The Ultimate Guide to Minecraft Bastion Remnants in the Nether

The Nether is a dark, hellish dimension in Minecraft full of surprises. While most players are likely familiar with the standard Nether Fortresses, Bastion Remnants are less well-known and can surprise both new and returning players. These structures, made of basalt and blackstone, are perfect for advanced players seeking a significant challenge. Today, we’ll take a closer look at how you can find, raid, and secure the best loot from these structures.

Introduction to Bastion Remnants in Minecraft

Minecraft Bastion Remnants in the Nether

The Bastions were likely once home to the Piglins, who roam throughout the Nether as its natural inhabitants. Over many decades, however, the structures have decayed, leaving only ruins that can be found in the Nether. While Piglins and other monsters can still be found there, the ravages of time have taken their toll on the imposing Bastions.

There are a total of four different types of Bastion Remnants you can discover, and you should explore them all to secure the best loot!

  • Bridge: This is the smallest structure of all the Bastions. The bridge is easily recognizable and runs through the structure. If you look closely, you might even spot a face!
  • Hoglin Stables: As the name suggests, these were once stables for Hoglins. Accordingly, they are teeming with them. This variant consists of three floors and two tall towers that you should definitely explore.
  • Housing Units: The Piglins’ dwellings are very maze-like and can be somewhat confusing to explore. However, they are the only place besides Nether Fortresses where you can also find Nether Wart.
  • Treasure Room: This Bastion Remnant is likely the one most players should seek out. It consists of two large sections connected by a bridge. The grand Treasure Room is a kind of adventure chamber with great loot and even a Magma Cube spawner at its centre! However, getting to the bottom isn’t easy.

How to Find Bastion Remnants in the Nether

How to find Bastion Remnants in the Nether

The generation of Bastion Remnants is interesting as it depends on Nether Fortresses. Approximately 60% of all Fortresses are converted into Bastions when your Minecraft world is created. The Basalt Delta biome is excluded, as its basalt blocks would make it very difficult to spot the ruins. For example, riding a Strider on one of the large lava lakes is a good way to explore the Nether.

In basic terms, you’ll find Bastion Remnants simply by exploring the Nether. The large structures should be hard to miss. You can also use external map tools like Chunkbase to locate corresponding ruins through your seed. Unfortunately, there are no direct in-game methods (such as maps from Villagers) to find the Bastion Remnants.

Tactics for Combat in Bastion Remnants

Surprisingly, despite being ruins, the Bastions are quite lively. You’ll encounter some of the strongest monsters in the game here, so prepare accordingly for your visit. Once you’ve found a Bastion, you should set your spawn point in the Nether with a Respawn Anchor. As you’re likely to die, use several chests to store your loot.

Your basic equipment should include good Diamond or Netherite armour, along with a sword or an axe. A bow is also indispensable! It doesn’t hurt to bring some fire resistance potions, as you might fall into lava in the jagged ruins.

These monsters await you:

  • Piglin Brutes: The Brutes are among the strongest opponents in the normal game and can kill you in two hits if you’re not careful. Use a bow to take them out from a distance. Alternatively, you can trap them in boats and then kill them in close combat. However, be cautious not to get too close, as they can still attack you.
  • Piglins: Piglins should be familiar from the Nether. A piece of gold armour helps only until you’re attacked. A bow is probably your best defence!
  • Hoglins: Hoglins typically inhabit the Crimson Forests but can also be found in Bastion Remnants. They primarily appear in the stables but also in any ruins adjacent to a Crimson Forest. They pack quite a punch and can kill you faster than you’d like. Use a shield for defence or build up three blocks to avoid damage.
  • Magma Cubes: Magma Cubes spawn in the Treasure Room and will try to push you into the lava. They can be killed with simple sword strikes. The spawner is useful for building a Frog Light farm (Discover Frog Varieties and Build an Automatic Frog Light Farm in Minecraft) .
  • Ghasts: If you’re lucky (or unlucky), Ghasts can spawn in the Treasure Rooms of Bastion Remnants. Once again, the bow is your best weapon!

The Valuable Loot of Bastion Remnants

Naturally, the question arises as to why you should seek out the Bastion Remnants. After all, they’re not easy to find, and the battles can be quite challenging! But for the loot available in the four variations of the ruins, a venture is certainly worthwhile. Some items can only be found here, and it’s also one of the best methods to obtain Netherite.

This loot can be found in Bastion Remnants:

  • Full gold blocks (some are immediately visible, others hidden behind walls)
  • Lodestone (a kind of compass for the Nether, guaranteed in some chests)
  • Netherite Ingots, Netherite Scraps & Ancient Debris (perfect for your armour and tools)
  • Music Disc “Pigstep” (Minecraft Records: All Locations & How to Build an Automatic Farm)
  • Snout Banner Pattern (also only found here)
  • Rib Armour Trim (exclusive smithing template)
  • Netherite Upgrade (for upgrading with Netherite)
  • Diamonds and diamond tools (some enchanted)
  • Spectral Arrows (give opponents a yellow outline)
  • Gilded Blackstone (stylish decorative block)
  • Golden Apples & Golden Carrots

Conclusion on Bastion Remnants for Minecraft Adventurers

Bastion Remnants are perfect for testing your skills as an advanced Minecraft player. Explore the Nether and find all four variations to secure the best loot. Rent your own Minecraft server with us and fight your way through the ruins together. It can be quite challenging to defeat the Piglin Brutes alone. But for some of the exclusive items, such as the armour templates, the music disc “Pigstep,” or the banner pattern, a visit is definitely worthwhile!
