Discover Minecraft Animals: Rabbits, Camels, and Goats

Minecraft’s game world is incredibly lively and especially exciting to explore due to its natural diversity. This includes a whole host of animals that you can find in various biomes. While we covered pandas, dolphins, and foxes in the first part of this article series, today we’ll take a closer look at the cute rabbits, the large camels, and the tricky goats! If you want to complete your collection of animals for achievements or just for your farm, make sure to keep an eye out for them.

Rabbits: Cute Pets with Valuable Items

Rabbits in Minecraft

Rabbits have been a long-desired addition for many players. They were finally added to the game with the 1.8 update and can be found in various biomes! They love to hop around but are very skittish, running away from both players and monsters.

You can find rabbits in six different colours:

  • Gold: Desert
  • White: Snow biomes
  • Black: Taiga & Forests
  • Black-White: Snow biomes
  • Brown: Taiga & Forests
  • Brown-spotted: Taiga & Forests

You can, of course, bring rabbits back to your base and tame them there. Use a lead to keep them in a pen. You can breed them by feeding two rabbits carrots, golden carrots, or dandelions.

Rabbits also have some unique drops you can obtain:

  • They drop rabbit hide, which can be crafted into leather. You can also trade it with a villager for emeralds. Unfortunately, you cannot (currently) craft bundles from it.

  • Raw rabbit is a good food source and can be turned into rabbit stew with mushrooms, a potato, and a carrot.

  • Rabbit’s foot is the rarest drop and can be used to brew a potion of leaping.

Lastly, there are two fun Easter eggs associated with Minecraft’s rabbits. You can rename a rabbit “Toast” with a name tag, and it will receive a unique coat colour. This secret was added in honour of a Reddit user. The second and more well-known Easter egg is the Killer Rabbit, which you can only spawn in Java using commands. It is extremely aggressive and is a nod to the film “Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” It should be approached with caution as it can kill you in two hits!

Camels: The Rulers of the Desert

Camels in Minecraft

Camels haven’t been in Minecraft for long and are not particularly common. You can find them in desert villages and, occasionally, in the regular desert. Much like in real life, they are very large but quite slow. They like to sit around and enjoy the warm weather!

As the newest mountable animal, camels come with several new features. You can lead them with a lead and breed them with cacti to get more camels. Unlike horses, all camels have the same stats. If you give them a saddle, you can ride them without even needing to tame them—they obey you immediately!

When riding a camel, you can enjoy these features:

  • You can ride with another player, not just alone.

  • They can walk through water three blocks deep, unlike horses, which can only manage two blocks. This makes them surprisingly good for exploration.

  • Camels can’t jump high but can walk over 1.5-block-high obstacles like fences or walls.

  • They also have a sort of dash, which you can charge up by holding the space bar. Watch your XP bar and release at the right moment to jump 9 to 10 blocks forward. This allows you to cross small rivers or ravines with ease.

  • Thanks to their size, camels are great for avoiding monster attacks. Even Endermen can’t reach you! However, beware of jumping spiders and skeleton arrows.

Goats: Cunning Mountain Dwellers

Goats in Minecraft

Goats have not been in Minecraft for long either, but they pack a punch! You can find them in three mountain regions: frozen peaks, snowy slopes, and jagged peaks. They often gather in smaller groups and enjoy leaping through the air, reaching a height of 10 blocks and a width of 5 blocks per jump. They like to seek out the highest point in their biome.

You can breed goats normally with wheat. About two percent of all spawned or bred goats are a screaming goat, which has different sounds and is generally more aggressive. Goats will try to knock you away with their horns if you stand still for too long.

Apart from milk, goats are especially known for their horns, which are why the sound of such a horn is heard during a pillager raid. There are a total of eight different variants of these goat horns, four regular (Feel, Seek, Sing, Ponder) and four from screaming goats (Yearn, Dream, Call, Admire). Each makes different sounds! Goats can spawn with no, one, or two horns and will drop as many as they have left. Additionally, both horns are always the same.

To find all eight goat horn variants, you can build a simple farm:

  1. Gather enough regular and screaming goats in a pen.
  2. Lure the goats with armour stands, ensuring they run into a block first. You can use wood logs, packed ice, stone, or some ores for this.
  3. Use one of these blocks above a piston, activated by a pressure plate. When the goat runs towards the armour stand and steps on the plate, it will hit the block and drop its horn.
  4. You can use Allays to automatically collect the horns. (Minecraft Allay Guide: Locations, Tasks and More)

Conclusion

Minecraft’s animal diversity has grown significantly in recent years, which is why players may occasionally lose track. However, each animal species has its unique traits and brings new game mechanics. So, you should definitely set out to explore this rich fauna! Additionally, you can rent your own Minecraft server with us and embark on a quest to find some of these animals together. Find all the rabbit variants, ride together on the back of a camel, or let screaming goats knock you off a mountain peak.
