.

Pals’ sanity and hunger values in Palworld

In addition, Pals have a sanity value you must look after. This is stressed particularly by hard work, so give your creatures a break now and then. The right food is, of course, part of that. Feed them regularly to keep them in good spirits. Every food item has two values: satiety and sanity.

Palworld cooking stations and cooling: from campfire to large kitchen

Palworld cooking stations: Campfire, Cooking Pot, Electric Kitchen and Large Kitchen

To cook, you’ll first need the right equipment. Technologies you unlock as you progress will help here. These unlock increasingly complex recipes that provide more satiety for you and more sanity for your Pals. All stations require a Pal with the Kindling work skill.

Cooking stations at a glance:

  • Level 2: Campfire. Unlocked right at the start and ideal for simple recipes.
  • Level 17: Cooking Pot. Lets you prepare more complex dishes that properly feed you and your Pals. Perfect for the mid-game.
  • Level 41: Electric Kitchen. Cooks even better meals, but requires power.
  • Level 49: Large Kitchen. The top tier of cooking in Palworld. A big oven setup that allows multiple Pals to cook and assist.

A key mechanic of Palworld’s cooking system is that food doesn’t stay fresh forever. In your regular inventory, each dish has a countdown indicating when it will spoil. You can counter this by building Cooler Boxes. At Level 13 you unlock the first version, and at Level 38 a Large Refrigerator. How long food stays fresh depends on Cooling. Assign Pals with this work skill. Penking, for example, is extremely handy.

You’ll also need a Feed Box to automatically feed the Pals in your base. You unlock the first version at Level 4, but you still need to watch out for spoilage. A Refrigerated Feed Box unlocks at Level 51.

Palworld ingredients: growing, gathering, buying and drops

Palworld ingredients: farming, gathering, buying and Ranch drops

To start cooking you’ll obviously need the right ingredients. Depending on the dish, you may need one up to five ingredients. From meat and vegetables to other produce, there are many combinations for tasty recipes.

You can obtain ingredients by:

  • breeding and butchering Pals
  • dedicated drops from Pals at the Ranch
  • buying from vendors
  • gathering around the island
  • farming on a field at your base
  • processing certain resources, for example wheat into flour

Palworld best recipes: top dishes for satiety and sanity

Best Palworld recipes for satiety and sanity

Finally, let’s look at the five best recipes you can cook for yourself and your Pals. These are guidelines — ultimately it depends on what ingredients you have access to. Remember that every recipe restores both hunger and sanity. You can decide which food suits your situation best.

1. Salad recipe

  • Satiety: 84
  • Sanity: 11
  • Ingredients: Tomato + Lettuce

A simple recipe that’s one of the best foods both early on and in the late game. You can either grow or buy both vegetables, making its cost-to-value ratio excellent despite the lower numbers.

2. Pizza recipe

  • Satiety: 184
  • Sanity: 23
  • Ingredients: Flour + Red Berries + Milk + Tomatoes

Only craftable with the Electric Kitchen, but a straightforward, all-round strong mid-game recipe. All ingredients are easy to farm or acquire. And who can say no to a tasty pizza?

3. Minestrone recipe

  • Satiety: 146
  • Sanity: 18
  • Ingredients: Tomato + Carrot + Onion + Potato

Minestrone is an Italian vegetable soup you can cook in Palworld. It’s great because you can grow every ingredient in your fields and you don’t need meat. That also makes it a vegetarian recipe.

4. Mozzarina Hamburger

  • Satiety: 162
  • Sanity: 20
  • Ingredients: Mozzarina Meat + Flour + Lettuce

A very strong recipe, though you will need to butcher some of your Pals for meat. It can be worth it, as the hamburgers are highly filling and also help your Pals’ sanity.

5. Grilled Lamball

  • Satiety: 147
  • Sanity: 18
  • Ingredients: Lamball Leg + Lettuce

Another simple dish that also requires sacrificing Pals. Since you only need salad besides the meat, it’s easy to make and offers similar values to Minestrone.
