Hytale may be a game that’s primarily about survival, but players who prefer building will have plenty to love as well. That’s thanks to its expansive and sophisticated Creative mode, which you can already try out. It leaves Minecraft’s native Creative mode looking dated, offering far more and feeling far more intuitive, with prompts, hints and tips that make building and creating easier. Getting started can still feel a touch overwhelming, so we’re taking a closer look at the mode and showing you which tools are available.
Hytale Creative mode explained: how to start in Creative mode

As in Minecraft, Creative mode is primarily designed for building and for creating your own world without restrictions. You have access to all blocks, you’re invulnerable, and you can even fly. In that sense, it should feel familiar.
You can create a world in Creative mode by selecting it in the start menu. As with normal worlds, you can also adjust further settings via the cog and add mods. However, everything we’re showing you today works entirely without mods!
When you load into the world, you’ll start at the “Crossroads”. There you can choose between three worlds:
- a Superflat world
- a normal map with the currently known zones
- a world with a tundra biome using world generation v2
You can step through any portal, and you can return to the hub later by typing /hub in the chat (open with Enter). That lets you, for example, assemble builds in the flat world first and then transfer them to a normal world.
Hytale Creative mode tools: all tools at a glance

Once you’ve picked a world, pretty much everything is already at your disposal. A look at your inventory shows there’s a lot to explore. Hytale gives creative players a huge number of practical tools, which you’ll want to get to grips with. We’ll go through them step by step, though we do recommend simply trying things out and discovering some features for yourself.
Hytale blocks, decorations and equipment in Creative mode

First, let’s look at the standard inventory, as there’s plenty to see here already. You can choose between four different tabs, divided into categories: Blocks, Decorations, Equipment and Tools.
Let’s focus on the first three sections. You’ll recognise this menu from Minecraft: it’s where you can find every block currently in the game, including plenty of items you can’t yet obtain in normal Survival. Each of the three menus has its own categories in the bar below, where you can find virtually any item. You can also use the search on the right to look for specific things.
Simply drag the item you want into your hotbar and you’re ready to build to your heart’s content. It’s intuitive and probably the simplest thing you’ll do in Hytale’s Creative mode.
Hytale terrain tools and brushes: precise world manipulation

Hytale gets interesting and complex when you open the fourth tab. Here you’ll find various tools that let you manipulate the world around you. We’ll focus on just the first three subcategories, as some of the later sections aren’t functional yet.
You can customise every tool via the panel on the right. That includes size and width, which blocks are used, and many other settings. This lets you build highly complex tools and your own custom presets. You’ll also see a hint panel on the left for each tool, listing all the keybindings.

The first category contains some of your most important tools:
- Entity Tool: Arguably the most powerful tool in the entire game! Spawn almost any creature, item, block and prefab from Hytale, rotate and modify them as you wish, and place them freely in the world.
- Paint Brush Tool: Paint your world with any block you choose.
- Paste Tool: Choose from Hytale’s large catalogue of entities and place them in your world.
- Selection Tool: Select parts of your world, then move, copy or delete them.
The second category focuses on general terrain manipulation, with detailed adjustments using Extrude, Noise and Smooth. It’s well worth experimenting to see how each option affects the world.
That ties in with the third category, where you can further shape terrain and pick from a range of prebuilt assets. As mentioned, you can customise these, use different blocks or assemble your own brushes. You can create mountains, carve rivers or lay paths in no time.
Hytale commands, spawns and quick settings

To finish up, let’s look at a few more Creative mode details. In the inventory, you can configure Quick Settings on the right when you’re not holding a tool. There you can set your flight speed, enable No Clip, or adjust your arm’s reach. You can also teleport by selecting any location on the map.
Press B to open another menu for more advanced creative tools. In the top bar you can edit assets (separate programme) or browse and spawn all kinds of prefabs, entities, particles or sounds. Hytale gives you incredible freedom, as everything in the game is assembled within the game itself.
Under Help you’ll also find all the commands you can enter in chat with Enter. These can give your world that final polish when you’re after a specific function.
Conclusion on Hytale’s Creative mode: a builder’s dream
Even without mods, Hytale’s Creative mode already offers endless ways to create your dream world. You can pick any block in the game and manipulate it to your liking, place it freely without a grid, and work directly at a fine level of detail. Landscaping is no problem either thanks to the terrain tools. You also have access to all of Hytale’s prefabricated assets, which you can place however you like.
Of course, you can use Creative mode in multiplayer too — simply choose your own Hytale server with us and get started! There’s an incredible amount to discover, and you can create a beautiful world together with friends.
