Unlike most survival titles, food in Enshrouded is not directly necessary for your survival. You do not get hungry, so you do not have to worry about filling your stomach. Food in Enshrouded plays a different role: support. It grants powerful status effects that help you in combat and on other adventures. That makes it important, even if it is not vital. The sheer number of buffs also makes Enshrouded’s food selection quite complex, with dozens of ingredients and recipes to choose from. In this guide, we take a closer look at the whole system for you.

You can gather or cook food in many different ways. From simple berries in the forest, to butchering animals, through to complex recipes with multiple ingredients, there are plenty of options. In general, you can eat up to three meals at once, which are then shown in your character menu. With the “Dessert Stomach” skill in the Survival tree, you can even unlock a fourth slot if you want to eat more.

There are also different preparation methods, depending on what you want to eat. We always recommend not eating ingredients raw, but processing them. Most can simply be grilled at the cooking station, while others need to be prepared in the Farmer’s oven or the seafood oven. Not everything can be processed, though. Each meal has two attributes you should pay attention to: its effect and its duration. Both are equally important and need to be balanced.

As usual, you can live on meat in Enshrouded, with plenty of animals dropping it. Whether wolves, goats or chickens, you have a wide selection of hearty meats available. Meat keeps you going for a very long time, with most buffs lasting around 50 minutes.

Enshrouded fish: recipes for underwater breathing and stamina

Fish were added with Update 7 and can be obtained through fishing. A range of fish types and matching recipes came with it. They cover a wide variety of effects and foods, letting you pick the best for your build. Fish is especially good for stamina and for letting you breathe underwater longer while diving.

Enshrouded fruit for rapid regeneration in combat

Enshrouded also offers a wide range of fruit to feast on. They are great for cultivation on your home plot, too. In general, fruit regenerates your health, which can be crucial in combat. Some heal you slowly but for a long time. Others provide a quick boost but are used up within seconds.

Enshrouded vegetables: buffs for rangers and assassins

If you play as an archer or with daggers, you should definitely eat vegetables. They increase your ranged damage and dagger damage, making them perfect for anyone playing as an assassin. Vegetables are also ideal for your farm and can be grown sustainably.

Enshrouded herbs for strong mana regeneration

As a mage, you should grow herbs, as they are essential for regenerating your mana. Many herbs can be picked and eaten as they are, without processing. That makes them far more flexible than most other foods. Depending on your progress and the biome, the herbs you find last longer and restore more mana. Other herbs can also be used to brew potions.

Enshrouded mushrooms for more magic damage and mana

There are plenty of mushrooms to be found across Embervale, and they are best suited to mages. They do not regenerate your mana, but they increase your damage and raise your maximum mana. Grill the mushrooms you find or process them into other recipes to get the most out of them.

Enshrouded sweets and snacks for short bursts of regeneration

The downside is that their duration is very short, so they are best for a quick, active boost. As in real life, sweets are energy-dense, but not especially filling.
