In Hytale, you’re not only focused on your own goals — the game also offers systems that spur you on. One of these is collecting Memories for the Forgotten Temple, which grants you some great rewards. This not only ensures you’ll see every creature in the game at least once, but also nudges you to explore every corner of the map. It helps you check whether you’ve missed anything, as Hytale is full of surprises! Today we’ll take a closer look at Memories, how to unlock them, fill them, and what rewards you’ll receive.

Unlocking Hytale Memories in the Forgotten Temple

Hytale Forgotten Temple and portal to the Heart of Orbis

When you create a new world in Hytale, you can’t collect Memories right away. First, you need to head to the Forgotten Temple and step through the portal to reach the “Heart of Orbis”. You can defeat the golem or simply ignore it and go through the portal. The Heart is the statue at the centre of the world — you should interact with it. From then on, you can collect Memories in the regular overworld.

You collect Memories by being near a creature. That can be sheep or rabbits, but also monsters like skeletons or the golem guarding the portal. In essence, anything that lives is recorded. You’ll see a small message each time you collect a Memory. They’re stored in your inventory, in the second section below the crafting recipes and above the backpack. You can carry up to 48 Memories; after that you must return to the statue to deposit them.

In total there are (as of Update 3) 241 Memories to collect. However, not all of them are currently available in the game — at the moment you can collect 219 Memories. These comprise a wide range of animals, monsters and other creatures. But why should you collect them in the first place?

Hytale Memories: Tips for finding every species

Discovering Hytale creatures and species for all Memories

Collecting all 219 Memories currently available is certainly no easy task. While the first few hours won’t pose much of a challenge, later ones will be much harder to find. For example, you can already find 10 Memories in the world of the Forgotten Temple by tracking down the creatures there. So grab the first reward right away.

The more you explore, the more Memories you’ll uncover. Some of these creatures are not only well hidden but also extremely rare. Here are some pointers for each of the 18 species to help you find them all.

  • Abyssal: Aquatic creatures such as eels found in the ocean depths.
  • Avian: Birds from all biomes that can be hard to reach. Search high mountains or wait for them to land.
  • Critter: Various small creatures, including mice, snakes and frogs. Fairly easy to find.
  • Elemental: Includes the golems of the Forgotten Temples and some smaller elemental mobs. Some are not yet available.
  • Feran: Fox-like beings you can encounter in the desert.
  • Freshwater: To find fish, dive underwater. Check coastal areas in every biome for aquatic life, including jellyfish.
  • Goblin: Often spawn in caves, frequently behind you. Also found in Goblin Lairs in Zone 1.
  • Kweebec: The cute inhabitants of Orbis, found in their villages in Zone 1.
  • Livestock: One of the largest groups, primarily farm animals and other common mobs. Note that baby animals also count.
  • Mythic: Very rare monsters: currently Yeti and Ice Dragon in Zone 3, and Emberwulf and Wraith in Zone 4.
  • Outlander: Quite easy to encounter if you attack Outlander camps in Zone 3.
  • Predator: All regular animals that attack you, including bears and wolves.
  • Reptile: A colourful mix of reptiles — some from the desert, others from the jungles and the caves in Zone 4. Also includes nasty toads with their tongues.
  • Scarak: The nasty insects from Zone 2, though some of them are still buggy.
  • Trork: Large trolls you can find in their camps in Zone 1.
  • Undead: The largest group of monsters; consists mainly of skeletons of all kinds. Each zone has several variants (Burnt, Sandswept, Incandescent, Frost), which is why there are so many Memories.
  • Voidspawn: All monsters that spawn at night and drop Essence of Void.
  • Voidtaken: Currently only one mob, but not yet available in Exploration Mode.

Conclusion: Collecting Hytale Memories and unlocking features

Memories in Hytale are a great incentive to explore every nook and cranny of the world of Orbis. With 219 creatures currently available, you’ll certainly have to travel far to discover them all. Remember you can only carry 48 Memories at a time. Visit the Forgotten Temple regularly to deposit them at the statue and unlock new rewards.
