Fishing was added to the game with Update 0.6, so it hasn’t been around for very long. That means some newer players might not know about the feature at all! Fishing is a great way to gather both Pals and items. The seas around Palpagos Island are full of exciting treasures, so it’s well worth casting your line now and then. You’ll even reel in Alpha Pals or Pals with exceptionally strong Passive Skills from time to time — ones you really won’t want to miss! Today we’ll cover every mechanic, what to watch out for, and which spots are best for fishing.
Palworld fishing basics: gear and the minigame
There are a few things you’ll need before you can fish. That includes the fishing rod itself, of course, as well as the right bait. And certain Pals can help you fish faster and more efficiently thanks to their Partner Skills. The further you progress, the better your fishing will become.
Fishing rods and bait in Palworld: how to gear up

There are currently 6 fishing rods in Palworld that you can unlock and craft. They’re aimed at beginners (blue), intermediates (green), and professionals (yellow), with two rods per tier. Each rod increases the size of the gauge you see while fishing, making it easier to catch Pals.
All six rods at a glance:
- Beginner’s Fishing Rod (Chillet): technology level 15, normal gauge size
- Beginner’s Fishing Rod (Gumoss): schematic, x1.1 gauge size
- Intermediate Fishing Rod (Cattiva): technology level 29, x1.3 gauge size
- Intermediate Fishing Rod (Croajiro): schematic, x1.4 gauge size
- Professional Fishing Rod (Pengullet): technology level 45, x1.8 gauge size
- Professional Fishing Rod (Depresso): schematic, x1.9 gauge size
On top of that, there are different types of bait you’ll need to lure Pals. There are four in total. You craft them from Pal Fluids or High-Quality Pal Oil and flour, plus other foods such as tomatoes, onions, or carrots. You can set up the appropriate farms in your base for these ingredients.
The baits are:
- Basic bait (no bonus)
- High-quality bait (increased bite rate)
- Luxury bait (larger gauge during the minigame)
- Alluring bait (even larger gauge and more item drops from caught Pals)
There’s also a Super Fishing Magnet, which you only unlock at level 61. It’s primarily intended for salvaging treasures, so you’ll mostly need it later on. You can search for treasure earlier, of course, but you’ll have less luck.
Best Partner Skills and Pals for fishing in Palworld

Alongside your rod and bait, Pals are very helpful, as some of them have special Partner Skills that support your fishing. Keep an eye out for these four Pals:
- Whalaska (Ignis): the catch meter starts partially filled and fills faster while fishing.
- Ghangler (Ignis): Pals bite more quickly when Ghangler is active.
- Jellroy: more and better loot from salvage work while fishing.
- Jelliette: increased item drops from fishing.
Palworld fishing minigame and salvaging explained

Now that you’re set, it’s time to fish. As in many other survival titles, you’ll complete a small minigame to secure Pals and items. It’s straightforward, and you’ll get the hang of it quickly.
How fishing works:
- Find a suitable location where you can see shadows in the water.
- Aim your rod so you’re near a shadow of your choice.
- Select your bait and cast your line.
- Wait patiently.
- When the yellow !! appears, click the left mouse button to hook.
- Repeatedly click the left mouse button so the green gauge tracks the yellow fish icon.
- Continue until the top circle fills and the Pal is caught.
Voilà! You’ve successfully fished up a Pal and likely pulled some extra items from the sea as well. Your returns will vary depending on your gear, Pals, and location. You can also target specific Pals — pay attention to the shadows and their sparkles.

- No sparkle: normal Pal
- Purple sparkle: Alpha Pal
- Green sparkle: Pal with Rainbow Passive Skills
- Fountain of sparkles: Pal with the Pond Lord passive

You can also search for treasures on the open sea, as there are spots where you can carry out salvage work. You must ride a water Pal for this; otherwise the function isn’t available. The magnet can help you find rare items. This minigame is different: a circle appears with a sweeping yellow line. Press F at the right moment when the yellow line is within the green segment.
Best fishing spots in Palworld: locations for Pals and loot

You’ll find fishing spots virtually everywhere on the island — just look for shadows in the water. Different regions naturally host different Pals. For a fully detailed map we recommend PalDB, where you can filter by levels.
The best fishing spots are far to the south of the map, primarily on Feybreak Island, its dungeons, and the neighbouring oil rig. You’ll also find the best salvage locations there — search the seas between Feybreak and Mount Obsidian.
The Pals themselves may be less important than the haul you can bring up. Especially with the magnet and the right location, you can salvage immense riches.
You can find:
- Coralium Ore
- Pal Souls
- Blueprints for weapons and armour
- Applied manuals for work tasks
- Pal gear
- Gold coins
- Training manuals
- Spheres
- Gems
- Technical manuals
Passive fishing in your Palworld base with fish ponds

If you’d rather not fish yourself and prefer to gather Pals and items passively, set up a few fish ponds in your base. You unlock the first pond at level 31 and the second at level 55. Equip each with bait and a Pal with the Handiwork skill to passively obtain items and Pals. Depending on the size of the shadow, you can also find rarer things. The loot mirrors what you get from normal fishing or salvaging.
Conclusion: fishing in Palworld for rare items and Pals
Fishing in Palworld isn’t just a pleasant pastime — later on it becomes extremely important for rare items. You can start early and unlock your first rod at level 15 to seek out different Pals or fish up a few items. Keep upgrading your gear to secure better Pals and better loot. You can also make smart use of Partner Skills, such as those from Whalaska or Jellroy.
