In Palworld you can search for over 150 different monsters and use them for fighting, working or breeding. Early on, however, you can only find and deploy certain Pals, so you should decide which ones to prioritise. The right monsters at your side can simplify your first tasks and support you with useful abilities. In the end, you should balance this with your own play style and choose the Pals that suit you. Do you prefer fighting? Building a base? Or do you love exploring? The right partners are crucial!

Cattiva: Top transport and gathering Pal to start with
Cattiva is arguably Palworld’s unofficial mascot and one of the first monsters you’ll encounter. You’ll find this pink, cat-like creature in the starting area more than often enough, so it’s worth catching several and putting them to work. It can handle Gathering, Mining and general Handiwork. Its biggest perk, though, is Transporting, as its Partner Skill grants +50 carry weight. It’s not especially useful in combat, but it’s an excellent worker.
Foxparks: Fire Pal for early combat and crafting
You should catch and use Foxparks, the red fox wreathed in flames, for different reasons. As a worker it can use Kindling, an essential ability to power some of your first workstations with fire. Use Foxparks to fuel campfires or furnaces. It’s also great for your first fights, as when equipped it turns into a living flamethrower. On top of that, it can keep you warm when you’re cold.

Lifmunk: Gardening, healing potions and strong base support
For your first gardening tasks, grab this small green monster. Lifmunk appears all over the starting area, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding it. Thanks to its versatile work skills you can use it perfectly in your first base, primarily for sowing and harvesting fields. Lifmunk specialises in Medicine Production (healing potions), so breeding it is worthwhile too. In combat, it can summon a pistol and perch on your head.
Daedream: Nocturnal fighter with powerful turret support
Daedream is a nocturnal Pal you should definitely catch. Stay up until nightfall and sweep the starting area to find it. Daedream is a particularly strong early-game fighter, with solid stats and attacks. Even without direct engagement it can run alongside you and provide covering fire with turret support. Its attacks also focus on close range, making your first battles even easier.

Chillet: Early mount with Ice and Dragon damage
Chillet is a blue ferret adapted to water. With its Ice and Dragon type combination, it’s quite special and therefore a fantastic Pal for your starter team. It’s very handy in combat, especially when you ride it. It’s one of the earliest Pals you can use for overland travel. Unlock its saddle at Technology level 13 and ride it across Palpagos Island. While riding, your attacks deal additional Dragon damage.
Dinossom: Area damage and Grass power for your team
If you want to go into battle with even more punch, Dinossom is one of your best partners. It’s relatively easy to find early on and fits perfectly into your team. Its attacks deal a lot of damage and hit enemies in an area around the target. Later, you can ride Dinossom as well, but you only unlock the saddle at Technology level 19. This boosts Grass-type attacks. At work, it can handle Planting and Lumbering, both at Lv. 2.

Vixy: Spheres, gold and arrows for your farm
You’ll also find Vixy in the starting area, but only during the day and a bit rarer than other Pals. You should pick one up early and put it on your Ranch, as it can dig up Pal Spheres for you. It can also find gold and arrows, making it a handy little creature for your ranch. It’s not particularly good in combat, but it excels at digging up spheres. And those are important, because we recommend catching as many Pals as possible. 12 of each Pal grant an XP bonus.
Tanzee: Versatile all-rounder for gathering and combat
Like Cattiva, Tanzee is one of the best all-rounders early in Palworld. The green monkey is common both day and night and helps you with a range of abilities. It can gather, lumber, do handiwork, plant and carry. That covers pretty much all the essentials for your first base. In combat, Tanzee isn’t bad either, as it can summon a machine gun.

Tombat: Dark nocturnal worker focused on ore and transport
Tombat is a nocturnal bat of the Dark type and a great upgrade for your team. It’s a bit stronger than most other Pals in its region, making it great for combat. It’s also worth using at your base, as it has Level 2 in Gathering, Mining and Transport. This lets you, for example, find rarer ores and get tougher jobs done. Tombat also works at night. Thanks to its ultrasound ability, it can locate nearby Pals on command.
Eikthyrdeer: Fast mount with double jump and Lumbering Lv. 2
The majestic Eikthyrdeer is not the easiest to find and capture, but it’s worth keeping an eye out for the purple deer. From Technology level 12 you can unlock its saddle and ride it across the island. It’s one of the best mounts, as it can also double-jump. With its charge attack and Lumbering Lv. 2, you can turn forests into kindling in seconds. In combat, this ability is also great for capturing weaker Pals.
Conclusion: The best Pals for the perfect start to Palworld
In Palworld you should catch many different Pals and use them as diversely as possible. Cattiva, Lifmunk or Tanzee help you build your base, craft items or tend your fields. By contrast, Pals such as Daedream, Foxparks or Tombat are excellent fighters. For overland travel, we recommend Eikthyrdeer or Chillet.
