After just under a month, the third major Hytale update has already landed. It’s clear the developers are hard at work, refining existing features and acting on community feedback with many of the most-requested changes since release. From grass spread to animal taming, Update 3 packs plenty of surprises. We’ll take a closer look at the biggest additions and where to find them in-game.
Hytale animal taming and capturing: guide

Animal husbandry in Hytale could certainly use more updates, but this is a strong first step towards proper livestock management: you can now lure and befriend various creatures with their favourite food. When you try to tame them, they’ll show you the required item with a speech bubble above their head. Breeding isn’t possible yet, but that’ll likely follow soon!
Benefits of tamed animals:
- can be lured with their favourite food
- are easier to pen in and won’t run off
- can be petted
- will greet you occasionally as you pass by
- produce items like eggs, milk or wool (they’ll do this untamed as well, but it’s easier when tamed)
Hytale map: set and share your own map markers

The in-game map has also been updated. Several icons were refreshed, and you can now add your own symbols, label them with names, and assign a matching colour. This makes it easy to mark interesting locations and tell them apart at a glance. You can also share points with other players on a server or delete them later.
Hytale sickle: harvest fields faster

To speed up your harvests, Hytale now includes the right tool for the job. The Farmer’s Workbench features a recipe for a handheld tool you can swing around you, allowing you to harvest multiple crops at once. This is handy for large fields and saves a lot of time, since pulling each vegetable out of the ground individually takes ages. There’s only a basic sickle for now, but upgrades with higher durability will surely follow!
Hytale flamethrower in Creative mode: fire mechanics tested

In Creative mode, you’ll now find a flamethrower — an impressive weapon that can also cause devastating damage. Flames spread extremely quickly, and once a patch of forest is on fire, it’s hard to stop. No wonder the flamethrower is currently limited to Creative.
A neat detail: fire turns ordinary logs into charred logs. Later on, you won’t need to travel to Zone 4 to get them. The blackened wood is great for building. Let’s see when the flamethrower makes its way into Survival.
Hytale grass spread: dirt gets overgrown again

Another frequent request was for dirt to be overgrown by grass. Previously, you could craft grass blocks from dirt and fibres, but it was rather tedious. Now dirt will gradually green over again — just as you know from Minecraft. It’s much quicker and means no more ugly dirt patches to fill or replace by hand. It seems the system doesn’t yet work with every grass type, but those bugs will likely be ironed out.
Hytale ropes: better climbing and movement

Rope climbing has been reworked and significantly expanded. It can now be a genuine alternative to stairs or ladders, freeing up space in your base. You can stop mid-rope, leap off, climb faster, and even rotate 360 degrees. This gives you far more mobility and makes ropes a brilliant tool in your kit — perfect for caves to traverse steep ravines, for example.
Hytale character customisation and saving presets

The main menu also brings a few changes. As in the previous update, there are new options to customise your character, including new hairstyles, shoes, faces and beards. You can now save five presets to load later. So if you play solo, you can keep a different skin ready for multiplayer. It’s possible the save slots will be expanded to 10 or more in future.
Hytale Update 3 highlights and quality of life
These are just the headline changes — there are many smaller tweaks you’ll only notice while playing. You can read the full patch notes on the official site. To round off, here are some improvements we found notable that many players will appreciate.
- Bows and crossbows can now draw arrows directly from your backpack. That frees up a slot in your main inventory.
- Summoning undead has been improved: they no longer damage you, and there are Rangers too.
- Better inventory management with keybinds for stashing and sorting.
- Several workbench tweaks. For example, the chicken coop was reduced from tier 5 to 3. Crafting times were adjusted as well.
- Dough is now easier to craft without wasting water. Make cups so water sources aren’t depleted.
- A few new stone blocks (limestone) and updated ore textures, especially cobalt.
- Adjustments to enemy spawns across various zones and locations.
- New furnace model for both tiers.
- General performance and systems improvements.
