The world of Embervale isn’t just packed with monsters, but also with friendly fauna waiting to be tamed. Raising animals is an engaging part of Enshrouded that many players overlook. Not only are animals adorable, they also provide essential resources for cooking recipes and other activities. Sooner or later you should get to grips with the different species and decide which ones to keep. A stable is a brilliant way to expand and enliven your base. We’ll look at which animals you can find, how to tame them, and how to breed them later on.
Unlock animal taming in Enshrouded: Farmer quests and bait

You may have already spotted a few animals on your travels, but you can only tame them once you have the right bait. You unlock this bait after completing various quests with the Farmer. Rescue her from the Ancient Vault and she’ll open up new ways to interact with Embervale’s flora and fauna.
The specific questline for animal taming starts with finding a goat. There you’ll gradually learn how to care for animals and later unlock other kinds of bait to tame new species.
Enshrouded animal taming step by step

Taming animals isn’t difficult, but it does require a little patience. Different species are scattered across the map, so you’ll need to search for them.
- Select the right bait from the Farmer’s crafting menu and craft it with the required ingredients. You’ll need to harvest some of these yourself. See our guide to crops: (Enshrouded farming guide: growing crops, soils & Update 7) .
- Find your desired animal and equip the bait. Crouch and throw the bait towards the animal.
- When the animal is distracted, sneak up to it. Watch for the ? icon. If it appears, stop and wait until it disappears.
- Pet the animal to fill its hearts. Some animals have more hearts than others.
- Repeat until all hearts are filled.
- Then store the animal in your inventory to take it home to your stable.
Enshrouded animals: locations, produce, and drops

You’re probably wondering which animals are out there. In Enshrouded you’ll find both familiar and fantastical creatures to tame and harvest produce from. Some items come directly from tamed animals, others only by hunting them for meat, pelts, and bones.
Most produce (meat, milk, eggs) can be used for cooking recipes to gain temporary buffs. Bones are useful for furniture and for crafting bonemeal. You’ll need leather for armour and feathers for arrows. The new capybara bristles are handy for fishing (Enshrouded Fishing Guide: Bait, Rods, Fish & Locations) and also for armour.

Build a stable in Enshrouded: happiness, food, and protection

Once you’ve successfully caught animals, you’ll need to build them a home. Don’t leave them in your base without proper infrastructure, or they won’t produce and can’t breed. Animals need three essentials to be content. You can see their needs when a speech bubble with red icons appears.
Shelter with a roof: Don’t leave your animals out in the open. Give them a retreat with a sturdy roof to protect them from the elements. They don’t need to stay indoors all the time, but they should have the option to take shelter.
Bed: The bed must be under a roof and serves as that retreat. Each animal needs its own basket, which you can craft with the Farmer from twigs, fibres, straw, and wood. There are small and large cushions for different animal sizes.
Food: Equally important is feed. Each species has its own feeding bowl, which you must craft from wood, nails, and scrap metal. Each animal also has its own feed, similar to the bait, which you can craft with the Farmer. Make sure the feeding bowls are always filled.
We also recommend fencing your animals in and protecting them from monsters. Some aggressive enemies will attack animals, which you’ll want to prevent.
Breeding animals in Enshrouded and farming produce

You can also breed the animals you’ve tamed. This is handy, as you won’t need to keep crafting bait, and you can cull some older animals for their resources. All animals, apart from pets, breed automatically when all conditions are met.
- Needs such as roof, bed, and feed must be fulfilled.
- At least one free bed for a new animal.
- A bit of time and patience.
New baby animals will appear on their own; you don’t need to do anything else. The more free beds you have, the more animals will be produced. Baby animals remain small until you manually mature them by approaching and pressing E. If you keep them as babies, they’re very cute but won’t produce any items.
Conclusion: animal breeding, stable building, and buffs in Enshrouded

Whether for tasty recipes, stronger armour, fishing, or furnishings: some resources make life in Embervale much easier. Build stables for your animals and take good care of them so they breed.
