In Palworld you can get around not only on foot but also with the help of Pals. At first, you will most likely use Pals as land mounts by unlocking and crafting Saddles in the Technologies. Focus only on Pal gear that is truly worth it. Not every mount is equally good: Pals differ in speed as well as in their locations and capture methods. That’s why it’s important to know the best mounts in Palworld for each stage of the game and to avoid wasting time or technology points on saddles you won’t use.

Palworld mounts in the early game: locations, saddles and speed

Palworld early-game mounts overview: Direhowl, Chillet and Univolt

Direhowl: locations, saddle level and speed

  • Location: Forgotten Island, Ice Wind Island, Bamboo Groves (east coast), Sea Breeze Archipelago, Eastern Wild Island
  • Saddle unlock level: 9
  • Speed: 800 - 1050

Direhowl is probably the best mount for your first few hours in Palworld. You can unlock its saddle very early, at level 9, and the Pal itself is common, making it easy to capture. It’s also one of the fastest Pals you can find in the starting areas. If you had to pick just one mount early on, we’d recommend Direhowl.

Chillet: locations, saddle level and combat advantages

  • Location: Frostbound Mountain, Astral Mountain (southern coast)
  • Saddle unlock level: 13
  • Speed: 750 - 1050

Thanks to its cute looks, Chillet is one of the best early-game mounts. It’s easy to find if you head north into the mountainous regions from spawn. It’s just as fast as Direhowl and also converts your mounted attacks to Dragon-type. That gives you a clear edge in combat, especially against Dark-type foes. You can further boost the element’s power via Pal Condensation.

Univolt: electric mount with great top speed and base utility

  • Location: Bamboo Groves (north-west)
  • Saddle unlock level: 14
  • Speed: 720 - 1100

Univolt is a solid upgrade over Direhowl, though much rarer. If you want to lean into Electric attacks, it’s an excellent choice and well worth the search. Its Partner Skill lets you ride it and converts all your attacks to Electric-type while mounted. It also has a slightly higher top speed than Direhowl. Back at your base, Univolt can be assigned to generate electricity, which is a strong bonus.

Palworld mid-game mounts: the best upgrades

Palworld mid-game mounts overview: Eikthyrdeer Terra, Fenglope and Pyrin

Eikthyrdeer Terra: double jump and wood gathering

  • Location: Wildlife Sanctuary No. 1
  • Saddle unlock level: 25
  • Speed: 700 - 900

Eikthyrdeer can’t quite match the earlier Pals for raw speed, but that doesn’t make it a poor choice. Its mounted ability gives you a double jump, letting you reach places that were previously off-limits. That makes it very mobile. Even more practical is its ability to gather wood by ramming. If you’re short on wood, use Eikthyrdeer for this purpose.

Fenglope: very fast with double jump and farming potential

  • Location: Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3, Mount Obsidian (southern coast)
  • Saddle unlock level: 26
  • Speed: 750 - 1050

Even better is investing your tech points into Fenglope’s saddle. It unlocks just one level later and is usually the superior choice. Fenglope can also double jump, but is noticeably faster overall. It excels at hitting and defeating small, weak Pals while sprinting, letting you gather items from them more easily without having to dismount and fight.

Pyrin: top speed and powerful fire attacks

  • Location: Mount Obsidian (east side)
  • Saddle unlock level: 31
  • Speed: 850 - 1300

Pyrin is even nimbler—one of the best mid-game mounts for pure speed. You can find it and its Noct variant around Mount Obsidian, so it’s not hard to locate. While riding, Pyrin converts your attacks to Fire-type, which is handy against Grass and Ice. As with other element conversions, you can boost it via Pal Condensation.

Palworld mounts in the late game: fastest mounts and rare finds

Palworld late-game mounts overview: Necromus, Paladius, Azurmane and Silvegis

Necromus and Paladius: highest speed and jump options

  • Location: Dungeon in the north of the Desiccated Desert
  • Saddle unlock level: 49
  • Speed: 1300 - 1900 (Paladius 800 - 1800)

Necromus and Paladius are two sides of the same coin—among the fastest Pals in the entire game. Necromus is faster but can only double jump. Paladius is slower but has a unique triple jump. The choice is yours. You unlock both saddles at the same level, and both Pals can be found in the same place.

Azurmane: dash and strong mobility in the endgame

  • Location: Feybreak Island
  • Saddle unlock level: 56
  • Speed: 900 - 1260

Azurmane is a great alternative because, unlike Necromus and Paladius, it’s much easier to find. You’ll encounter this mount all over Feybreak. It’s among the fastest Pals in the game, though still slower than the two above. You do give up a double jump, but Azurmane can dash. Don’t underestimate this—it’s excellent for manoeuvring and also serves as a strong defensive dodge in combat.

Silvegis: shield, offensive options and safe traversal

  • Location: Dungeon on Feybreak Island (Alpha boss)
  • Saddle unlock level: 58
  • Speed: 700 - 1050

Silvegis isn’t the quickest mount compared to other late-game options, but that doesn’t make it weak. It really shines in combat. While riding, its Aegis Charge creates a shield around you, protecting you from damage. At the same time, the charge can be used offensively. That makes Silvegis a fantastic tank and a reliable Pal for dicey situations. Speed isn’t the only factor that defines a great mount.

Conclusion: how to traverse Palpagos Island quickly

Riding a Pal across Palpagos Island is one of the best ways to get around. From start to finish you’ll discover new mounts and unlock new Saddles. Choosing can be tough, with over 70 ridable Pals available. Focus on the mounts you like most and those that grant special abilities. Whether it’s double jumps, elemental attack types or ramming attacks, the skills are varied and unique.

If you want to use one of these Pals as a mount, why not rent one of our Palworld servers. You can also team up with friends there and debate which Pal you prefer.
