Hytale Alchemist's & Arcanist's Workbench Guide: Potions, Portals, Magic

Hytale Alchemist's & Arcanist's Workbench Guide: Potions, Portals, Magic

The world of Hytale is steeped in magic, and you can harness it yourself by unlocking both the Alchemist’s and Arcanist’s Workbenches. These give you the first building blocks for working with magical elements in Hytale, and more will likely follow in future updates. Even now, both benches are worth a closer look, as they hide several late‑game items, including the all‑important portals. There are a few more things to uncover too, and that’s exactly what we’ll explore today.

Hytale Alchemist’s Workbench: Brewing potions and upgrades

Hytale Alchemist's Workbench crafting: materials and costs

You can craft the Alchemist’s Workbench at the standard workbench, but it’s one of the last things you can currently unlock. You’ll mainly need gold, which isn’t easy to find.

You will need:

  • 20x Stone
  • 5x Gold Bars
  • 10x Poison Sacks
  • 10x Bone Fragments

Most options on this bench are available from the start, but you can unlock a few extras with an upgrade to Tier 2.

Upgrade to Tier 2:

  • 20x Silver Bars
  • 10x Gold Bars
  • 10x Boom Powder
  • 50x Bone Fragments

The Alchemist’s Workbench currently offers three categories. They’re still a bit rudimentary, but they already deliver some compelling features. The focus is on potions, but there are also bombs that could prove decisive in combat. Let’s take a closer look.

Hytale potions: healing, stamina, antidote

Brewing healing potions and buffs in Hytale

If you’d rather not rely on food for sustain, potions are a solid alternative. There are small potions of Healing, Attack Energy, and Stamina. To brew them, smelt sand in a furnace to make empty glass bottles. You’ll also need specific plants from the Blood, Azure, and Storm families. There’s also an Antidote for quickly curing poison.

At Tier 2 you can brew larger variants of each. They’re pricier, as you’ll need to craft the small potions as well. You can obtain seeds for the magical plants, but they are extremely rare.

Transformation potions: turn into animals (no gameplay benefit)

The second tab is all about fun potions that let you transform into an animal of your choice. You can choose between dog, pigeon, frog, and mouse. To unlock this, you must first restore 50 Memories in the Forgotten Temple. Learn more in our article Find Hytale Memories: locations, tips, and rewards. The transformation lasts one minute and offers no notable advantages.

Crafting bombs: cherry bombs for combat

Finally, the Alchemist’s Workbench lets you craft cherry bombs. These are small, throwable explosives that let you attack enemies from range. They’re not especially strong, but they can deal damage and keep foes at bay. They’re made from wild berries, fibres, and Boom Powder.

Arcanist’s Workbench: portals, Ancient Gateway, and magic

Hytale Arcanist's Workbench crafting: portals and magic

The Arcanist’s Workbench is probably the most expensive bench to craft right now. It’s definitely aimed at advanced players, as it hides several powerful tools for your Hytale world.

You will need:

  • 10x Thorium Bars
  • 30x Linen
  • 20x Essence of the Void

There’s currently no upgrade, but some features only unlock with Memories. Either way, you’ll want to travel, as many of the Arcanist’s Workbench functions truly shine once you do. More content will almost certainly arrive in future, but even now it’s worth crafting the various items.

Hytale Ancient Gateway fragments and new worlds

Crafting portals for fast travel

The portals you can craft at the Arcanist’s Workbench are likely the most important items here. They let you travel around your world. Gather Azure logs and kelp to craft them. At first you can use up to 5 portals; with more Memories you can place up to 10.

Place at least two portals in your world to link them. You can interact with a portal and choose where it should teleport to. For example, place one at your base and another in the desert or the ice biome, then choose your destination. Portals are extremely handy for fast travel from A to B.

Ancient Gateway: use fragments to visit other worlds

There’s another portal on this bench: the Ancient Gateway. Combined with a fragment, it lets you travel to other worlds. These showcase the upcoming world generation in Hytale and can be entered for a limited time. You can only unlock them once you have 100 Memories.

Currently, there are three fragments:

  • Orbis – The Dread Wade
  • Orbis – Dragonspire Weald
  • Orbis – Windrider Valley

These temporary worlds are perfect for gathering extra resources without travelling far. They may also hide secrets and rare items. Each time you open a world it is freshly generated, though you only ever explore a small slice of it.

Note: The ancient portals are still a bit buggy, so they may not always work as expected. You can still give them a try.

Crafting magical staves and totems

The second section of the Arcanist’s Workbench will appeal to players who enjoy combat. Here you can craft two staves and two totems to support you in battle.

The staves are themed around ice and fire and use the respective essence as a kind of ammunition. That can be costly, but it’s also very strong. Like melee weapons, they have multiple attack patterns. For example, the Flame Crystal Staff can spew fire. You must have the essences in your inventory to attack.

You can also craft totems, one for healing and one for slowing. Once crafted, they can be used indefinitely, but they have a cooldown. You throw them onto the ground, where they take effect. Their names make the effects clear. They can certainly help in combat, but they’re not exactly cheap to produce.

Conclusion: master magic, portals, and potions in Hytale

Hytale packs in plenty of features that unlock as you progress. Both the Alchemist’s and Arcanist’s Workbenches are geared towards advanced players, as they often require rare items. The hunt is worth it, though: both benches are excellent for survival play, whether through fast‑travel portals, alternative healing, or new weapon types.

You can try all of this yourself by renting one of our Hytale servers. Play together with friends and always be ready when a new update lands.
