Palworld offers a vast world to explore, and you’ll run into new Pals everywhere. They’re not exactly friendly, and you’ll have to prove yourself in battle before you can capture them. Unlike other monster games, fights are in real time—there are no turns. You, the player, can also play a decisive role! On top of that, your Pals have many more stats and attributes you can leverage. Today, we’re taking a fresh look at Palworld’s combat system and showing you how to come out on top!

Palworld stats and attributes: How to make your Pals strong

Palworld stats and attributes for your Pals at a glance

Every Pal comes with specific attributes. Some are always fixed, while others are variable. This helps you build a team of five Pals that covers strengths and weaknesses. You can choose from over 150 Pals to assemble your perfect squad. You can also breed Pals to tailor their stats to your needs and create even stronger partners.

  • Level: Indicates overall power and influences several other stats and abilities.

  • Type: Each Pal can have one or two types. These elemental types determine attacks and interact differently with other types.

  • Partner Skill: These skills vary widely but are fixed for each Pal. Some support you in combat, others are passive or more useful for base building and activities outside of combat. They’re only active when the Pal is in your party. Always check a Pal’s Partner Skill!

  • Active Skills: These are the attacks your Pals use. You can have three selected at a time and learn new ones as your Pal levels up. They have power, a cooldown, and possible special effects. They’re also tied to a type. Pals use attacks automatically, but you can command them to trigger specific moves.

  • Passive Skills: Passives are always active and constantly affect your Pals. They’re usually positive, but can be negative. Some passives are fixed for certain Pals, and others can appear randomly or be bred.

  • Stats: Your Pal also has various combat stats, such as HP, Attack, and Defense. There are also hidden values, including movement speed and bonuses when your Pal trusts you. Stats can be influenced by items, passive skills, and breeding.

Type combinations are among the most important factors when choosing the right Pals. You should know their strengths and weaknesses so you don’t walk into a fight unprepared. You can now view these by selecting the type in the Pal menu. It’s worth learning these type advantages! In general, there are two loops of type interactions.

First loop:

  • Water: Weak to Electric / Strong against Fire

  • Fire: Weak to Water / Strong against Grass

  • Grass: Weak to Fire / Strong against Ground

  • Ground: Weak to Grass / Strong against Electric

  • Electric: Weak to Ground / Strong against Water

Second loop:

  • Ice: Weak to Fire / Strong against Dragon

  • Dragon: Weak to Ice / Strong against Dark

  • Dark: Weak to Dragon / Strong against Neutral

  • Neutral: Weak to Dark (has no strengths)

Palworld weapons and player attacks: melee, ranged, shields

Palworld weapons and player attacks in action

In Palworld, you’re not limited to your Pals—you can fight yourself. You can be attacked, defend yourself, and enter battle alongside your Pals. You’ll find a range of weapons or unlock them through Technologies. Weapons have a fixed attack value that varies by rarity and is combined with your own Attack stat. They also have durability.

You have a wide selection of weapons for fighting Pals. There are swords, axes, and spears for melee, as well as bows and crossbows. You can also bring out the big guns and fight with pistols, machine guns, or grenades. Palworld isn’t picky about your weapon of choice! Many weapons allow combos or special attacks. You can even use Pals directly as attacks, either as support from your shoulder/head or as ammo for certain weapons. Experiment to find what you like best!

Lastly, we recommend investing in shields. You unlock them in the Technologies, and they appear as a blue bar at the lower left of your health. It depletes in combat, recharges after a short time, and protects you from incoming damage. As you progress, you’ll unlock stronger shield variants.

Palworld combat tips: Tactics for Alpha Pals and raids

Palworld combat tips for Alpha Pals and raids

You’ve got the basics down, but here are a few final pointers—especially useful for Alpha Pals and raid bosses so you don’t end up on the losing side. Palworld battles can get chaotic, but you can always keep control!

  • Use your dodge roll to avoid damage. Learn your opponent’s patterns and roll at the right moment.

  • Pals make great distractions so wild Pals don’t focus you immediately. In most cases, Pals prioritize other Pals and ignore you.

  • Because fights happen in real time and not in a separate arena, you can use the terrain to your advantage. Strike from stealth or from above to surprise your foes!

  • Pull wild Pals together and let them fight each other to save yourself some stress.

  • Swap Pals regularly during fights to keep things dynamic and safe. This also helps prevent your Pals from going down.

  • Leverage status effects to weaken wild Pals. There are many effects, including Burn, Poison, Blind, and Stun.

Conclusion: Master dynamic real-time combat in Palworld

Fights in Palworld are exciting and dynamic because they happen right in the overworld and you charge in alongside your Pals. You can capitalize on your Pals’ strengths while also attacking with the weapon of your choice. This loosens up the classic RPG formula and creates varied, engaging gameplay!
