Enshrouded Update 7 Wake of the Water: complete guide to water mechanics, Veilwater Basin and the Greatsword

The Enshrouded devs have already surprised players this year with two major updates, but Wake of the Water raises the bar again. Update 7 brings a host of exciting additions you can sink hours into. Water takes centre stage and everything that comes with it. From a new biome and water mechanics to fishing, it’s all here. There are also extensive changes to the combat system, including the Greatsword and a general rebalance. The patch notes hold even more, so we’re taking a closer look at the update for you.

Enshrouded Update 7 water mechanics and building

Right from the start, the new water is the star of the show and the update’s namesake. It unlocks several new possibilities that make Enshrouded notably deeper. Water is not only properly simulated, but can be used for swimming and diving. You can also control it yourself and use it in your base.

The ability to swim is available to every player from the very beginning. That lets you discover many new places in both old and new areas, so it’s well worth revisiting them. You can’t fight underwater, but you can move nimbly or dive for treasure. There’s even a new item, the Sieve, which lets you search the ground for rare resources. From pearls to gold, you’ll find real riches.

The building system has also been expanded with water. You can control it with a water pump or a spring and create your own rivers, aqueducts or even pools. Mechanics like dams and waterwheels have been added and are functional. Underwater bases are also possible thanks to new barriers.

Fishing in Enshrouded Update 7 tips and rewards

Lakes, rivers and ponds also mean more fauna has moved into Embervale’s regions. Not just in the new biome, but everywhere you’ll find new watering holes that invite diving and fishing.

Craft your first fishing rod and pick a good spot. The minigame is easy to grasp and a fun pastime. Bait can increase your chances. A new survivor can help you improve your fishing skills and unlock new fishing gear. Your catches are especially useful for the new recipes that have been added.

Veilwater Basin new biome in Enshrouded Update 7

The biggest part of the update is the new region, which spans large parts of the map. The Veilwater Basin is a high-level area you’ll likely only enter towards the end of the current game. Most enemies are above level 35, but once you’re ready, relevant quests will lead you into the new section of the map.

Veilwater Basin has a more tropical theme. There’s dense vegetation and lots of water everywhere. There’s something new around every corner, and it will take you several hours to explore all the new locations. The thick jungle is perfect for expeditions and hidden treasure. Many of the new features primarily focus on this biome.

Temples ruins dungeons and Drak enemies in Veilwater Basin

Particularly exciting are the new temples, ruins and dungeons waiting behind trees or in the shallows of the seas. In true Indiana Jones style you’ll encounter puzzles, traps and, above all, enemies. A new enemy type has been added, the Drak. These reptilians can attack you on land and in the water. Be careful, as you yourself cannot attack while in water.

A new region always brings new materials, and Veilwater Basin is perfect for that. You can gather many new things to decorate your base. There are also numerous pieces of furniture and decorations, as well as many new plants to make your base look better. You’ll also find new animals, including adorable capybaras.

Greatsword and combat system changes in Update 7

Greatsword two-handed weapon and combat in Enshrouded Update 7

As promised, the combat system has been reworked. The highlight is the new weapon: the Greatsword. It’s a powerful two-handed weapon that’s slow but deals very high damage. Even new players can find Greatswords as early loot.

Alongside the new region and weapon, the level cap has been raised to 45 for characters and 50 for weapons. That offers more flexibility, new skills and better ways to optimise your playstyle. There are also stronger weapons and gear, which are now easier to find thanks to the new loot distribution in chests and on enemies. In addition, all weapons have been revised so their descriptions match their attributes.

There are new skills for almost every situation, but mages benefit in particular. Healing is now significantly better, especially in multiplayer. Added to that are abilities for underwater movement, new resistances and whirlwind attacks.

Quality-of-life improvements and patch notes highlights

Finally, there have been many adjustments to existing systems to make things easier for players. Enshrouded is still in Early Access, but preparations for a full release are underway. Many of these quality-of-life improvements have been highly requested by players.

  • You can label signs and even edit them.
  • The watering can is now a very practical tool for gardening. It shows soil conditions and can limit plant growth.
  • The entire stamina system has been adjusted, with new values for foods and buffs.
  • The durability of all weapons has been increased.
  • Loot from late-game chests has been completely reworked to yield better weapons.
  • You can now customise your key bindings.
  • Graphical improvements, especially to water mechanics and lighting.
