Especially between levels 20 and 40, Palworld opens up with a huge range of new regions and Pals to choose from. That makes it tricky to pick the best creatures, whether for combat, your base, or as a mount. If you’re after the best early-game Pals, read our guide here: (Palworld: The 10 Best Pals for the Perfect Start) . Today we’ll pick up from there and look at how to build your team and base for the mid-game. We’ll consider how easy they are to catch as well as overall balance.

Mossanda in the mid-game: base worker and powerful combat Pal
- Location: Verdant Brook
Let’s start with a few Pals that are especially useful around your base. Mossanda should be at the top of your list: this green panda really pulls its weight. Its base skills are outstanding, offering Lumbering, Handiwork and Planting at level 2, plus Transporting level 3. It also has a relatively low appetite. Altogether, that makes it a superb all-rounder for your base. Alternatively, you can ride it and make use of its grenade launcher in combat, which you unlock at level 24.
Digtoise in the mid-game: mining Pal for ore and materials
- Location: Twilight Dunes, Dessicated Desert (north)
Mining becomes increasingly important in the mid-game, so you’ll definitely want Digtoise. You can find it easily in the desert, and with Mining level 3 it outclasses most nearby Pals. That lets you gather ore and other materials in no time. Equip its headband, which you unlock at level 19. This lets Digtoise perform a spinning move that makes harvesting even easier.
Penking in the mid-game: all-rounder for base tasks
- Location: Wildlife Sanctuary No. 1, Verdant Brook and Astral Mountains (fishing)
If you’re after one of the very best base Pals, Penking is a top-tier choice. It can cover a lot of jobs, all at level 2. With Cooling, Handiwork, Watering, Mining, and Transporting, Penking is a true jack-of-all-trades for your base. Do note it’s quite hungry. In combat, its partner skill also yields more items from Fire Pals.
Incineram in the mid-game: kindling, transport and handiwork
- Location: Obsidian Mountain (southern beach)
If you venture from around level 30 towards the Obsidian Mountains, keep an eye out for Incineram. Its broad skill set makes it a great addition to any mid-game base. Kindling is especially handy if you’re running furnaces. It can also handle mining, transporting, and general handiwork. Plus it’s nocturnal, so it can keep working round the clock.

Warsect in the mid-game: top combat Pal well into the end-game
- Location: Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2
You’ll only be able to catch Warsect towards the end of the mid-game, but it’s well worth prioritising. Warsect is likely one of the strongest Pals in the entire game and will carry you well into the end-game. Its partner skill boosts defence in combat and reduces damage from Fire attacks. You won’t want to miss out on that.
Kitsun in the mid-game: mount and potent Fire fighter
- Location: Frostbound Mountain
The blue fox Kitsun is often underestimated, particularly in combat. But it can punch well above its weight and fits perfectly into a mid-game team. Its riding ability makes you immune to environmental effects such as heat and cold, which is a big advantage. And in terms of damage output, Kitsun absolutely keeps up. A good Kitsun will help in countless situations and unleash powerful flames.
Quivern in the mid-game: boost Dragon attacks and fight flexibly
- Location: Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2, Sakurajima
Quivern tends to be a late mid-game catch, but you can get it earlier and become incredibly strong. While its work skills make it useful at base, it truly shines in combat. It can learn a diverse set of multi-type attacks, making it useful in many scenarios. You unlock its saddle at level 36, and when mounted it boosts Dragon-type attacks.

Pyrin in the mid-game: fast mount with Fire bonus
- Location: Obsidian Mountain (east side)
One of the very best mid-game mounts is Pyrin, whose saddle you can get at level 31. Its ability converts all your attacks to Fire while mounted, which helps against Ice or Grass. It’s also one of the fastest Pals you can find at this stage. Pyrin is fairly rare, but we strongly recommend keeping an eye out for it.
Ragnahawk in the mid-game: best flying mount and base helper
- Location: Obsidian Mountain (west side)
If you prefer to take to the skies, unlock the saddle for Ragnahawk at technology level 37. It’s one of the best Pals for aerial traversal and will serve you well into the end-game. Like Pyrin, it converts attacks to Fire while mounted. It’s also solid at base, with Kindling and Transporting level 3. Ragnahawk is a genuine all-rounder.
Galeclaw in the mid-game: best glider Pal with weapon use
- Location: Bamboo Groves, Crescent Moon Shore
Finally, for gliding, Galeclaw is an easy recommendation. It’s fairly easy to find, and you can unlock its gloves at level 23 for just one point. They let you glide faster and also use weapons — no other Pal in this category allows that. If you’re heading out exploring, Galeclaw should always be by your side.
Conclusion: optimise your mid-game team and base
The mid-game opens up Palworld in a big way, and you’ll encounter many new Pals. Hopefully we’ve helped you identify the right ones to catch and assign to different roles. Some excel at base tasks, while others are better suited to combat. You can also breed them to create top Pals with strong passive skills, squeezing even more performance out of your squad.
