Enshrouded blends classic role-playing with survival gameplay to create a unique mix. Naturally, that also means plenty of fighting against all manner of monsters waiting for you across Embervale. With different classes and weapons, it can feel overwhelming at first, and every new region brings fresh challenges. That’s why it’s important to internalise the combat fundamentals and take down even the biggest bosses. Enshrouded’s combat system is easy to understand yet offers lots of options and versatility. Here are some of the most important tips to help you battle your way through Embervale!
1. Enshrouded enemies: Identify types and exploit weaknesses

Enshrouded features a wide range of enemies eager to kill you, so it’s vital to recognise them and respond correctly. We recommend observing new or unknown foes first to learn their attack patterns. Use their weak spots to strike back.
You’ll encounter these enemy types in Enshrouded:
- Fallen: Former humans taken by the Shroud.
- Scavengers: Hostile humans up to no good.
- Vukah: Beastfolk known for their strength.
- Hollows: Inhuman undead who have lost their flesh and wander as skeletons.
- Drak: Lizard-like creatures found in the new Veilwater Basin.
- Flora: Certain plants, such as poisonous flowers or mushrooms, are hostile.
- Fauna: Most animals are passive, but some will attack if provoked.
2. Enshrouded combat movement: Keep moving and master dodging

Your agility is one of your greatest strengths, letting you move faster and more efficiently. That matters for every playstyle, because dodging damage is usually better than blocking it. However, rolling, jumping and dodging consume Stamina, so you should invest in these skills. “Double Jump” and “Updraft” are excellent abilities that greatly improve your combat mobility.
Use every trick you have. Run away to lure enemies out, jump over them, or try to hit them from behind for extra damage.
3. Enshrouded weapons: Try different weapon types and attack styles
One of the best aspects of Enshrouded is the variety of weapons you can find. Especially as a new player, we recommend trying them out to see which attack style you prefer. We already have a guide to all weapon types if you want to learn more (Enshrouded Weapons Guide: Weapon Types, Gems, Enchantments) .
Anything goes, from the classic sword-and-shield combo, to bows, to two kinds of magic staves. You can mix and match and swap as you like—you don’t have to commit to a single choice.
4. Enshrouded gear: Match armour and rings to the region
If you haven’t finished Enshrouded up to the current update and reached the max level, you should always match your setup to the region you’re in (Enshrouded Biome Guide: Every Area in Embervale) . Each area offers specific armour sets tuned to the appropriate level.
You can craft or find armour, and you can mix sets to maximise strengths. You’re not hard-locked to classes either, even if some sets suit certain playstyles better. Armour protects you against both physical and elemental damage. You should also adjust your rings whenever you find better versions.
5. Enshrouded gems: Farm gems to fit your combat style

Gems are an upgrade for your weapons if they have an available slot. Generally, you’ll first see them on high-level weapons, though you might get lucky and find an early weapon with a slot. Gem drops are tied to specific regions and enemy types, and they’re not guaranteed. If you’re searching for a particular gem, you’ll need to farm the appropriate enemies.
Gems are a great upgrade once you’ve found a weapon and combat style that suit you. They range from simple damage bonuses to powerful regeneration of HP, Mana and Stamina. As a rule, tougher enemies drop better gems, so you’ll need to take on some risk for good loot.
6. Enshrouded shields: Time your blocks and parries
Shields are an alternative to the dodging from tip number 2. With them you can block and even parry if you negate damage at the right moment. Watch for the enemy weapon to glow to nail the timing. This fills the bar beneath enemies and causes them to stagger.
You can find shields in the world or craft them at the Blacksmith if you have the recipe. Every shield has durability, block value and parry damage. At the Alchemist, you can craft magic shields suited to mages. They share the same stats but often have additional effects.
7. Enshrouded tactics: Split enemy groups to keep control

Our final tip is about the fights themselves: don’t rush in. It’s often safer to fight enemies one by one and avoid being overwhelmed by large groups. You have plenty of room to manoeuvre and don’t have to finish a fight where it starts. Stay mobile and pull back if things get too hot.
Always try to use the environment to your advantage—one of Enshrouded’s best features. You can even avoid fights entirely if you move quietly. Against large packs it’s wise to pick off enemies individually or control them with big area-of-effect attacks.
Conclusion: Find your Enshrouded combat style and master the fights
Thanks to its wide range of weapons and skills, Enshrouded offers deep, flexible combat. You don’t have to commit to a single path—combine different abilities to your advantage. Pay special attention to your agility and Stamina, and try to isolate enemies rather than brawling with the crowd.
